  Hale Hokuu Too was the perfect home for our stay in Hawaii. The location was perfect for day trips to the North, East or the West but we liked the south shore best. December may not be the perfect time to visit but the weather was a lot better than in Chicago. The home was even better than the photos promised. Everything was clean and comfy. We were able to find everything we needed and more within the home. It was a bit cold to swim in the pool but lounging on the lanai or out by the sea wall were perfect ways to relax. We have several sunset pictures of Spouting Horn from the house. Gale was delightful to work with and very helpful with all of our questions. We recommend this as the perfect location and a comfortable home with every amenity. We really enjoyed walking up to the Allerton Garden just a 5 minute walk away. We enjoyed several meals in the shopping center just a 5 minute drive away. Poipu beach is awesome - and I don't use that word lightly. A great place to snorkel or just lay around. Our most favorite activities that I'd recommend to anyone visiting were a catamaran trip to the Napoli Coast and a helicopter tour over the island. Unforgettably beautiful. Mahalo Gale.

  Not our first stay here but the first time to experience the entire house. Perched above the seawall, you go to sleep and wake up to the sounds of the ocean. The beds are all very comfortable, the main floor is spacious, huge couch, open kitchen with large refrigerator and freezer, master bedroom and bath with its own deck, entertainment centers on the main floor and on the ground floor where there also are 2 bedrooms, 2 baths. 180 degree ocean views, lots of deck and patio space and a lap pool that we used every day. There's a neat loft has a computer desk w/internet, exercise machine plus space with couches for a child's play area. You see the owners pride in the tasteful decorating particularly on the main floor. We had two couples and the home comfortably allowed us to enjoy being together or pursue separate activities. Although there's no beach immediately in front, there is one a very short walk up the street and a number of others within short driving distance. The Botanical Gardens are also a short walk from the house as is Spouting Horn. Although we enjoyed watching Spouting Horn from the deck doing its thing with the sun setting behind it on the ocean. The owners have always maintained this property well and this trip was no exception. And they have supporting items like cribs, beach chairs etc for family support and fun. There's a relatively new shopping center a couple of miles up the road with a number of different style eateries. Although our two favorites further east in Poipu are Brenneckes for drinks and a casual meal and Casa Di amici for a truly wonderful dining experience.

  This house is even better than the gorgeous pictures show. Kudos to the architect. Very well equipped, plenty of room for everyone, very comfortable, fabulous views. Only two quibbles -- all knives badly need sharpening and the pool needs a rail to help people get in and out. Everyone in our party thoroughly enjoyed our stay here.

  Words can't describe our week in Kauai. It all started with Hale Hokuu Too. The home was great and everything mentioned in the listing is accurate. Gayle has done a wonderful job in making Hale Hokuu feel like a home, not a vacation rental. She has a true treasure. Hearing the waves at night was soothing and made for easy sleeping. The pool was great to jump in and cool of on the hot days. Only thing I regret is that the bananas were not ripe for picking and I was not able to try them. Thanks for sharing you home with us and allowing us to have one of the most memorable weeks of our lives. We will return!!!

  When we booked this location we were excited based on the pictures that were sent to us and we were definitely not disappointed. It was our first time to Hawaii, we had a wonderful time and this house certainly played a role in making our vacation so fabulous. The house is clean, incredibly spacious and the location is great for Kauai. My family of four, along with a family of three, stayed here and we always felt like there was plenty of room for all of us across the property. The grill is new and was great for cooking fresh fish. I cannot say enough about how great the house was - we will definitely recommend to our friends and hope to stay here again when we go back. But, what makes this house go from great to fantastic is the owner - Gale. She was so great to work with from the beginning and she truly has an interest and cares that you are enjoying your stay not only in the home, but in Kauai. She called to check to make sure the accommodations were to our liking, made some recommendations for places to eat and when there was a minor issue she was on top of it immediately. Gale is not just renting this place out to cash your payment - she really does want you to enjoy this location. Only minor issue are the knives for cooking - they are pretty dull and the sharpening stone is worn down. I have stayed in locations where the plates, glassware, etc. is horrible and that is not Hale Hokuu Too - but if you plan on cooking a lot you may want to get a new knife or two at Walmart in Lihue to make sure you have sharp blades. If you have the chance to stay here - do not pass it up!!

