Hi Laura, Wanted to send a note to thank you and David for a great stay while we were in London. Your apartment is PERFECT, exactly what we needed while exploring London for our first time. Your attention to detail and furnishings and decor are so great. We feel sad that we did not get to spend more time getting to know you, so that means we will just have to return!

Fantastic Apartment

Date of Stay: 03/08/12 Review Submitted: 04/10/12

We recently stayed at the apartment for 3 nights and it was everything we had hoped for. Beautifully appointed and luxurious. Bus stop just up the road and an underground station a further 5 minutes up the road. David and Laura were fantastic to deal with and most helpful and knowledgeable abouth the local area. If you want a great place to stay away from the hustle and bustle but close enough to public transport to get there, this is the place. Only wish we could have stayed longer.

Perfect

A week in London visiting our daughter and what a wonderful flat. It was perfect for us, close enough to London to easily get in and out but far enough away that we could relax at the end of a busy day. The tube was a short walk away as was a grocery and several pubs. The flat was beautifully decorated and very comfortable with everything we needed and the welcome basket was a special treat, providing not just the necessities but also the perfect sweets and treats. Dave and Laura were the perfect hosts. They were available as needed making recommendations for excursions, pubs, and cigar shops but this was balanced with a respect for space and privacy. We are already planning our return trip in the spring and have recommended this flat to friends. Thank You Dave & Laura

Date of Stay: 10/22/11 Review Submitted: 01/02/12

I just wanted to thank you for a great week. We really enjoyed your lovely apartment and appreciated knowing you were there if we needed anything ! we lucked out with the weather and really got to explore the city - my feet are sore from walking so much. we especially enjoyed having a "home" to go back to with our kids instead of a Hotel !. We hope to come back ourselves and will certainly recommend it to others. You will have to tell David he shouldn't have told us his story of missing his flight as we promptly missed ours the next morning !!! Didn't set our alarms and were awakened by the taxi driver ringing the bell !!! We were out the door in 20 mins but arrived after the check out had closed -- fortunately we were rescheduled for the next day - so we took a train to brighton !! so -- not only did we have a wonderful week we had a great bonus day too !!! Thanks so so much for everything !!

The Best of the Best

Guest: Arthur, Kevin & Trish (Vancouver, B.C., Canada)
Date of Stay: 05/21/11 Review Submitted: 06/09/11

Having done considerable research prior to deciding on The Georgian House, an excellent decision it was. The accommodation was perfect - so well furnished, spacious & bright, exceptionally clean, wonderful outdoor spaces. This beautifully appointed flat is unique in that it is two separate floors, one with sitting area, kitchen, dining space & bathroom; the other with comfortable lounge area, large master bedroom, ample storage & full bathroom with tub & shower. Both floors have access to the outdoors. The attention to detail makes such a difference - quality linens, towels, duvets, wonderful decorative touches throughout. This is an exceptional residence and one that the owners obviously take great pride in. Having stayed in many other VRBO flats in both Europe & North America, The Georgian House was by far the best of the lot. Laura & David were the perfect hosts, always available for advice, directions and the right answers to all our questions. They made us feel so welcome & very much at home. Thank you David & Laura for making our stay in London such a pleasure and we will certainly recommend your charming home to both our friends and family who plan to visit the beautiful city of London.

The London Life!

Guest: Anne (Newcastle, NSW, Australia)
Date of Stay: 05/06/11 Review Submitted: 05/27/11

Hi to Laura, David and the family. Our stay in the apartment during early May was outstanding. London weather turned on a real show for us. Besides all the fantastice things we did in London it was really topped off by our stay at the Georgian House. Spacious and elegantly decorated it was a haven after long days of sightseeing. My husband was particularly impressed with the standard of the accommodation and he can be quite picky. The welcome basket of goodies was appreciated. I can only agree that the access to transport options was very handy. We were able to catch the Tube, bus No 18 or 73 into central London - gives another perspective of local life. Also the London overground connections to Richmond and Kew Gardens was just brilliant for a day out. We were also able to use this route to get to Gatwick airport when leaving instead of going all the way back into Victoria station during morining peak hour, (great suggestion Laura). All in all a great stay and would not think of staying anywhere else on return to London.

