Hilo condo description
Enjoy the ocean breeze and sounds of the waves lulling you to sleep at our beautiful newly remodeled oceanfront retreat. With views off your lanai and Master bedroom, sleep well and wake up to an invigorating morning swim with the turtles.
This unit is completely furnished with a queen size bed in each bedroom and a complete kitchen. It’s a very convenient location, just 4 miles from the heart of Hilo town, the famous Farmer's Market and water activities on Hilo Bay. Experience a gorgeous view of the whole bay from Coconut Island while splashing and playing in the sandy coves surrounding the small island. Take time to get acquainted with the spirit of Hilo, you'll want to come back again and again. Weather is mild all year long with a range between the lower 70's and the low 80's. The beauty of Hilo would not exist if not for a little rain, usually early mornings and evenings. Enjoy our Rainbows and Waterfalls, but remember we wouldn't have them without the showers. The snow that peaks the mountain in January and February adds to this beautiful town of Hilo. Only 30 minute drive to Volcanoes national park, to enjoy the breathtaking views of the constantly active volcano, Kilauea. Visit the Hilo Coffee Mill and Atkatsuka Orchid Farm on the way. Viewing places give you a chance to see the lava flow, for which you can contact the National park for updates.
Hilo Seaside Restaurant is just across the street, serving all the local fish and freshly farmed trout. Bicycle or walk the ocean stretch and stop at any of the swimming spots or tide pools along the way. Just a short walk from Richardson's Beach, where you'll find some of the best snorkeling around offering plenty of live reefs and interesting reef fish to explore.
This 'Ocean stretch' is perfect for morning walks, jogging or biking. You'll enjoy the exercise available at this condominium location.

- Hilo town is the ultimate relaxation and cultural experience, where else can you visit the farmer's market, view an active volcano, climb the summit of 13,000 feet Mauna Kea to the snow and paddle your own canoe? All in a day, well, maybe not, but you can try. It is all here and much, much more. If you want clean air and clean water, you will find it here. Our night life is not booked as you would find in the big city, but then again, do you care? Our day life certainly is active and after years, you still have not done it all. Take a trip to the Onomea Botanical Gardens, the Volcano Winery, the fabulous Akaka Water Falls, or snorkel outside your door, they are all part of what makes the Big Island a special place...moreless

My Hilo home away from home
My Hilo home away from home
I have been coming to Hilo frequently since 2010 to watch our daughter play soccer at UHH, and have previously stayed at the Hilo Hawaiian, as well as a couple of other condos including one in the same building as this unit. I stayed at this condo 3 times this fall, and will now always check on availability of this one 1st whenever I return. Every visit went without a hitch, the condo has an open feel, a great jungle view from the living room, an ocean/lagoon view from the bedroom, and a 2nd bedroom as well. Everything needed is there waiting for you, the reserved parking spot is right in front, and the complex manager is always around and friendly adding to the already comfortable feeling of security. Never saw a bug, and there is nothing more soothing than the sounds of ocean waves and coqui frogs to lull you to sleep!

The location was great, around 10 minutes from the airport! The condo was very clean, with comfortable beds, an excellent pool, and had good security. There was a coin operated washer and dryer just outside our room. The weather in Hilo was better than we expected with mostly sunny days during our stay. There was so much to do around the condo itself. Outside your door is Carlsmith beach park and down the road was Richardson beach park. At the latter we saw numerous turtles. We were interested mostly in visiting the different parks to snorkel as well as drive up Mauna Kea for the Amateur telescopes available on certain Saturdays and to Volcanoes National Park. There were numerous waterfalls to be seen as well. The Puna area was also nice with many tidal pools to snorkel in. We recommend the Akatsuka Orchid farm tour if you're interested in Orchids. The tour is very interesting and the prices are much better than the mainland (and they ship). The farmers market in town was great for fruits and veggies. I recommend the KTA grocery stores if you're looking for something you can't find at the farmers market. We stayed in one night and the DVD player was DOA. Donna replaced it the next morning for us. Overall the place was excellent. Mahalo Donna!

