Our 3 bedroom + private study, 3.5 bath home is surrounded on two sides by a lagoon on beautiful Seabrook Island. Amenities include a hot tub, huge gourmet kitchen, great room with vaulted ceiling, 2 screened porches, open grill deck, wide screen HDTV, complimentary access to all the facilities of the Seabrook Island Club and access to two of the most pristine, uncrowded beaches on the East Coast. A long term (4 week min) rental is available from January 3, 2012, to February 7, 2012, for $100 per night plus tax. A 15% discount is available for spring and summer rentals.

Seabrook is a private gated community dedicated to maintaining the natural beauty of its live oak and pine canopies, quiet lagoons, tidal marshes and creeks, and pristine dunes and beaches. Yet it is also a premier resort offering two championship golf courses, tennis center, equestrian center and private club with dining, fitness and pool facilities. Our favorite activities are biking along the quiet, well maintained streets circling and crossing the island and either walking or biking along the pristine beaches to watch the dolphins play off shore.

If you are looking for a quiet, but active vacation with your family or friends, this is the rental home for you. The home is almost brand new (finished the fall of 2006) and its design was inspired by the noted Southern Living architect, William Poole. With over 3200 square feet of living space plus an additional 1000 square feet of verandas, screened porches and decks, there is ample room for a large family, two smaller families or a number of friends vacationing together.

The spacious great room with its stone fireplace, wide screen HDTV and hickory shelving opens to the loft above and the open deck overlooking the lagoon. Our Big Green Egg is located on this deck. On each side of the open deck is a large screened porch. The east porch provides an outdoor dining option and the west porch houses the hot tub. Below this porch is the outdoor shower. Off the great room is the kitchen/dining area.

The kitchen is stunning - granite countertops, hickory cabinetry, DCS 5 burner gas cooktop, convection oven, microwave, refrigerator with front ice and filtered water dispensers, wine cooler, large double sink, etc. The peninsula and island with its prep sink provide extra work and seating space. The first floor master suite has bedroom with a king bed, a bath with double vanity and large shower with dual heads, two walk-in closets and large connected laundry room.

Upstairs, the east bedroom has a queen bed, huge walk-in closet and private two head shower bath. The west bedroom has three twin beds, a bunk bed and another huge walk-in closet. The private study has a queen pullout couch. A shared tub bath and loft sitting area service these rooms. Virtually every room has a ceiling fan and some have two - 14 total.

Our rental guests have access to all the amenities of the private Seabrook Island Club which includes two championship golf courses (one designed by Robert Trent Jones), 15 Har_Tru tennis courts, equestrian center, new Beach Club, pools and dining facilities via a complimentary amenity card. There is also access to the crabbing dock, trails, quiet streets and pristine beaches. Our rental guests also have access to the spectacular new lake side community center with its heated indoor/outdoor pool and extensive fitness facility.

We provide our rental guests with a kayak and a canoe. Sail and power boats and kayaks can be rented at the nearby Bohicket Marina. Bikes can be rented and delivered to your door. Golf packages saving you 20% are available upon request.

Why the Owner Chose Private Homes

My wife and I first visited Seabrook Thanksgiving, 1982, with three other couples on a holiday getaway from the onset of winter in Delaware. What a wonderful vacation! We all played tennis, golf, road horses, walked the beaches and dined in the Island House while enjoying the perfect weather. Of course, we all immediately fell in love with the island and revisited it a number of times. Almost twenty years after our first visit and after looking at resorts all along the Southeast Coast, we bought a lot on Seabrook Island Road in 2001 and built our Seabrook home in 2006. Today three of the four original couples who first vacationed there in 1982, own a home in Seabrook or nearby Kiowa.

The Unique Benefits at this House

As you may infer from the photo, bicycling about the island is one of our favorite activities. The size of the island is perfect for bicycling - you can get anywhere in less than half an hour. The streets are safe as bicycles due to the low 25 mph speed limit and the unfailing courtesy of the local drivers. The new bike path to Freshfields Village makes that ride especially pleasant. A new bike path from Freshfields to Kiowah is open now. We never tire of viewing the natural beauty of the pine and live oak forests, marshes, dunes and beaches. We often see deer, foxes and myriads of birds plus dolphins in the surf at Pelican Beach. Of course we enjoy other activities such as tennis and golf and paddling in the lagoons, surf and local creeks, but biking is the one activity we enjoy every day we spend there.

This is a photo of my wife and me biking on Pelican Beach in January. This is one of two Seabrook Island beaches. We often see dolphins playing in the surf.

Extended stay

Guest: John (-)
Date of Stay: 08/13/11 Review Submitted: 08/23/11

This guest requested an extended stay for one day. It did not work out to stay an extra day due to fixed costs, but we were able to delay the departure time to achieve a similar result. John writes: "We had a wonderful time this week, your house is fantastic -- thanks so much for everything! My wife and I have enjoyed it so much here that we'd like to ask if would be possible to stay another night? (everyone else will be leaving Saturday morning);" Our goal is to be as flexible as we can to satisfy the needs of our rental guests. It worked well this time.

Perfect in every way!