  My wife and I have been to Kauai five times now, and have loved it every time. We knew we wanted to stay in the Poipu area, and had a wonderful experience with a previous VRBO home in the area. This place looked too good to be true; right on the ocean, our own lap pool, a beach less than a block away? Well, the description did not do it justice. In addition to all the above, the property is like a garden, the large upper deck always had a breeze and perfect views of Spouting Horn, and a VERY complete kitchen. The bedrooms were great, just right for our family of five adults, and could have easily accommodated additional kids. The home is well maintained and clean. The owner is always availalble by phone, and has several local people for anything that comes up. The location is perfect for walking, swimming, snorkeling, golfing, hiking, and sailing, all of which we did. But the best part was coming back after a full day and enjoying the sunset hour. As a bonus, The Beach House, one of the best restaurants on the island, with THE best sunsets, is minutes away. We can't wait to go back.

  Our party of 7 stayed at Hale Hokuu on our recent two-week trip to Kauai. We love the location in the Poipu area as it allows easy access to both the north shore and west side. Hale Hokuu is well situated near a small boat harbor with beautiful views and close to Spouting Horn. When not cooking in, we enjoyed dinners at Roy's in Poipu and Merriman's at Ku-Kuiula. We found the photos of the property to accurately reflect the property itself, both the appearance and ammenities. We had an issue with the wireless early on, and Gale was very responsive. The issue turned out to be on our end. The property was clean and well-maintained. The kitchen was well stocked with up-to-date appliances. Each bedroom had a/c, but we only needed to use it in one bedroom. Ventilation is very good throughout the house. Personal art and family pictures throughout give the property a comfortable feel. We will definitely consider Hale Hokuu for our future trips to Kauai, which we hope to be many.

  We had an fabulous time at this house!! There were 3 adult couples for our visit, no children. The pictures do accurately reflect this house. The house is beautiful and has everything anybody could possibly need for a great vacation. The location is great, close to shopping and beaches. Gale is super to work with and even recommended other places such as Smiths Authentic Luau. (Only suggestion is that the linens could be updated and a few extra bath towels would be nice, but there is a washer and dryer so why am I complaining ?)

  We had an absolutely wonderful time at this house!! The house is beautiful and has everything anybody could possibly need for a vacation. Towels, pool and beach toys, coolers, crib, etc. The beds were all comfortable, not one complaint from any of the travellers in our group. Gale was excellent to deal with, anytime we had a problem we called her and she did her best to resolve the issues. This house suited our needs to a tee. The location is great, close to shopping, beaches, the fantastic Beach House restaurant and you could see the spouting horn right from the deck and yard. The only negative that I found at this house is that the yard is not young child friendly (we have a 15 month old). The slope of the yard heads straight to a pile of rocks and to the ocean. There was plenty of room in this house for everybody to have some space when they needed it. I we are fortunate enough to return to Kauai with our family we will definately be coming back to this location.

  Where to begin? Positives about the house: 1) VIEW. The photos online totally under sell the view. You have 180 degree view onto the water. You can hear the waves in every bedroom if you choose. Awesome. 2) BIG open plan living space upstairs with kitchen/dining/living room all flowing together and flowing out onto a great deck with tons of space to eat or chill outside. 3) SPACE three bedrooms again understates it. The owners used to rent it as two apartments but no longer do (confirm this thought!). So there is a second living space downstairs if you book it as two families then you can have your own space. 4) LOCATION. Close to Poipu (3 minute drive) but far enough to not be covered in tourists. Negatives on the house: 1) It is top of the line decoration for, say, 1998. Everything you need is there / well furnished, but a bit dated (get over yourself if you care). Other comments. 1) Our toddler got a stomach flu a few days before we were supposed to start our trip. The owner was awesome - she would have let us transfer our booking to some friends if we couldn't make it and as she had a small gap between our booking and the next she let us shift a few days (don't expect it though!). ALSO when we rebooked the trip there were NO rental cars from any of the agencies but the owner tipped us to a local travel agency that got us a great deal on a car from hertz. 2) For little kids, the house is safe (hard to tell from photos). There are some half-staircases that you might be worried about (we blocked them with some chairs). The pool is not gated but no way the little one wanders out there accidentally 3) The negative review dates from when they rented the house as two apartments. What else can I say? Please don't rent it so that next time it is available for us!
