What a beautiful and relaxing place, we loved staying at the Blackberry Cottage! Swimming in the quarry's was fantastic, only thing better was to combine it with the sauna. Watching the sunset from the standing stone circle was our favorite way to end the day, a camp fire was the perfect ending to the night. Joanna and David were perfect hosts...Thank you! We arrived here a couple much in need of respite. We have had the opportunity to gain so much more than that. We leave here today rested and renewed. One of my favorite quotes is, Life is not measured by the number of breaths that we take but by the moments that take our breath away. Thank you for sharing a piece of your heart with us. We enjoyed every second of our stay at BBC and it is most certainly a blessings to enjoy such tranquility at Light Heart Retreat. I am humbled by the surroundings of this breathtaking place. It definitely helped me regroup, rejuvenate and rejoice in the place I have in this world and my capacity. Thank you for all that you both do and continue to create at Light Heart Retreat. We are definitely the lucky ones to have discovered this relaxing retreat and to have met you both! We are departing the Blackberry Cottage with energy and joy. The Retreat was exactly the place; with its majestic granite, still waters and sweet-smelling air, to unwind and forget about the rushing, bustling city. Although we did not get to spend much time with you; we have a sense of the people you are and understand why this Retreat has given us the opportunity to reconnect with nature and find serenity. We look forward to coming back someday soon. A lake is the landscapes most beautiful and expressive feature. It is earth eye, looking into which the beholder measures the depth of this own nature. My husband and I fell in love with this incredibly beautiful, magical spot. If you're looking for a place to restore your sanity away from the stress of the city, in a cool forest by a serene lake, this is your getaway. The hosts are truly lovely people who thought of everything to make our stay wonderful, and they're ready to help if you need it, but never intrusive. The cottage was charming and immaculate, cozy and welcoming. You're close to everything that this part of the country has to offer, yet off the beaten path. Perfect for a romantic getaway, a special trip to share with friends, or a soul-restoring retreat. We'll definitely return.

Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Our stay at BBC, so unbelievable! Never have we seen any cottage so thoughtfully equipped. The views, serenity, so great, beautiful and spectacular!! Where else can you go to in a hop, skip and jump and view the sunset and another hop, ski and jump to watch the moon come up? Our 3 day workshop with Raymon Grace was well worth it. Going home armed with new ways to enhance our live and those around us. You are special hosts and have put new meaning in the words, care & comfort.

We love being here, our home away from home. Love meeting new friends, human and gnome. We saw fairies in the trees, Heard celestial music on the breeze. In the quarry the bullfrogs roared, Ravens screeched and eagles soared. Someday we’ll be back again and we’ll try to avoid the rain!

This is truly a special place. From the freshly baked zucchini bread that greeted us in our cottage to the muscle relaxing warmth of the sauna that was ready for us upon our return from a day of hiking in Acadia, David & Joanna provided an unmatched respite from every day life. We loved sitting by the water at night with a little fire raging an we loved watching the colors of the sunset which could only match the colors of the autumn foliage as sat on a granite bench at the edge of the stone circle. We will be singing your praises and the praises of LIght Heart to our friends and family and we hope to come back soon for another recharge of our bodies, minds & souls. Steve & Sivan, MA

One of the first things David said to us after we arrived was, “Nothing happens by accident” That has certainly been true in our finding this little piece of heaven. My husband and I were in need of a serious break from stress. We live in New York City and our lives are full full FULL of distractions and busy-ness. Having looked at DOZENS of properties and made countless phone calls and emails to property owners in Maine, we chose the Light Heart Retreat. What we experienced there went far beyond our dreams of the perfect, restful "holiday," and indeed taught us that we need to change the course of our lives in general. David and Joanna were warm and welcoming to be sure, offering as much privacy as we wanted while also being available for hikes and any general needs. The home itself, the Huckleberry, was the most beautiful, comfortable, well-designed and thoughtful holiday home we've ever rented. The property was magical, with trails, quarries in which to swim and canoe, and a bald eagle offering a majestic spectacle each afternoon. The stone circle sunsets provided a powerful and peaceful ending to each day, and the spacious, well-stocked kitchen and outdoor grill fulfilled our desire to never leave the property. Magnificent! It's easy enough to find a place that provides a relaxing, good time with beautiful scenery. It's very, very rare to find a place such as the LHR, so full of magic, that immediately takes you back to youth and to your core. I felt alive again at the LHR, and its brilliant effect remains with me today. I am counting the minutes until our next visit. This very special place will strike a profound chord in those who are paying attention and looking for "more." Those who simply want to relax, read, swim, and absorb nature will be wonderfully satisfied, too. We recommend the LHR in great confidence!

Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Your home was more of a peaceful paradise than we imagined. The five nights we spent here just were not enough and we’re already talking about coming back. All the little extras (that meant so much) that you took your time to do really made us feel welcome. Thank you for everything!

Anyone reading these pages already knows that mere words cannot do justice to what is here...How can one really describe serenity? Modern man is too often deprived of the simple wonder of a star filled sky, the rush of the breeze through the trees and the haunting call of the loons.
