Just three miles by road from downtown Petersburg, this private, beachfront guest house offers panoramic views of Frederick Sound. Park off the road and a short path gives you easy access to the side entrance. Downstairs, you will find a comfortable bedroom with a queen bed, full bathroom with tiled shower, a cozy living room with adjoining dining area and a fully stocked kitchen. The hand-made, wooden staircase leads to a mezzanine with a sitting area and queen futon, a full bathroom and one large bedroom with two double beds. Views of forest, water and mountains are seen from every room.

Picture windows wrap around the house and offer unparalleled views of Frederick Sound. Start up the barbecue and watch whales, sea lions, seals, eagles, loons, fishing vessels and yachts from the covered deck. The sheltered picnic area on the beach provides excellent access and storage for kayaks. Petersburg, Alaska offers charters for halibut and salmon fishing, whale-watching, glacier viewing and kayaking excursions. A Birder's paradise, especially in May and June with many sightings of the Yellow-Billed Loon. Take the day ferry to Anan Bear Reserve and watch Alaska Brown Bear in their natural habitat as they fish for salmon. A country road provides miles of bicycle riding and hiking.

  • We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Lucky Loon. It was our first visit to Alaska and Louise made it memorable! Lots of activities in the area kept our family very busy and entertained, and the quite times spent watching the scenery from the back deck were invaluable. We highly recommend!

  • To those smart and wise enough to get this far into planning a vacation to Alaska SE this is where you want to be and do. It's been three months since I spent a week with family and friends and I am trying to figure when I will be able to return. Louise is a hospitality specialist who makes things work and enjoys what she is doing. The touches she has brought to her property is top shelf. She pays attention to detail and the comfort zone is high and plush. Our group kayaked out the front door and hiked non stop with resting on the front porch for a sunset and BBQ nightly. A travel tip-take the Alaska Marine Ferry from the south (Bellingham)to Petersburg and just let go into the Lucky Loon for as long as you can take the remarkable scenery, sea-life, and fun. If I could do it over I would have stayed longer and continued to enjoy the town of Petersburg and the fine people that populate the city. Just don't tell everybody-this unspoiled place can't last.