Owner response:London is totally spectacular at the moment - weather is just perfect the gardens , parks, hedgerows are in full bloom --- the capital with the greatest amount of green space -- just right for pottering around the corner to have a picnic in the park --- no need to make your own - get a ready made picnic basket from one of our renowned delis !! -- save the hassle for someone else Couldn't find a better trip than Kew or Richmond -- certainly on my top spots for getting a true sense of real london. I think you guys had the knack for seeking it out !!! Off the beaten track gives up so many treasures ! Thats why I love this city - something of interest at every turn

Dear Laura and David! Thank you very much for your hospitality. It was great!!!! We have enjoyed every single moment. London is a fascinating city. Your apartment is so beautiful that we would have liked to stay for ever - very tasteful and stylish furnishings. Most of all very clean and tidy. The terrace is a huge hit. Sabine and I, Barbara, we wish you and your lovely family the very best. For us you are the number one in London.

Owner response:We are always delighted when guests have a great time as thats what its all about !!. We are very lucky to meet so many fantastic people from all over the world and are also very proud of this fabulous city - so we really enjoy helping people get the most out of it -- we hope you will love it as much as we do We are also great travellers and have tried to make the apartment all that we would want ourselves if we were the renters - so, totally delighted when it is enjoyed.

Relaxing, luxurious and welcoming home away from home

Guest: Jeanne (Switzerland)
Date of Stay: 04/10/11 Review Submitted: 04/24/11

For us, the week we stayed at the Georgian House was just perfect: from the location - away from it all and yet within easy reach of bus and tube - to the lovely airy reading room and the welcoming hamper with goodies! Beautiful rooms, with nice little touches incl. wifi! Good tips from David re the best way to get to Kew and the best Thai food (really!) in town! We prefer to stay at home in the evenings and cook something that we bought in one of the many delis or food markets in the city. It was very relaxing to come back to our flat after a great day sightseeing, put our feet up and open a bottle of white wine! Also, a Sainsburys is virtually just round the corner. We'll definitely be back!

Owner response:London is definitely a foodie heaven -- and we have our fair share of "food" on the door step from 2 Michelin stars, or the "3rd best gastro pub in London", trendy Pop up restaurants run by the Young Chef of the year 2010, to the less critically acclaimed but we think no less fabulous "locals" serving Thai, Indian, home cooked Italian, game, burgers, mexican or just great sushi -- and that's just for when your staying near home but don't feel like cooking ! Want to create your own banquet, light supper or picnic ?? the choice is staggering, we have a local hypermarket and a couple of great local delis - but the place to go is down Portobello - our local street market -- loads of fresh produce and different cuisines to tempt you, food stores, spanish supermarkets and delis, portugese, morroccan, Thai, wet fish, organic, finishing up with a huge boutique food department store ( not joking !!) - eat yourself silly !!! And then when your clothes no longer fit catch the London Overground 2 stops to Londons biggest and newest Shopping experience -- with over 300 stores under one roof !!! -- one persons heaven - anothers hell !!!

A gem of a bolt hole !

Guest: JoJo (Montreal )
Date of Stay: 04/03/11 Review Submitted: 04/10/11

What can we say other than fantastic ! --- from our initial enquires to the end of our stay I can safely say this is one of our top VRBO experiences. Laura & David pitch it well in that that are really friendly and helpful without being intrusive - booked our transfers and were our restaurant and travel advisors for the week - having them as the insiders guide to London was brilliant and we saw things we would not otherwise have known about. Thanks for our walk to Abbey road studios !! Loved the apartment - it very spacious, beautifully decorated immaculately clean and you have thought of everything. It is very private and we loved sitting on our terrace quaffing wine in the glorious spring sunshine ! Locaton great - easy access to central - but also super easy for far -- we went to Kew Gardens and punting in richmond - recommend that !! -- If you want to experience london feeling like a londoner and not a tourist then this is the place -- we will be back for sure.

Owner response:Yes - this is a great little area as we are central enough to explore the mainstream sights as well as being what I would call "real London" where Londoners like to hang out - so I think you get the best of both worlds !!. There is soooo much to see and do in London I sometimes think we need to write an alternative guide to London which lists all those wonderful places that are not necessarily on the beaten track, but give a real feel of london such as your chosen Abbey road studios -- just round the corner from here - Who doesn't want to walk barefoot across the zebra crossing aka the Fab Four ---- indeed Paul McCartney still lives a stones throw from the studios ! Kew-( think gardens and victorian conservatories); Richmond - (Rivers, Royal parks Hampton Court , & Mick Jagger !!!) Hampstead - ( Wonderful Heath, Open Air Concerts, residences of the rich and famous past and present) , Wembley Stadium ( football - need I say more oh yes and rock concerts) , Arsenal Football club, Hoxton ( for those who know their Jazz) The Olympic stadium--- I could go on but I won't --- all super easy from here as our nearest station is not only Bakerloo Line on The London Underground, transecting central London north to south -- it is also on The London Overground a network I think is kept secret from Tourists as it is only shown in a few guide books -- London Overground only has one central London branch line ( we are on it !! ) stopping at Euston - instead it is more suburban linking to other aspects of London -- route maps are available from Transport for London and of course we have some here -- We are therefore really lucky as we have access to both networks right on the door step ! Terrace !! -- ah yes --- just what you need after a long day walking the streets -- dine al fresco, have a barbecue, read a book - even hang out your washing if you fancy !!! --- or as happened earlier this year - build a snowman on it !