My family and I recently returned from our 4th stay at Seabrook Island. This is, by far, the best place we have rented. The property was well appointed and maintaned. After a long day at the pool and beach the hot tub was a welcomed joy. We also enjoyed the use of the canoe and kayak. A great place for teenagers and tired parents alike!

Owner response:A couple of comments are in order. First, I appreciate the kind words. These rental guests obviously appreciate the beauty and value of Seabrook Island as we do as indicated by their many repeat visits. They are also engage in active family vacations as they took advantage of the Seabrook's beaches and pools and our hot tub, canoe and kayak. We do the same. I would not be at all surprised if they someday became Seabrook Island property owners. This is the route by which the vast majority of all current Seabrook Island property owners became property owners.

A recent guest expected to use a charcoal grill and was disappointed when they did not find one. I was very concerned when she told me afterwards - I thought someone had made off with our Big Green Egg. Happily, it was just a misunderstanding. They thought the Big Green Egg was just a smoker and did not realize it was also a terrific charcoal grill. It was there on the open deck all the time. This is what she said: "The house is wonderful - especially the kitchen. Even though I only cooked dinner once (I'm not a cook!), it was perfect for us to come in at all times of the day and night to get snacks and drinks. The master suite is unbelievable! The shower!! I could stay in there all day. The beds were comfortable - lots of napping. And it was nice to have the office/den room with the couch, for a chance to get away by one's self once in awhile. We didn't fill or use the hot tub, but everything else seemed to work ok. We did think that there was a bbq, so had bought briquets and lighter fluid, but it wasn't on the deck. No problem, though. While the weather for the first part of the week was fine, it got really cool in the evenings and later on in the week so we weren't all that interested in grilling. All in all, it was perfect for us."

I could not have said it better: "dear jack, i just wanted to tell you what a wonderful time we had at your house in s. carolina. the house is absolutely beautiful and more than that, its layout makes it extremely comfortable and easy to live and play in! we loved the porches and even used the hot tub. we never had time to kayak at the island, but did take a tour with our kayaks with a local tour company. i am a cook, so the huge kitchen was an absolute dream for me! all of the appliances (including the wine refrigerator!) were a pleasure to use. our only regret was that there were only 4 of us staying there--with all of that space, i kept saying what a waste it was not to have more people there to enjoy it! we took much advantage of the beautiful pool at the beach club and the bar that sits next to it! the reality company was very helpful and overall it was a terrific vacation. thank you for allowing us to stay there, i couldn't have chosen a better rental!"

A wonderful rental

Guest: Kevin and Kathy (Maumee, OH)
Date of Stay: 07/24/10 Review Submitted: 08/04/10

We've just concluded our 2nd stay at this beautiful home and would highly recommend the home and Seabrook Island for a very relaxing beach vacation. The home is an easy bike ride to the beach club, which is a wonderful and convenient way to enjoy the beach and pools. Their location on the lagoon is very tranquil and we also enjoyed using the canoe and kayak provide for paddling around the lagoon in the evening. This was a great setup for two families vacationing together and we'll be back.

Another guest fournd our layout to be family friendly as indicated below; "Jack I received the check for the deposit - thank you.  It reminded me to let you know that we thoroughly enjoyed the house and it was one of the best properties we have rented over the years in the Seabrook/Kiawah area.  The kitchen with the gas stove was fantastic and the whole layout of the house was very family friendly. All the best with your future rentals, C" I also enjoy cooking on the 5 burner DCS cooktop as it provides both superior high temperature performance and great simmer control.

A recent guest wrote: "Just a quick note to let you know how much we enjoyed our stay at Seabrook. Your home is lovely and both families had a wonderful vacation." Many of our guests are two families vacationing together. The layout of the house is amenable to this arrangement and we often entertain friends and relatives this way.

One of our recent guests is a pet owner and had some interesting comments: "Oh, for what it's worth, one of your neighbors who's a dog lover mentioned that Seabrook is considering a dog park, which we think would be absolutely great. We never did have a chance to go to the new Club, but the workout facilities were excellent. Believe it or not, we had such a good time on Seabrook for 2 weeks, we never made it into Charleston, where we've vacationed quite a number of times. I hope we can stay again and I'll keep tabs on VRBO for availability." We too support the concept of a "dog" park. If we do get one I will mention in my description of Seabrook. Currently a section of North Beach is designated a leash free area.

As this recent guest points out, there may be some down side to excellent facilities: "I wanted to send you a note to let you know how much we enjoyed your house over the past week. The house was above and beyond what we expected. I also used the hot tub every day. The bad part about that is, now I want one for my house." However, they are welcome to return any time.

Most of the comments published here contain praise for the facilities and services we offer. However, I want to reverse that for a recent guest who wrote: "We had a wonderful time in Seabrook! Your house worked out perfectly and Seabrook is a beautiful place! Thank you for all your help." Our property manager went by the house just after they departed and was concerned (until she double checked) that the house was never occupied as it had been left so neat. Guests such as these (we have been fortunate enough to have quite a few) are always welcome. One advantage of keeping the place up is that the guests feel obligated to leave it that way. This helps everyone as it keeps our cleaning and maintenance costs down and allows us to present a better product at a lower cost.
