Seabrook Island is a private gated community located 23 miles from historic Charleston, SC. With ancient live oaks, towering palms, and abundant wildlife, the island is a beautiful retreat for vacationing. The lack of commercial development and hotels keeps the island quiet and pristine. Still, there is plenty to do. The beach is wide, clean, and three miles long. Dolphin play in the waters just off-shore. Deer are plentiful on the island and are frequently spotted while walking or driving around.
The Seabrook Island Club recently completed a full renovation of its facilities to feature a beautiful beach club with two swimming pools and an oceanside bar and restaurant (seasonally, as it is outdoors). The golf club is located within the Island House, a beautifully appointed facility across the street from the beach club with many terraced seating areas, a lounge, restaurant, and meeting space. There are also tennis and equestrian facilties. During the summer numerous organized activities are offered, and live entertainment occurs several nights of the week. AMENITY CARDS FOR ACCESS TO THE CLUB ARE PROVIDED AT NO ADDITIONAL COST.
Just off the island you will find numerous restaurants ranging from pizza and burgers to fine dining. At Freshfields Village, located just outside the Seabrook Island gate, is a full-service grocery store, many specialty shops, Starbucks, beach/surf shops, and a pharmacy. Also nearby are wonderful produce stands with locally grown vegetables and freshly caught seafood, Bohicket Marina with boat rentals and tours, restaurants and additional shops.
No trip to Seabrook would be complete without a day of sight-seeing in Charleston. This historic city boasts beautiful antebellum homes, wonderful dining, numerous sightseeing tours, antique shops, and golf courses. We have assembled a guidebook with information about area attractions, including driving directions. You might wish to peruse the book while relaxing on the porch with a refreshing drink!

My wife and I along with our children and their families thoroughly enjoyed our stay at your Villa and Seabrook Island. Your home is lovely and it served our needs quite well and was in a great location on the island. I have to add that Seabrook is all you said it would be and indeed one of the most beautiful places we've vacationed. Two years ago we spent the same type vacation at Harbor Island with our family, but have to say that this vacation when it comes to scenery of the island to the wildlife and the beaches along with other amenities was far better. Seabrook Island Rd. is one of the prettiest roads in South Carolina if not the prettiest and the Seabrook Island Club pools and beach area along with the Pelican's Nest restaurant couldn't be beat and were an easy trip by car or bike from your villa. The hamburger at The Pelican's Nest is the best I think I've ever eaten.....and I've eaten quite a few over the years. I thank you so much for sharing your home with us for what was a truly nice vacation for our family. I also appreciate the extra info. concerning the island you made available along with the bicycles provided for your guests and want you to know that we will definitely keep your home in mind for any future trips to Seabrook Island.Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, families with young children, families with teenagers.

Our family had a fantastic vacation in this Summerwind cottage! We have stayed in other Summerwind units in the past, but this was by far the nicest! The remodeling and upgrades were awesome. The screened-in porch was a fabulous extension of the outdoors. The cottage was very clean, comfortable and completely bug-free! We made some wonderful memories here for a perfect end to our summer!Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, families with young children, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

This was our first time visiting Seabrook Island and we absolutely loved it! The accomodations were just as described, very well equipped, clean and we would highly recommend it. My only suggestion would be that it would be nice if there was a basket available for one of the bikes to keep keys, maps and affinity card readily accessible. So as you can see, not really much to complain about! Thanks for sharing your home.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, families with young children, romantic getaway, families with teenagers.
Owner response: Thank you for staying at our home during your getaway. We love to hear back from our guests so we know what things would make the stay more enjoyable for them. Your comment about the bicycle basket made me realize that I should add information to the Welcome Packet so guests can easily locate them; we keep them in the enclosed area adjacent to the bikes in hopes of making them last longer! I regret that you did not know where to look for them. Thanks for the review!

