Whether you are a writer looking for solitude and inspiration, film makers in the depth of a hairy edit, a yogi in search of a special retreat destination, or a couple, family or individuals looking for a unique relaxing time away from home, our little piece of paradise is for you! We are located only 40 minutes south of Mammoth Mountain, a spectacular mountain range which from Thanksgiving through July 4th is home to some of the best skiing or snowboarding in the country. July through October enjoy all things outdoors that don't involve snow gear- boating, fishing, hiking, mountain biking, "hot spring-ing" to name a few.
Ten minutes north of Bishop, in the famous Owen's Valley, our log home and separate log studio are set on five acres of naturally landscaped high desert terrain. The main house and its guest house were built 26 years ago by an adoring husband for his wife. He planted fruit trees and cypress, tapping into and directing a constantly flowing natural spring on the property for irrigation and house use - you have never tasted water as sweet as this. The couple lived on the property until two years ago, when age and circumstance forced them to sell.
The house and detached guest house sit high on the edge of the foothills of the White Mountain Range. The property has about 40 mature fruit trees and is edged with huge pine. Quiet and private, often the only sounds you hear are songs from the visiting finches and whinnies from the horse property down the road.
Bishop is famous for its seasons. In spring the cherry and apricot blossom aroma fill the air. The property backs BLM land which means the miles of paths into and through the White Mountains become your back yard. An easy hike to an abandoned gold mine is a great post-lunch outing. Every kid's dream.
Summer brings a slow desert heat with cool nights. Take a float down the Owen's River in an inner tube or enjoy the area's abundant fishing opportunities. Discover the High Sierras by driving just 20 minutes to magnificent swimming spots, fishing, or spectacular hiking to glacial lakes. Mind-blowing!
With autumn the leaves turn and fall, often you will wake to a layer of ice on the bird bath. Take residence, cozied up in a blanket, on one of the outdoor teak lounges overlooking the valley and sip your morning coffee while watching the birds at the feeder.
Winter brings the spectacular snowy Sierra views to bake pies by or just lose yourself in. Magically, it can be snowing and stormy in Mammoth but sunny and gorgeous at our place, perfect for the non-skiers/boarders to lunch outside in the Grotto area. Late afternoon sit by the fire with a puzzle or just stare off into the distance at the sun disappearing behind the snowcapped peaks.
A scenic four hour drive from either LA or Reno. Once here, walk into the house and take in the woodsy log cabin aroma. Flop down on the cozy sofa and breath out. We made a choice to have no TV (we do have high speed internet though), but good music and a game of scrabble or a puzzle does wonders for the soul.
This is a special place for a special kind of person. Contact us and we can tell you so much more.
