The much loved and well appointed Lalamilo Beach House is ideally located on the north end of Waialea Bay (Beach 69) which is known for it's beautiful white sand beach and turquoise blue water.
Three bedrooms in the main house each have their own private bathroom and you can see the ocean and beach directly in front of you. It is the most ideal location!
The plantation-style, main house was designed for beach goers of all ages. It features an expansive great room, a fully-equipped kitchen with large central island and counter seating, a dining table with seating for up to 12 guests, a card/game table and a large hikiei for lounging in the traditional Hawaiian style. There is also a generous sun deck with an outdoor dining area and ample seating for sunbathers and stargazers alike. The long, shaded lanai leads to the home's three bedroom suites, each boasting stunning mauka and makai views as well as the sounds of the sea.
The separate, second story Ohana/Guest house has all the amenities of a second home. It offers its own lanai, full kitchen, living room and master suite, as well as mauka views of the world famous volcanoes - Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa. The Ohana Guest House sleeps 2 adults and 2 kids comfortably.

Nearly one half acre of beautiful, mature, tropical landscaping. The plumerias are so plentiful, in fact, that guests can string together their own leis daily. The large, green lawn leads directly onto the beach and provides the perfect spot to play badminton, volleyball, store beach toys, or host a small gathering. There is also a hot water, outdoor shower that makes coming in from a long swim or snorkel truly pleasurable.
Catering, housekeeping and massage services can be made available throughout your stay for an additional charge.

Our family of 12, ranging in ages from 4 - 79, resident in Seattle, Los Angeles, and Sweden, after spending a full week at Lalamilo House, came home with a lifetime of wonderful memories. Snorkeling, swimming with porpoises and sea turtles, kayaking, boogie boarding, body surfing and beach-walking, offered something for everyone and delighted each of us during the day. Evenings were spent playing an array of games that we found in this wonderful house. We never ate a meal in a restaurant, as the wonderfully equipped kitchen and beautiful dining area suited us perfectly, with different family members sharing the cooking of meals, others cleaning up. It was a great family vacation together. We loved buying local seasonal foods at the farmer's open-air markets, and fish from a nearby fish market. Arriving our first night late in the evening, Maria had given us good directions for a quick shop stop between the airport and the house--thank you for answering all our questions, making our arrival as easy as possible. We went to the Hilo side to take an amazing 4-hour lava flow walk on the Kiluea system. The youngest ones in our family were not permitted on this walk, so they went to Volcano National Park and were just as pleased with their experience. Our Swedish grandchildren have decided they will live in Hawaii when they are adults! Thank you, thank you from all of us!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

What else can you say about such a place other than; it was just right. Secluded home with trees and plants all around, which attract the singing birdies. The trees push past the property to the beach, where you’ll find both shade and sun, along with lots of families in a very serene coastal environment. The layout of the house was conducive to hanging out in the main area or quietly retiring to one of the four separated bedrooms (one of those bedrooms being its own condo in the back). The kitchen was spacious and equipped enough to handle dinner for twelve. With the lanai beds inside and Adirondack chairs on the deck, there was always some place to plop down and decompress from all the heavy duty beach time. Waialea Bay gives good harbor for all kinds water activities; snorkeling, kayaking, paddle boarding, floating, swimming, boogie boarding. Hapuna Beach is just to the north, for that and more, with good surfing and body surfing in the winter. The property manager, Leilani, was both responsive and helpful, and couldn’t have been sweeter. Our family very much enjoyed our time here on our favorite island. Just right.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

Absolutely amazing house on our favorite beach on the island. The house was well equipped with all the supplies that we needed. Our families had a wonderful time at the house and the beach and no one wanted to leave. We all enjoyed beautiful sunsets, sunrises and clear blue water. Snorkeling, boogie boarding, sunbathing, jumping off lava rocks, and just spending time together. Its the perfect vacation home and we can't wait to come back!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

Dear Aloha Debbie, We loved every thing about Lalamilo Beach House. I have to say the house was more then we expected. It couldn't have been more perfect for four couples. We found the house clean and the kitchen had everything we needed. The bedrooms were so cute and everyone having there own bathrooms was a plus. We loved the openness of the great room and it was perfect for a large group. The deck was also a wonderful place to catch some sun when we weren't on the beach. We all danced out there one night. We loved being so close to the beach. Memories of early morning coffee on the beach and watching the sun set at night will keep us going this winter. We felt the staff was very attentive and took care of issues in a timely fashion. We defiantly would love to rent this property again, it truly was paradise. We loved being able to snorkel right off our own beach, walk out in the water in the sand and not worry about rocks but at the same time having beautiful rock formations on either side of us. We loved the walking path parallel to the beach. We took walks every morning and loved walking to the Puako store. Thanks for a wonderful time.Did you find this review helpful? Owner info
Year Purchased: 1993
About the owner: This amazing vacation home is owned and loved by five siblings and their families and managed by Leilani Shackelford (RA), a licensed real estate agent with AlohaDebbie Properties (R)
Why the Owner Chose Puako:
This vacation home was built in 1993 by five siblings on land that was acquired by their grandparents back in the 1930's. The house sits on one of the few natural sand beaches on the Big Island and is one of the best swimming and snorkeling in the world!
It is conveniently located for visiting all the resort hotels and restaurants on the Kohala Coast. The Mauna Kea, the Fairmont Orchid, the Mauna Lani and Hilton Hotels are just minutes away with their beaches, first class restaurants, shops and world class golf courses. Kohala Divers is nearby at Kawaihae Center, and offers various ocean activities including scuba diving and sunset/afternoon sails. Kawaihae Center and Harbor are just 10 minutes by car, with several great restaurants and shops. You are close to almost any activity you may choose, with the exception of the volcano which is a 3 hour drive from Kohala.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
The house is extremely well located and well equipped. All bedrooms offer their own ocean and mauka views, private baths and are accessed from a private lanai overlooking a large grass lawn that leads to the beach.
The sun shines 355 days per year and the average temperature highs are in the 80's with low's in the 60's. The ocean's edge is about 150 feet from your doorstep with crystal blue water that is 72-76 degrees year round.
Waialea Bay offers ideal fishing, snorkeling, diving, surfing and kayaking. Walking and biking is a favorite, too! Sea turtles, dolphins and whales are some of the sea life you may see. This property offers beach style living and a real sense of getting away from it all.
The turquoise waters are extremely clear, so divers and snorkelers can enjoy waters abundant in sea life. The Waialea Bay Marine Preserve is a protected environment for endangered sea life. Green sea turtles are a protected species and should not be bothered, only enjoyed and admired. Watch the humpback whales play along the coast during the winter. It is quite a sight!
