The Kai Lanai is a fully air-conditioned oceanside home on the North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii located just 80 feet from the blue pacific. This is a spacious (1,500+ sf living area) three bedroom, two bath free standing home was recently remodeled (2006) with travertine stone floors throughout. The Kai Lanai features a complete Brand New, large and open, modern kitchen with Maple Cabinetry & Granite Countertops, a breakfast bar, sealed top stove/range, built-in microwave, full-size refrigerator, dishwasher, and all the cooking utensils you need to prepare complete meals.
The living area is light and airy with tropical-style furniture. There is a queen-size sleeper sofa in the living room. The master suite is furnished with tropical furniture and a queen-size, pillow-top bed. The master bath features travertine stone floors & shower/tub. The second bedroom has a queen-size bed and tropical furniture for an airy island feel. The third bedroom has two (2) twin size beds. All bedrooms have individually controlled air conditioning (mini-split) and tropical ceiling fans although they are rarely needed as this home enjoys cool tropical breezes year around. The Kai Lanai offers unparalleled luxury and proximity to the beach for an affordable price.

- Beachfront : This house is located on an oceanfront & beachfront property/compound, however this particular house is located just behind another, also owned by us (Hale Mauka & Hale Makai). The beach in front of the home is usually sandy, however sometimes adverse weather conditions have displaced the sand for several weeks at a time.
- Beach View : The Kai Lani is only 80 feet from the ocean through our property - no streets to cross. One of our other home is located between Kai Lani & Ocean.

- Ocean View : There is partial ocean view from one bedroom, however this home is just 80 feet from the ocean on our direct oceanfront/beachfront compound.

Why the Owner Chose Hauula
Our family has owned and operated this business for two generations now. Originally our goal was to provide accommodations for people visiting family at BYU-Hawaii who wanted a more family-friendly atmosphere. We then realized the need for quality oceanfront vacation rentals at an affordable rate...this is our mission today, to provide quality, yet affordable, oceanfront vacation rentals on the North Shore of Oahu.

Guests who stay with us get more than just a place to sleep at night, they get their own beach house on the North Shore of Oahu. We have 450 linear feet of oceanfront property giving our guests plenty of room to lounge in the sun while being cooled down by the gentle breezes of the South Pacific Ocean. We have operated as Hale Koolau LLC for nearly a decade, however prior to this change of entity we operated the business as sole proprietors, accommodating thousands of guests over the years. This rental was RIGHT on the beach and water! Nice, quiet area with lounge chairs and picnic tables. Beautiful sunrises each morning. This is paradise!
Recommended for:Romantic getaway, sightseeing, girls getaway, age 55+, families with young children, families with teenagers.

We stayed here for a week as a last minute reservation when our other one fell through. The staff I dealt with were all very friendly but the property was less than desirable. The house is about 15 feet from Kam Hwy (very busy road.) There were loud trucks going by all night that sometimes actually shook the house. The house is air conditioned which was nice but the air conditioners were very stinky. The windows don't have any screens on them so you can't even open them to let fresh air in. The house is very dark with few windows to let the beautiful sunshine in. The amenities were OK, there are hot tubs around the property that are shared with other houses but they were all sandy and dirty looking. We didn't try them out. The internet is very slow and was a pain in the behind to get connected to for some reason. There were different beach items available to rent mostly which we did not do. The property was not very clean, at least according to my standards. The floors were very dirty and I had to clean them all so our feet weren't black from the dirt. Plus, in reading their rules, I learned that they charge you for any stained towels, how are you supposed to clean a dirty floor with no mop and no rags?? The tub in the master bath was clogged so bad that we couldn't even use it. The lights and ceiling fans are all on dimmer switches which was nice but the wiring must have been screwed up because one switch turned on two rooms and the light in the twin bedroom would come on for no reason in the middle of the night, not so nice to do to a 3 year old!! The TV in the living room is a joke. It was maybe 19 inches but the top half was all messed up. There is a major termite and ant problem. There were termite droppings everywhere, especially in one of the bedrooms near the head of the bed. We had to move the bed so we weren't sleeping in them. As you can tell, this was not my idea of a perfect Hawaiian vacation...
Owner response:We went out of our way to assist this family who was in distress, even giving them a great deal on a Last-Minute reservation. What we find so out-of-line here are the complaints that were never once brought to our attention during their stay. Our direct website shows the location of our homes on our professionally-drafted Property Map, to give our guests all the information they need before booking with us. We have had MANY families who have stayed with us before and after these guests and they have loved our home, as referenced by the previous reviews we have received here and on our direct website. The A/C units are cleaned after EVERY guest, in addition to the entire home and floors before the next family moves in. Upon check-in, we provide a Cleaning Guarantee that lists every single item and area we have cleaned in the home prior to arrival to ensure guests are completely satisfied. If it is not, we will come in and touch-up anything they feel was neglected. This family was completely satisfied upon check-in with the cleaning and accommodations and never talked to us once about the cleanliness of our home, especially since we are on-site 7 days a week and spoke with them on multiple occasions, especially for problems connecting to our high-speed internet. This is the only family to have difficulties connecting to our internet, and we have many guests who need access to the internet while staying with us for business and personal reasons. We offer mops and buckets, rags, and cleaning supplies (provided in every rental) for guests to clean up should they desire to do so. Again, this was never addressed with us directly. We have checked the master bath tub and also the light switches, and found no problem whatsoever. We employ a full-time maintenance person for such reasons and he could find nothing wrong with the items listed. The television is a standard television; it's not a flat-screen, 50" 3D LED television. Guests who stay with us love to explore the North Shore and all it has to offer, and take advantage of staying so close to these activities away from Waikiki and Honolulu. Our direct beachfront homes give our guests something they could not get staying anywhere else. We ask our guests to contact us or come to our on-site office should they have any questions or need anything. We are on-site every day of the week, so questions or problems may be addressed immediately. Our guests' satisfaction is our number one priority.
