I decided to write my review here, since the other reviews here are old. Look up "Safe Harbor" on HomeAway.com for more current reviews! We loved this house. Lisa calls it a "cottage" but it's a house, alright. Clean, bright, everything you need. Loved waking up in that king-sized bed, opening my eyes & looking out at the cove. Refreshes the soul. The master bedroom & the living area have walls of windows, so you can always see the water. Linens & towels are included, which makes life so much easier. The only downsides: it's a 20-25 minute ride down the island, so be sure that you get what you need before you head there, as there are no "quick trips" to the store. Also, because it's right on the water & built on ledge, the master bedroom gives off a musty smell when you first arrive. Easily remedied by opening the windows (and there are LOTS of windows that open!). In about 15 minutes, the beautiful ocean breezes clear the air. And the place is so private that we left the windows opened all night. Between the breeze & the sounds of the water, we slept like babies. We brought our kayaks, but the tides were against us. We like to kayak early in the morning, but the morning tide was low-tide, and you just can't get the kayaks in from the property at low tide. Kayaking at high-tide, tho, was lots of fun. Lots of places to explore. Wish the tides were opposite, so we could kayak in the early morn & then again at dusk. Oh, and if you are a nature-lover, bring some really good binoculars with you! We saw dolphins at the mouth of the cove a couple of mornings (wouldn't have seen them without our binocs.) There was the occasional seal, several osprey, eiders, loons and ducks we've never seen before called black guillemots (tho they were not quite black, as they were starting to "change into their winter coats" :D) We highly recommend Safe Harbor. Thanks, Lisa, for a fabulous vacation spot.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway.

What an incredible vacation home! It was everything that we could have hoped for and then some! We enjoyed many day trips throughout the mid-coast as well as staying home and kayaking around the island. It was so peacefull and beautiful to go early morning kayaking (4:30am) on the calm waters to watch the sun rise while having the harbor seals follow the kayaks around! High tide is the perfect time to launch your kayak right off of the top of the rocks in the back yard! "Red's Eats" in neighboring Wiscassett is a MUST if you like lobster roll!!! The light house at Pemaquid was one of our favorite places to sit on the rocks and soak in nature's splendor! The crashing surf was incredible, especially a couple of hours before high tide! This was, without a question, the most relaxing, easy going and "back to nature" vacation that we've ever had! We hope to come back to Safe Harbor in the near future. Anyone considering renting this vacation home can do so with CONFIDENCE!!! A+++Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 3/3

My family and I have been to this wonderful cottage twice so far. It is beautifully situated in a sheltered cove, yet still has a lovely view to the open ocean. I really enjoy kayaking up and down the coast of the island as well as up the cove and along a windy stream. The area is very quiet and yet also within easy access of many attractions along the mid-coast. I love the open layout of the cottage and its panoramic view. It is fun to wake up facing the view of the opposite shoreline and hear the gentle sound of the rigging of the sailboats moored in the cove. Looking forward to returning next year!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

We had a perfect week. The house was everything we could have wanted! We canoed, picked blueberries and made a pie, picked mussels and cooked them for dinner -- delicious! This is a real gem - we would love to return. Thanks for this luxurious Maine treat.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1