Spacious and comfortable but inconvenient location

Guest: Karen W. (Chestnut Hill)
Date of Stay: 03/21/11 Review Submitted: 03/26/11

We spent 4 nights at the Georgian House. It is very spacious and the owner has provided many comforts. It is very clean and well maintained. However, it is not really in Kensington (but over the border in Brent) and the location is a good 30-40 min Tube ride into central London. The surrounding area is not particularly interesting though there is convenient shopping and restaurants. If you want to be easily accessible to the heart of London and tourist attractions, we would not recommend this place. The owners were helpful when they were available though sometimes hard to find.

Owner response:They say "When a man is tired of London he is tired of life, for there is in London all life can afford" - probably even truer now than when it was first uttered over two centuries ago ! The extent of things to see & do in London is phenomenal & as in any city that has evolved & grown from a small medieval walled city to the vast metropolis we have today, the number, type & location of points of interest, things to do, places to eat, shop or just relax is extensive & diverse -- who would want to miss Greenwich, the birthplace of time, of the Naval adventures of Lord Nelson of Nelsons column fame, the Royal Park, Palace & Observatory or Shopping at Harrods. Alternatively what about The British Museum, Madame Tussauds, London Eye, Houses of Parliament, or even Wimbledon Tennis championships. All worthy of your time & interest but all diametrically opposite with regards to their relative positions in London. We believe that key elements for a successful trip to london is to be true to your self - Are you a culture vulture, an adventure seeker, a theatre luvey, a shopaholic or a mix of them all. Do your research - the amount of info available is immense. Then choose accommodation to fit your profile & which has extensive transport links to take you to the centre & the four corners of London and back again We have phenomenal transport links - we are on the Bakerloo line which transects London north to south with stops at Little Venice, Paddington (Heathrow express), Baker street (Madame tussauds), Regents park, Oxford circus (shop till you drop), Piccadilly circus (theatreland, Royal Academy, China town), Charing cross (Covent garden, National gallery, trafalgar square), Waterloo (London Eye, Houses of Parliament, Aquarium) and beyond . As a rule of thumb they say journey times are 2 minutes per stop. So 10mins to Paddington, 16 to oxford st & 20 to the London eye - or use the Lord Mayors Transport for London info to plan journeys and calculate journey times. We are also on London Overground which connects direct to places such as Richmond, Kew and Stratford for the Olympic stadium. Plus two bus network hubs which link all over London. We are regularly used to house visiting scientists for a famous London museum specialising in the Natural world, not just because of the quality accommodation we offer but because transport is quick and easy Finally you can always use what Londoners call Boris Bikes, or even rent a car from the local car club !

I hope that you felt that we left the flat in good condition and that we were respectful of the property as we would love to come and stay at the Georgian House again in the near future. Best days in London

Guest: Anja (Ljubljana, Slovenia)
Date of Stay: 01/03/11 Review Submitted: 09/03/11

Me and my husband spent three moths at Laura & David's place and enjoyed each single day. When we had to leave it felt like almost leaving home. Laura&David with their cute kids are a really pleasant couple, very helpful and a good company for chats in the evenings. The apartment was very spacious, comfortable and neatly arranged. We were surprised to find everything we needed from an iron to owen and dishwasher. We liked the big, well arranged bathroom. One very good thing was the fast traffic connection to the centre (direct bus, london over&underground). Another was the vicinity of a big supermarket. On the weekends we enjoyed walks & running at the nearby canal or Queens park.Without any second thoughts we would choose to stay at their place again.

Dear Laura & David, we would like you to know that our stay at your Georgian House was very comfortable, relaxing and above it felt like a home away from home!!! Its location is ideal for families who want to experience the joyful and cosmopolitan London but need also the quiet and peacefulness of a remote neighborhood away from the big city centre. You have done an excellent job restoring the Georgian House and I am sure you are very proud of it. Next time we come to London we know exactly where we will be staying.

