If you are looking for something off the beaten path, you have found it! Out at the northern tip of Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, the cottage is located at St. Margaret's village, in Bay St. Lawrence. From the 8x28 foot front deck you have a panoramic, unobstructed, undeveloped view as the sun sets into the ocean. In season, you can enjoy the local lobster or snow crab caught in the bay in front of you.
Not far off the Cabot Trail, the cottage is a good base for golf at Highland Links in Ingonish (one of the top-rated courses in the world), whale watching or deep sea fishing from the nearby fisherman's wharf. Cape Breton Highlands National Park is just 10 miles away where there are hiking trails and other activities in the summer. Our family spots at least one moose and one bear at this park every year! It is a thrill for the kids! See the links at the bottom of this page for more tourist information on Cape Breton.
Right in the village is a friendly community center with laundry facilities and internet access (as well as ping pong for the kids and a basketball hoop). There is a local grocery with all the basics. Right next door to the community center is an ice cream stand that is great for a quick dinner as well.
It is a birdwatchers paradise. Watch the eagles soar, the guillemots fly in and out of the cliffs below, or the gannets dive into the ocean from the cottage. You might even see the occasional pod of whales in the bay while you sit relaxing or reading on the deck. Read what some of our renters had to say:
J & C from Brooklyn, NY We just wanted to send you a quick note to tell you that we found your cottage to be fabulous -- exactly what we wanted and needed. The location, the village, the view, the whales, the people, the weather, everything made us very, very happy to be there. You may be hearing from us for years to come when we consider beautiful, comfortable places to go on our vacations.
J & K from Florida I received the security refund today and it reminded me to write and let you know how much we enjoyed the use of your cottage. You truly have a remarkable setting. I had never been to Nova Scotia before and was amazed by its beauty and space. I never considered returning, but this place may well change my mind. I need not have been concerned about keeping busy. I bought a Ludlum novel and didn't even pick it up except on the return flight. Thank you again for sharing what I know is a very special place. |
