The apartment, which is privately owned, is managed by a local company, whose offices are less than five minutes from the apartment and all of the staff speak both English and Italian fluently, ensuring that your stay will be managed smoothly and efficiently.
The medieval town of Cortona, the main town in Frances Mayes' book, ‘Under the Tuscan Sun’, as well as the main location for the movie of the same name, is one of the most beautiful hill top cities in the Tuscany region, with a thriving, friendly and welcoming local community. Cortona's Teatro Signorelli, its Etruscan Museum, the many beautiful churches, St. Frances' cells and the historic Lake Trasimeno nearby, are places not to be missed during your visit, while from Piazza Garibaldi and from the beautiful Parterre Gardens views of Lake Trasimeno and of the surrounding valley are another ‘must see’.
In July, Cortona hosts the famous Umbria Jazz festival, and countless other musical and artistic activities, including outdoor movies in the Parterre Park or open-air opera by the Teatro Signorelli. In August, visitors can participate in the famous "Sagra della Bistecca", where large fires cook beef steaks through the night. In September Cortona hosts one of the best and most famous antique fairs, AND all of these activities take place outside, under balmy Italian night skies.
Cortona also has two wonderful art museums, as well as several art galleries that exhibit paintings of both local and foreign artists. |
