Between the Chama River and red rocks a new vacation home opened this summer. Casa Granada.
The views from the house are sensational. On one side the colorful Chama River is lined with old cottonwood forest. On the other side the majestic red cliffs rise on old Spanish Land Grants and National Forest lands.
Casa Granada has a welcoming sunroom in addition to its spacious living/kitchen/dining area, one bedroom with a queen-size bed, and one bathroom. In the living area, a full-size sleeper futon is available to accommodate two additional guests. The house comes fully equipped including a utility room with washer and dryer.
The interior is stylish and elegant, blending New Mexican design features with Moorish accents. This exquisitely finished house features hand-carved furniture and woodwork details from the master artisan at Andaluz Woodwork. This house also offers lovely, relaxing outdoor space.
Casa Granada is located a short distance from the pueblo of Abiquiu. A brief drive or a beautiful walk will take you to Plaza Blanca, Abiquiu's intriguing white limestone formations. Plan a hike on a full moon night and you will be moonstruck by the bright glow of white stone pillars and gnome-like hoodoos.
Nearby are Ghost Ranch, the Piedra Lumbre (Valley of Shining Stone), Abiquiu Lake, prehistoric Indian ruins, and hundreds of thousands of acres of wilderness (in the Santa Fe and Carson National Forests). Hiking galore. Peace and quiet abundant. Natural beauty everywhere you look.
Hiking in the direct surroundings, and in Abiquiu's wild back country. Indian rock paintings and ancient ruins, splendid Abiquiu Lake, the wide and magic Piedra Lumbre basin, the Chama River Canyon, are all within easy reach, as are old Hispanic villages and hamlets.
Day trips to Chaco Canyon, Chama, Taos, Santa Fe, Ojo Caliente Mineral Springs, Bandelier National Monument, or the White Sand Dunes of Colorado. In winter time, the ski slopes of Taos, Santa Fe and Los Alamos are inviting downhill racers, and hundreds of thousands acre of wilderness are available for back country ski or snowshoe lovers.
The house has Plaza Blanca as its uniquely inspiring backyard, with the North-Africa style Dar al Islam mosque a surprising shape on the horizon. |
