After spending a considerable amount of time in the various vacation rentals scattered about Mammoth Lakes (Snowcreek, Canyon Lodge, etc) we have finally struck paydirt. This lovely home is, without-a-doubt, the finest Mammoth residence available for rental today. It is comfortably modern with a hint of rusticity, tastefully decorated, and exceedingly private. The thoughtful layout and design details, as well as the fantastic condition of the property, suggest that the owners truly love the home. Its easy to see why its a popular rental. Although it is located in pleasantly-wooded Old Mammoth, its veranda has a nice view of the Sherwin Range to the south and a spectacular view of the Great Basin to the east. The home and its setting is exceedingly peaceful and quiet. Even the first, big snowstorm of the year, which blew in while we were staying here, failed to prove too much of a distraction. The fact that the place is so close to everything that the town has to offer makes this property even more appealing. We were also impressed by the amenities and features provided for our enjoyment. The great room invited the most attention. It has a fantastic media center and lovely fire place in addition to its aesthetically appealing vaulted ceiling and overall openness. Indeed, we spent most of our time off-the-slopes enjoying this room. Although the place has an open-floor-plan and lacks a compartmentalized layout, each of the bedrooms seemed to be pleasantly removed from the rest of the house - islands unto themselves as it were. The kitchen, located just off the great room, was indeed as well-stocked and equipped as the owner's description suggests. In short, there are few properties in Mammoth that truly exceed expectations and this is one of those properties. One cannot help but feel to have truly escaped the cares and worries of city life when they come to a place like this - a home that truly feels like Mammoth.

I have rented this property on 3 different occassions and am eager to return. The 3 private bedrooms and loft was enough to sleep 8 comfortably, while the cathedral ceilings, open floorplan, and mountain views makes you feel like the house is much larger than it is. The high-end appliances, furniture, dishes, etc were nice enough for us to host a small dinner party -including business clients-. I also love the location in Old Mammoth bc of the natural light and close proximity to stores, skiing, movies, and fitness center (5 minute walk to Snowcreek Athletic Club). The running trails are about 3 blocks away and offer some of the best views in the Sierras. The owners Jeanne and Darren are the sweetest and most accommodating people on earth. We rented the house for Christmas last year, and Jeanne provided us with her personal decorations to make the home feel like our own. Also, on a few different occassions, we had to change reservations at the last minute, and Jeanne and Darren were always willing to credit unused nights for another time as long as the house was available. I love this house and am eager to return next month!!!

What a great escape! This was our second time we stayed, and it was as great as the 1st. 3 neighbors celebrate 3 birthdays every July in middle of the month, with each year changing locations. This is the most hassle free and relaxing place we have been too. We all take turns fixing great dinners and having friends over to party until late and then sleep over. When we party, it all starts in the kitchen and with this kitchen we have room for all the cooks and those who just have to get in and sample with out waiting. All we bring, is food and the mountain appetite. The next morning there is nothing better then to sit out on the deck, looking south to the mountains through the pines, sipping fresh black coffee, with a bagel, and the fresh wake up scent of the mountain air. This is a great place to stay if you want to have the best of hiking, lakes, partying, laying around and enjoying the quiet moments as well. All needs are met, we just show up, move in and enjoy. We recommend this place to our friends. Being from the San Diego area (we like it warm), we have not been up to visit during the winter, but it must be beautiful to sit in front of the huge fireplace keeping warm and looking out on the snow covered trees and mountain tops. We will return!

Please be aware that if you rent this house, the owners are living in the downstairs of the house!!!!See in the picture of home, you are only renting the(TOP) part of this house, the space below the deck is a "quote"apartment the owner will be staying in.The reason I am so strongly telling any renter this is because(NOWHERE)in this description does it say the owner lives in the home.Imagine driving 7 hours to get to your amazing, private getaway and have the owner show you the house and then tell you"We will be downstairs in our apartment"You could only imagine the SHOCK we felt hearing of this.We would have NEVER rented this house if we knew this, paying absolute top dollar for this misleading listing. So if you want to take your PRIVATE vacation and hear people talking, coughing, etc with large dog poops around the property(The owners are husband, wife, and two 80+ pound dogs)this is your place,We felt like we were (WALKING ON EGGSHELLS) for 3 days. This was nothing short of appalling!!!!!
Owner response:It is with great regret that we were informed of the James' party dissatisfaction with their stay. We strive to make every visitor's stay pleasant, memorable, and problem-free. Had they communicated their concerns during their stay, rather than afterward, we would have taken necessary action to rectify any perceived problems and inconveniences. However, they failed to do so, and we were therefore unable to fix their problem because we did not know a problem existed. Furthermore, we are saddened to hear that they did not enjoy our lovely home and its many amenities due to what they perceived as a rift of miscommunication between us. We would like to assure our guests that we respect their privacy, but we are happy to help them with anything they need. Additionally, for the reference of future guests, we are working professionals whose occupations carry us away from home for days at a time. Therefore, we want our guests to feel free to use our home as if it were their own whether we are on property or not. Once again, we apologize. Thank you for your business.

My wife and I have been lucky enough to spent our past two wedding anniversaries in this home. The owners of the home are great people and they love dogs and so easy to work with. The house is perfect for a quiet vacation for two or bring the whole family. Close to town and the view is one of the best. They have the kitchen stocked with every pot and pan you could think of and it is not the cheep stuff you normally find in a rental. They go out of there way to make sure you are comfortable and happy. We are looking forward to our next visit but next time we want to stay much longer.

Wonderful architecture, beautiful and comfortable furnishings, immaculately clean with a well stocked, cook's kitchen--this home is absolutely fantastic. The neighborhood is very quiet and serene and the owners are very helpful. This gorgeous home is conveniently located to all that Mammoth has to offer--restaurants, skiing, snowmobiling and shopping--everything is literally just minutes away. The heated floors and roaring fireplace keep the home nice and toasty. Out of all the places we've stayed at on VRBO, this place is by far the best! In fact, my husband and I liked it so much, we reserved another stay here within 24 hours of returning home. Thank you for sharing your home with us. We look forward to our next visit.

Wonderful house, lovely big kitchen, great views, easy to work with owners. We are 2 professional couples from NJ/NY and used house as base for 2 Yosemite trips and local hikes, bike rides. Gorgeous surroundings, quiet setting, delightful town. Owners were very helpful. House was very comfortable, kitchen very roomy and came stocked with coffee, sugar, paper goods, basic supplies and all kinds of cookware/servingware. Bathrooms also stocked with amenities, very nice touch. Thanks, we're recommending to other friends and plan on returning ourselves!

We were looking for a well-located home in Old Mammoth and came across this absolutely beautiful home at a very reasonable price. The owners were very friendly and had the home in a 5-star condition when we arrived. Our family of 5 (3 college age kids) stayed five days and had a wonderful time. I'd highly recommend this home to anyone looking for "world class" accomodations in an upscale home. Brad G.

We had a group of five of us that are all professionals and long time friends stay here for an annual fishing and golf trip. This house was fantastic! It's a beautiful custom home with a lot of space, beautiful views and nice amenities. The kitchen, bar, bedrooms and bathrooms had everything we needed (glasses, cookware, utensils, towels, linens, etc). We enjoyed the outdoor deck for BBQing and relaxing and the jacuzzi was nice as well.