Tranquil – Comfortable - Convenient: We wished we had time to stay at this Seabrook Villa at least one week. Regrettably, our stay was limited to a quick weekend getaway and we did not want to leave. Everything exceeded our expectations! The house is equipped with everything that guests could possibly need or want a fully equipped kitchen, lovely dining area and living room, and patio with tranquil surroundings. Our "girls" travel group of educators were so pleased with the Villa lay out and all the amenities available. With the Charleston area accessible by a short drive away, we were able to visit historical sites and, of course, shopping in Charleston and within the immediate area. It was so great to be able to return to tranquility, comfort and a well-appointed "home away from home" of the Summerwind Villa. The Villa with ample living space for the five of us met all our needs and expectations. Plus, the view island is spectacular! We highly recommend these accommodations to anyone who would like the comfortable environment of a home away from home. We thoroughly enjoyed our week at your Summerwind cottage. The weather was absolutely beautiful. The home contained so many extras from the outside shower, bikes, extra sheets, to a place where we can put away all our groceries! I can't tell you how mnay places we have stayed where there was no place to put the groceries away. You have a beautiful place and we'll be back!Did you find this review helpful? Our family visited last summer and had an amazing trip. The home excceeded our expectations! The house was soooo kid friendly-equipped with a wagon, beach toys, outdoor shower, board games and a porch. It was big enough for our family of five and a set of inlaws who stayed on their own "side" of the house. The island is spectacular! It is very family oriented-pools, beach, beautiful beaches and restaurants. I highly recommend it!!!!Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with young children, romantic getaway.

My family and I vacationed at this home in late September. We had a wonderful visit! The property was well maintained and very comfortably furnished. We found it to be just as nice as the photos and description represent it to be. The owners were friendly and easy to work with. They even helped us work out the details so we could enjoy a bonfire on the beach one evening! The new kitchen space is lovely and very well stocked. The bathrooms were nice (especially the master shower) and there was plenty of sleeping space for us all. We had great weather while we were there, and spent lots of time enjoying the large screened porch. Having bicycles available for us to use was such a nice ammenity! We rode them almost every day. The beach club and pool area is wonderful as well. The staff was friendly, the food was good and the scenery was breathtaking. I just love Seabrooke Island and all it has to offer! We will definitely vacation at this home again.Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with young children, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.
Owner response: We are always interested to hear about the stays of our guests; it is especially gratifying when guests share their memories of the wonderful time they had at the house and on the island. Thank you!

this villa on Sea Brook Island was clean and decorated adorable, remolded kitchen, we had a great new shower in the master bath. TV in each bedroom. We had bikes to enjoy and great chairs and toys for the beach. This was one of the best vacations I have had!!! I cannot wait to rent this villa next year!!!!!! I recommend renting this place to anyone looking for a nice place to go, the Edmistons were very helpful with our touring plans in Charleston.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, girls getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2006
About the owner: While we call Charlotte, NC home, we are truly a beach-loving family who enjoys the beach year-round. Our children were nine and eleven years old when we found our Seabrook Island home. The memories we've made during our many long weekend and week-long visits to the island are priceless. We hope you enjoy the island and its surrounding community as much as we do!
Why the Owner Chose Summerwind Cottages:
For years we vacationed at beaches, enjoying rentals in many locations along the east coast. We casually looked for a place to call our own, but didn't find an area that we loved enough to want to visit over and over again. That changed with our first visit to Seabrook. So many things about the island appealed to us: the lack of commercial development, the abundance of nature, the cleanliness of the beaches, the obvious pride of ownership from those living on the island, and the club facilities. We can do as little or as much as we wish during our stays at Seabrook. We love it so much, we plan to retire on Seabrook.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Because Seabrook is a private, gated island with little traffic or commercial development, we find it possible to give the children more freedom to bike and enjoy their friends without being with them at all times. We love to go 'deer hunting Seabrook style', which means that we put down the seats in the SUV, leave the back open, and drive slowly along the roads at dusk to see how many deer we can spot. We've also counted bobcats and fox during our drives. We love to start the day with a long walk to the point at North Beach to watch the dophin swim and look for shells. The kids love to walk down to the beach club for a frozen drink or burger. During any week-long stay we enjoy a beach bonfire, watch the sunset, and share hotdogs and s'mores. These are experiences we will always cherish, and they aren't available at just any beach!
