Our trip to Petersburg was a family vacation with our adult children. It was a trip none of us will ever forget! Louise was so helpful from the first time I called to inquire about the Lucky Loon, until the end of our week stay there. The cabin was neat, clean and cozy. We had everything we needed at our disposal. We loved the seculsion the Lucky Loon provided. It was peaceful and quiet and the view was amazing! We are an active bunch and spent everyday exploring the island and surrounding area. We went on a guided 14 mile kayak trip to the LeConte Glacier, an unbeliveable experience. We paddled among huge icebergs and harbor seals to the mouth of the glacier. The surrounding mountains were lined with waterfalls and wildlife. We also spent one day on a whale watch excursion. We traveled along the Frederick Sound and were able to see Orcas and Humpback whales. The three guys went on a chartered fishing trip and came back with halibut, cod and Coho salmon! We took over 30 pounds of fresh Alaskan fish home. We spent several days just hiking on the many trails in Petersburg. The beauty of the rainforest is etched in our minds forever. The wildlife was everywhere - we saw black bear, deer, eagles, porcupines, minks and a variety of sea life. We dined on fresh fish every night and were able to pick blueberries right on the property for pancakes in the morning. We will never forget our time in Petersburg and hope to return to the Lucky Loon again.
Owner response:Thank you for the kind words. Those family trips mean so much, they are my fondest memories from my younger days. You folks were amazing. It was one of our rainiest summers ever and you never let it stop your activities. Now, that's the Alaskan way! Hope to see you again in the future. Louise

Our stay at Lucky Loon was fabulous! We had gorgeous views, which provided quiet and tranquility, wonderful amenities; beautiful kitchen, cozy beds, bath, satellite TV (not that we watched it), baking and frying equipment, and a gas grill. We enjoyed shopping and dining in Petersburg as well as hiking in and around Sandy beach. The view from inside, the wrap around windows or deck is outstanding. We watched eagles, deer, hummingbirds daily, and the occassional mink run by. In Frederick Sound we saw; seals, seabirds and a humpback whale swim, kayakers paddle and boats sail by. We watched the colors change over the mountains and across the water everyday. The hospitality is first rate - warm and thoughtful. Louise, you created an amazing stay for us, thanks for everything – the fresh halibut was delicious! We highly recommend Lucky Loon and plan to return.

I wanted my family's first trip to Alaska to be perfect and I knew that the most important part would be the lodging. It would be my mother in law, wife, 7 year old daughter and I on the trip. We wanted to rent a house so that we could come and go on our schedule and cook some of our own meals. The Lucky Loon fit the bill more than I ever expected. Louise is a true gem that supplied lots of helpful information and support that made our trip to Petersburg our best vacation ever. The house is incredible, clean, beautiful, awesome, perfect, neat, scenic, and remote yet convienent to town (everything in Petersburg is close to town). We saw whales, deer, hummingbirds, mink, eagles, seals, and sea lions from the house! We cooked using the BBQ grill, crab cooker, and well stocked kitchen and everthing was perfect. My daughter loved walking a few steps out the door and picking blueberries for a snack or for the pancakes. The satellite tv and wireless internet worked perfect. A minus tide found us on the beach right in front of the house where we found starfish, crabs, colorful little eels, erchins, and other critters for my daughter to play with. Icebergs floated by right out front with beautiful snow capped mountains also in view. The Lucky Loon and Louise/Petr are one of those rare things that you stumble on only a few times in your life. We have not had a day go by since returning that we don't saw something about our trip. Thanks louise for sharing your little slice of heaven. Hank G. Lakeland, Louisiana

My husband and I loved being at The Lucky Loon and found it hard to leave, even for more Alaska experiences. We stayed 8 nights, found the house warm, welcoming, open and with an astonishing view of gorgeous Frederick Sound. The waterfront was magnificent, watching for wildlife and icebergs kept us entranced. We enjoyed the small town of Petersburg and found everyone there helpful and friendly (We think the town should be kept a secret). Louise was great fun and certainly went beyond our hopes and expectations to make it a most enjoyable vacation. We plan to return, with our grandchildren when they're older. It would be a fabulous experience for them, especially if it's a couple of weeks later in the season - those ripening berries were very appealing.