Our family of 4 stayed here Mar. 26 - Apr. 2, 2010. The flat was everything stated in the listing. Laura and David were very helpful. They even took pity on our children, who refused to sleep on the flight from the US to London, and let us check-in a little early. E-mail communication was very good. Location was terrific for us, close to tube station and bus stops, walked to Portabello market, good restaurants within walking distance. Supermarket is short walk away. Definitely would recommend this property to anyone looking to experience UK living not just staying in a hotel. We would stay here again without question.

We stayed at The Georgian House in February 2009 and could not have made a more perfect choice for our London trip. It's not often that something exceeds expectations, but The Georgian House certainly does! From our first email to Laura, we knew we had made the right choice. She patiently answered all questions and arranged for airport pickup for us. When we couldn't find the driver at the airport, Laura called him for us and all was well. Laura and David have thought of everything their guest might need. We were greeted with a lovely hamper with jam, coffee, tea, butter, bread, wine, etc. that made the first morning stress free, as we already had our "provisions"! The apartment is beautifully furnished and decorated and totally immaculate. Traveling with a child, we especially found the washer and dryer useful. There is a full kitchen, local restaurant menus, and every guide book you could think of. Even the floors are heated which is lovely in the cold weather. Upstairs you will find a computer for guest use, with Ipod connectors, skype, a cell phone you may borrow; in short, everything you may want has already been anticipated and taken care of. The Georgian House is just a short walk away from the nearest tube station and about a 25 minute ride into central London. It's also just a stroll to many restaurants, Portobello Road and a grocery. Laura and David cheerfully answered every question we had and even accepted delivery of a pizza for us one night, when we were just too tired to go out. Believe all the positive reviews about the Georgian House and the pictures as wonderful as they are, do not do this stunning property justice. We travel quite a bit, and usually don't go back to the same place twice, but I would absolutely love to return to The Georgian House.

Dear laura and david. I meant to leave a little thank you note when i left but we just walked out without thinking !.We really enjoyed our time at your flat. I really marveled every day at your orchids and other greenery. We felt very cozy and tucked away surrounded by beautiful, well crafted objects and paintings living and non-living. It was a fabulous experience. The website for 2 for 1 deals is daysoutguide.co.uk. I printed out the coupons before we came but i have read they are also in the info racks at major rail stations. If you run across those brochures at a rail station you could just have them in your flat since Kensal Green travelcards qualify for the discount. I think in the 3 full days that we bought travelcards it saved us about 50 pounds or so. We hope all goes well with the birth of your third babe ! ! ! best regards, Julie, Shannon and Casey

Our family (two adults and two teens 16 and 18) spent four fabulous days this past June in this incredible two level apartment. The apartment, which was recently renovated, is well appointed and very tastefully decorated. The apartment’s owner’s, Laura and David, live in the adjacent home and were not only great hosts but very helpful and extremely enjoyable. The location is absolutely superb. The Tube station (Kensal Green) is but a 5 min. walk which puts London at your doorstep. You can also take the local double-decker bus two blocks away for a scenic 20 min. route to downtown London traveling through some of London’s best neighborhoods. A great local supermarket is within a 5 min. walk. If you like Thai food, the Two Boys Café - a mere block and a half away - is as authentic Thai as it gets. We enjoyed our stay immensely and will definitely return.

We stayed at the Georgian House during our Honeymoon to Europe in May '08. It was perfectly lovely and David and Laura were gracious hosts! The apartment was so spacious and comfortable! We loved the welcome basket of yummies (though Laura and David couldn't understand why we don't drink alcohol or tea! But we loved the rest of the treats, especially the shortbread cookies!) The doggie Lilly was very sweet, even though she wouldn't let me get the ball from her no matter how hard I pulled! The babies were adorable and very well behaved! My husband quite enjoyed David's vintage MG's in the garage and took some pictures to show our 2 sons since they are both car fanatics. I quite enjoyed the terrace in the morning and evening and would often eat my meals there rather than inside. The bath upstairs was very nice and I loved the oversized shutters covering the window. So clever and I'm on the hunt for some for my own bathroom now! Laura's decorating is impeccable! David and Laura were also an invaluable wealth of information regarding London and helped us devise our "tourist plan" for the 3 days we spent in London Proper. They even invited us into their own kitchen and we watched Laura prepare their dinner while David gave us the "Brief History of London", and Laura gave him grief for doing so! It was fabulous! FYI, we purchased the "London Pass" online in advance (the only way you can) and it was a great deal. We loved having our transportation taken care of and it allowed us to see most of the major tourist sites for free. We didn't even mind the trip in on the tube for many reasons: It gave us a chance to make sure we knew where we were headed for the day; it is very well-marked and easy to manuevre; it really was only about 15 minutes into town, depending on the stops necessary; AND it's fun to people watch! One of the excursions that they suggested for our day of arrival was to walk the canal down to "Little Venice", which we loved. The major supermarket was only a 5-10 minute walk and so we went each day to get our juice and some of the items we cooked for dinner most nights. It was very convenient and allowed us to do our own cooking as we are not very adventerous eaters! When it came time to leave, Laura arranged a cab for us and when we discovered that we were "out of cash", she gave us enough to cover the trip to the rail station and then just took it from our deposit so she saved the day! We would highly recommend st

