Owner's Profile
Owner Description
Year Purchased: 1995
We are travelers and fishermen. Here we are in May 2009 at Mt. Ranier, Washington on our way to fish and explore Alaska. But it doesn't matter where in the world we've traveled, we love coming home to Lake Chatuge.
Why the Owner Chose Hayesville
In 1987 we bought a bass boat at the Atlanta boat show and started fishing all the lakes in the south. On July 4th that year we headed to Lake Chatuge. As we drove over Young Harris mountain into Hiawassee, we saw the incredible view of the lake surrounded by the high mountains and knew we'd live there someday. For the next 10 years we camped on the lake in Hayesville in our travel trailer. In 2003 Ann retired from AT&T and moved to the lake to sell real estate and tend to our rentals. Barry joined Ann a year later and we've been living in paradise ever since.
The Unique Benefits of this House
Even though the house is 20+ years old, it has been meticulously maintained. The upper level was remodeled in 2009; the lower level in 2007. We work very hard to keep everything in top-notch condition and clean as a whistle. Our home is located in a quiet neighborhood on a dead-end street and is one of the most private on Lake Chatuge. It has a great floorplan for large groups or only one or two couples. The location is convenient to everything -- about 5 miles to the grocery store in Hayesville, NC and 7 miles to the groceries in Hiawassee, GA. Both towns are quaint, active communities that you will enjoy exploring.

My family of 11 rented this house for the week of July 4th. There were 5 adults and 6 children ages 9 - 16. There was something for everyone here. The house was stocked with everything we could have needed. The house is very spacious, clean, comfortable and there was plenty of room for everyone. The view of the lake off the back porch was amazing. It was so fun to be cooking in the kitchen together and have so much room to move around. I can not express enough how incredible this vacation was staying at this beautiful house. We will be back to stay on Lake Chatuge next year and will rent this house again for sure. We are affraid to rent anything else since we now know how perfect this house is! Thank you!!!

In the Summer of 2010 we rented this house (the larger one) for a vacation with our extended family. We were 15 people and a dog. We couldn't have gotten a better place. Everyone was extremely satisfied with the house, the lake, the scenery, the area. The house is really big, comfortable and very clean and well maintained. The golf cart ride to the lake was a real plus (the kids loved it!) The lake and the dock are perfect to go fishing or renting a power boat nearby and go around sightseeing or simply canoeing or just sit by the shore in the evening to enjoy a bonfire and a beer ;-) If you are into hiking, you won't be disappointed either. Even since before we left we've been dreaming on coming back one day. The Smoky Mts are simply spectacular. I highly recommend it!
Owner response:Thanks so much for this exptremely wonderful recommendation...it make all the investment and work worthwhile. Ann & Barry Wedgwood

Our family of 6 adults and 6 children enjoyed Thanksgiving (2008) week in the home. There was nothing you could need or want that wasn't available. It is spacious and extremly 'user friendly'. We were able to prepare the full traditional turkey dinner with more than one cook in the kitchen. There was cookware and dinnerware for every need. The dining area in the sunroom is large enough to seat everyone together with room to spare. The kids explored the hills and forest around us, played games in the bonus area downstairs and the 4 boys loved having the downstairs bedroom and bath to themselves. The two teen girls claimed the 'bed/den' area of the sunroom as their territory and peace reigned. Some of the men and a lady enjoyed hiking in the area. The 'elders' and the pregnant lady enjoyed the quite and relaxation, which occured when the others were out doing the active things. The lake and it's amenities were available although we did not take advantage of that... but the view we soaked up thoroughly. Friday, following T'giving, we all enjoyed exploring and shopping in the quaint, picturesque town of Hayesville. We made precious memories and this home contributed greatly to our being able to do this. The owner was just a call away should we encounter any problems, which we did not. I highly recommend this property to anyone looking for a little piece of heaven where family and/or friends can reconnect and strenghten relationships. Sue