Wonderful Experience, Everthing as Advertised!
Wonderful Experience, Everthing as Advertised!
We came to Hilo for our son's graduation at UHH. We originally tried to reserve this unit; however, when the owner informed us that it was booked partially for the days we wanted, she informed us of her 2nd floor unit and immediately provided us with photos. We booked it for our intended week and while I'm always a little weary about the photos representing what's really there, we found it everything as advertised. While the building itself is on the older side (as with most in Hilo), the unit was upgraded, felt new and surprisingly seemed larger than the 720 sq ft. It was very clean, very comfortable and we felt very secure. Everyone we met there was very friendly. The location was perfect for our stay. We loved the adjacent park, tidal pools, and the trail through the mini-jungle located immediately behind leading to secluded, scenic shorelines. It was a easy drive, minutes from the airport and downtown Hilo and provided a great base station for exploring the different parts of the island - Hilo, Puna and the Hamakua Coast. Donna was extrememly accomodating and professional. We need to look no further for our destination for future returns to Hilo.

Owner response: Aloha Mike! I hope everyone who visits will take advantage of the wonderful area and what it has to offer. You summed it up nicely, and I thank you for your kind words. I look forward to having you a guest anytime. Aloha, Donna
We spent a very happy week staying in this 2 bedroom condo near Carlsmith Beach Park. While the building itself is not new, the condo is updated and upgraded. Tile and bamboo floors throughout make it a breeze to keep clean. The kitchen, while "cozy", is very well-stocked and spotlessly clean, as is the rest of the condo. The view is best from the back bedroom, but you can be in the lagoons (glorious!) in a minute. What a beautiful site---ocean waves crashing on the rocks, while you swim with turtles in the spring-fed and sea-water mix. The sandy bottom is a rare find Hilo-side. The building was well designed for maximum ventilation, and most nights we needed a light blanket. Fans are provided for those who like to sleep even cooler. All in all, I'd happily spend more time at this happy hale, and I recommend it with two thumbs up.

Great Condo Great Owner!!!
Great Condo Great Owner!!!
We so enjoyed staying at this condo. The bed was very comfortable ( and we are picky about that) and we both slept like a log( even with the croque frogs). Matter of fact we kind of missed their chirping the first couple of nights we were home! The condo was nicely furnished and the grounds were nice too. Outside of the master bedroom you can just see the ocean, but the view of the rain forest was spectacular! Recommend Ken's House of Pancakes and the Seaside Restaurant (which is just across the street from the condo). Also recommend the Ponds (get a window table). The Hilo Bay Cafe was a bit of a disappointment though. Please stop at the Hilo Homade Ice Cream Shop just down the road to Hilo. Some of the best ice cream we've had (don't forget to tour the grounds too). Get off the main highways and explore some of the small towns on the island, you would be surprisedwith what you'll find. When we get back to Hilo again I know just where we are planning to stay!!!!!!! Hilo is just a nice, laid back town with lots of charm and not nearly as touristy as the Kona coast. Anyway, you won't be disappointed with the condo and Donna is the best!!! Would recommend this condo to all.

My mom and I had a great time relaxing at the lagoon and watching the turtles. Everything about the unit was fantastic, and stocked with everything you'd need on a vacation. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and will tell our friends about the place!

The location of this rental is 2+ miles removed from anything that you can walk to in the city of Hilo. That offered a more private location, but also inconvenient for any needs in town. Overall it was not a bad room. It appeared clean and well cared for. There was no air conditioning which is not unique on the islands. Pros: affordable, 2-bedroom accommodations, adjacent to an amazing park with crystal-clear COLD spring-fed ocean water where you can swim with sea turtles for free, uncrowded freshwater pool. Cons: the view is misrepresented as the ocean is only partially viewable from the bedroom (the rest of the view is forest), the building looked a little run down, the building's elevator was a bit sketchy (my wife was afraid that it could stop working while we were on it...with good cause) BUGS! The bugs are the main reason for my poor rating. There are several well-placed roach motels in the unit. My least favorite is among the dishes. During the day they were not visible, however, at night many roach-like bugs are certain to be hanging out on the walls and in the kitchen. If I had to do it over again, I certainly would have chosen a different place due to the bug problems.

Owner response: In a recent review, the writer states that there was a bug problem in the unit. I'm not sure if there actually was bug sightings, or as the review stated; they must certainly be there? If I had know of this problem during the stay, the Pest Control Company could have been called out immediately. I prefer to have someone call and complain about anything they don't like; and I"ll do my best to make it right immediately. I've already made the apptl for the routine spray to be done again. I certainly hope this will not be a problem to anyone else. As far as the elevator's condition; I agree. And the whole system will be replaced by January 2013. We'll all be happier then. Again, if there is a problem.........call me! Remember, I don't live there. But, I do you want you to have the best experience possible. I've never gottena response of this type before. Please, if anyone is dissatisfied; call immediately.

