For the times when you are not gazing at the water, palms, and sand, or listening to the waves, there is a wide-screen television and DVD player. A selection of popular DVDs is provided, or you can bring your own favorites, or rent them in the village. Bring your laptops and stay in touch with High-Speed Wireless Internet. There is a telephone in the villa for free long distance to the USA and Canada, and a cell phone to use for local services and to take on your outings.
You can walk along the beach to the kid-friendly marina village, where you will find shops, services, and many fine, but reasonably priced restaurants. The restaurant at the five-star Omni Hotel is a two-minute walk along the beach. Swim with the dolphins in the marina (or watch the action while sipping a margarita at one of the outdoor cafes). Check out the dive and snorkel shops -- arrange a lesson if you wish. You will also enjoy the art and gift shops. You can play at the Puerto Aventuras golf course, and the kids will love the skate board park.
Major attractions of the Riviera Maya are 15 minutes away by car or taxi, including Xel-Ha (pronounced shell-HAH), where the underground rivers flow into the sea, the splendors of the cenote caves of Aktun Chen, and Xcaret. Xcaret (pronounced sh-ka-RET) is a huge eco-park that is as much fun as Disneyland or any major theme park, but it is also far more interesting and educational. It truly lives up to its reputation of being the premier attraction in the entire coastal area in the state of Quintana Roo. It is a delight for all ages!
Visit Mayan pyramids and archeological sites of major significance. Tulum is only 30 minutes away, and tours are available for nearby Chichen-Itza, Coba, and other sites in the Yucatan.