Let's see...do you prefer waking up to the cries of bald eagles busily searching for a fish breakfast? Does a river otter cruising the kelp just offshore get your blood going? Or, like us, is your cup of tea having humpback whales cruise past the beach? The Lucky Loon offers all of this and more. Upon walking into the Lucky Loon, my husband and I were immediately impressed by the property. Expansive windows reveal million dollar views of Frederick Sound and glaciated Alaskan/Canadian mainland mountains to the east while blue and white bergs calved from Le Conte Glacier glide slowly past on tidal currents. The other three sides of the house are nestled amongst rain forest foliage that offer solitude and complete privacy. Occasionally a Sitka deer would make an appearance during our stay in the dense forest outside the kitchen window. Beyond the obvious attractions of location, privacy, quiet and the outstanding view, our hostess, Louise does a splendid job of making her guests feel at home. Whether offering area information or making certain guests are warm, happy and content, Louise is a wonderful hostess. We thought Louise went a few extra miles to ensure our stay was pleasant. That kind of hospitality is so welcome! The Lucky Loon is a beautifully appointed rental home, filled with all one may require during one's stay from a full, well-supplied kitchen to ample, plush fresh towels and a washer and dryer. The house is immaculate; linens are fresh, floors are clean and windows sparkle. Additionally, Louise thoughtfully chose decor inviting visitors to be comfortable, surrounding guests with colorful wall art as well as abundant summertime flower baskets on the wraparound deck. The Loon felt like home to us. This stay at Lucky Loon marked my husband's and my third visit to Petersburg, Alaska. There is so much to recommend about Petersburg. We come to be surrounded by and photograph high concentrations of summertime humpback whales, of which the waters near Petersburg offer unparalleled views. If you wish to see humpbacks without the nuisance of hordes of tourist boats---at this point in time---journey to Petersburg for some all day whale watching. Nearby Le Conte Glacier is spectacular whether viewed from the air, a kayak or a small glacier tour vessel. Plus Mitkof Island, on which Petersburg is situated offers miles of wilderness forest roads with many foot trails through stunning rain forest or musk

Our family had a wonderful vacation in the Lucky Loon. My daughter 7 and son 5 found the beach to be loaded with creatures to find and new things to discover under every rock. And the huge blueberries made for delicious blueberry pancakes. I found the wireless internet to be helpful in allowing me stay in touch with my business and allowing me to spend extra time in Alaska. It is tough to find vacation homes like this with internet too. The home was very comfortable and we had friends come visit and there was plenty of room for everyone. The large bbq was perfect for our steak dinners and shrimp from the local boat! The kids loved playing foozball on the ocean deck too! A wonderful place to spend a week! Best regards, Todd

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Lucky Loon. It was our first visit to Alaska and Louise made it memorable! Lots of activities in the area kept our family very busy and entertained, and the quite times spent watching the scenery from the back deck were invaluable. We highly recommend!

To those smart and wise enough to get this far into planning a vacation to Alaska SE this is where you want to be and do. It's been three months since I spent a week with family and friends and I am trying to figure when I will be able to return. Louise is a hospitality specialist who makes things work and enjoys what she is doing. The touches she has brought to her property is top shelf. She pays attention to detail and the comfort zone is high and plush. Our group kayaked out the front door and hiked non stop with resting on the front porch for a sunset and BBQ nightly. A travel tip-take the Alaska Marine Ferry from the south (Bellingham)to Petersburg and just let go into the Lucky Loon for as long as you can take the remarkable scenery, sea-life, and fun. If I could do it over I would have stayed longer and continued to enjoy the town of Petersburg and the fine people that populate the city. Just don't tell everybody-this unspoiled place can't last.