Wonderful Hilo Experience, We'll Be Back!!!
My wife and I were guests in this great condo from 4-19 thru 4-21. We were pleasantly surprised at how safe, comfortable and well equipped this unit was. We felt right at home the minute we got there. Clean, light and airy with fantastic views of the ocean and surrounding property. The location was terrific and proved very convienent to our daily excursions. Whether we went north to see water falls or south to the Volcanos Park we had no trouble finding our way around from this location. We were just minutes away from stores, restaurants, the airport. We found our stay here every bit as nice, if not more so, than any of our stays at brand name hotels. We will definiately be calling Donna again next time we come to Hilo! We found her very personable and so willing to help make our stay a most memorable experience. Be sure to ask her about places to eat and visit, you will feel like a local!!Thank You - we will be recommending you to all our friends!! R and S

Comfortable Stay in Hilo
A nice at-home feeling. Open, airy feel with great view. Saw turtles as soon as we walked to the lagoon. Building is safe and unit is clean and well supplied with towels, ice chest, and all you need in the kitchen to prepare eat in or picnic meals to take with you as you explore this side of the island. The sounds of birds and waves are heard throughout the day along with frogs at night. The owner, Donna, was very friendly.

Another Great Stay on Hilo Bay
Another Great Stay on Hilo Bay
This last visit (2/4 - 3/3/12) was actually the third within as many years in which I have stayed in one of the condo units rented by this property owner in this neighborhood. (One was a different unit in the same building, the other a unit in a building just down the avenue a few hundred yards.) In each case I have been well-satisfied with the the location and the ammenities. It's true about the turtles, too. They are down there in the lagoon, waiting for you to come pay them a visit. (Please don't touch or feed them, though, even if they do seem to be begging for those things.) A mile further down Kalanianaole Ave, at the very end of the road, is an excellent snorkeling spot (Richardson Beach Park). Popular with the surfers, too. Just outside the condo is a patch of rain forest, through which one can enjoy a short walk out to a some lava tide pools, where wonderful views are to be had. Drive, or ride the free bus service, into dowtown Hilo, a short distance away, where the farmer's market is (main market days there are Wednesday and Saturday), which is definitely the place to buy your produce, and which is also a feast for the senses. For a small place, Hilo has a lot to offer, from the charming old Palace Theater, to the Imiloa Observatory Center, the Tsunami Museum and the Mokupapapa Discovery Center, to some rather nice restaurants, coffee shops, etc. Does it rain? Sure, but its warm even when it rains, and there are also beautiful sunny days, with great vistas of the bay and Mauna Kea rising behind the town. Ranging beyond Hilo, there are many other attractions as well, from the rugged Hamakua coast to the north, the old-time Hawaiian ambiance of the Puna coast to the south, and the interesting and awe-inspiring sights of Volcano National Park, only about 30 miles away. Tourism exists in Hilo, but it is quite low-key compared to, say, the Kona Coast on the other side of the island. For my money, it is a much more relaxing and authentically Hawaiian holiday experience than the busier, more tourism-focused places that exist in the islands. And the rental units offered by this property owner on Hilo Bay are the best, most economical way to enjoy this wonderful "off the beaten path" part of Hawaii, in my opinion. I'm not able to actually move to Hilo full-time, so my personal compromise is to come over from the mainland for a month or so evey year. Renting one of the condo units offered by this owner is the next best thing to owning my own home here.

About the owner: I've enjoyed living on the Big Island for over 34 years now. I call it my home and it has been home to my 3 grown children as well. We all love surfing, canoe paddling and swimming. I think you'll see why the town of Hilo has such an alure especially if you enjoy life at a casual pace. I am a licensed Realtor here and constantly stay in touch with the happenings of this island. I hope you'll love it as much as I do!
Why the Owner Chose Hilo:
I purchased the unit specifically for a vacation rental. It's a great spot in Hilo; the weather is the very best in this area and you are steps away from the ocean. I hope you'll enjoy it as much as I enjoy living in Hawaii and enjoying the ocean activities. I've recently remodeled the unit and I keep it updated regularly for my guests.
The Unique Benefits at this Condo:
If you've ever wished you could see a Green Sea Turtle right up close; this is your chance. But, please be aware that the turtles are endangered and you can't feed them or touch them. You have a great ocean view right off your lanai where you can enjoy sunrises and lovely evening lights.