This is a terrific place to stay. My wife and I were there with our 4 and 6 year old boys for 3 nights. Laura and David have a young family too, and were warm, relaxed, and hospitable. The apartment had plenty of space, and a small stock of grownup and kid-friendly DVDs helped the boys unwind after a day of tourism. All the other comments on the site characterize this well! I'd only note that it is a good 25 minutes on the tube till you get to the central tourist areas of London. The New York analogy would be Park Slope in Brooklyn -- another lovely place a half-hour by subway from Midtown. A fine place!

My husband and I stayed at this lovely apartment while visiting our daughter. Although it was a little ways from the center of London it was comforting to come back, after a short underground trip to this wonderful oasis. There was nothing that was overlooked from the welcome basket of thoughtful provisions, the comfortable bed and linens, the tasteful and immaculate space, the availabilty of Laura and David's assistance with any questions, to the assurance of privacy. I wouldn't hesitate for a moment to recommend this apartment to anyone. Laura and David, many thanks for a memorable stay! Maggie and Ed

Having lived in London for several years, we were really looking forward to finding a home away from home close to our old neighborhood and we found it at David and Laura's beautiful Georgian House. Everything was perfect; lovely welcome basket, beautiful furnishings/decor and almost unheard of in London, 5 GBP per day car parking with free weekends! The bus and tube are both very close by and there are many shops, restaurants and a large supermarket within walking distance. A very nice experience for our first time back to London as "visitors"...we'll see you again soon!

Hi Laura,I just wanted to thank you very much for making my parents stay so enjoyable. The Georgian House is without a doubt the nicest stay away from home that they have experienced and it seemed that every little thing had been thought of and the décor and cleanliness of the house was outstanding.Since you were unable to accommodate them for the whole of their stay, they spent their last 2 nights in London at **************** and it was a very decadent experience - everything is really over the top. The room was ok - could have been bigger and considering they were given an upgrade I wondered what the extra benefits were as I would have been disapppointed if the room had been any less than what it was.It was still a really good experience but when they next come down they most definitely want to get booked in with you at The Georgian House again. Many thanks again for everything Laura and wishing you and the family a very merry Christmas and New Year.Best wishes,Catherine Catherine SutherlandTeam Administrator RNIB Talk and Support

This is truly an exceptional find in London. Rather than repeating the same things the prior guests said (which I wholeheartedly agree with) I would like to add, it was walking distance to the Bakerloo line, walking distance to a couple of great restaurants. The hosts were absolutely wonderful and gracious. Immaculate apartment with gorgeous furnishings, wireless internet access (there was even a laptop) DVD's for those days when you really didn't feel like getting out and about. Next time we are in London this would be our top choice without question

The description of the apartment is exactly as stated in other reviews so I won't repeat that info other than to say ditto! It really is fabulous! I'm almost afraid to tell you how wonderful our experience was for fear that everyone should find this lovely place and the calendar will be so full that I won't be able to return! In all truthfulness... this was absolutely one of the highlights of the trip, to have such lovely accommodations! Not only was the apartment spacious, it was also beautiful and very comfortable. Laura and David were so helpful and friendly! We really looked forward to running in to them between our many other planned activities, but if you needed a suggestion, they were always ready with lots of great ideas. It was like having our own personal tour guide! It was (I'm sure) a rare find to stay in a beautiful apartment attached to a lovely single home and with easy access to the tube. We enjoyed the use of the kitchen for breakfast each morning and even had occasion to use the washer dryer. Oh... and I almost forgot to say how much we enjoyed our beautiful welcome basket of goodies... talk about feeling pampered! We enjoyed munching on them throughout the week. In conclusion... all I can say is that if you've never tried a self catering experience before, stay here and you'll never go back to a hotel experience again. Hugs to Laura, David those two babies and Lilly, I still think of you often!

If this is a duplicate comment, sorry but I did not see the comment I thought I had previously submitted. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Georgian House during the first week of April 2007. We were on a speical spring break holiday in honor of our daughter's graduation from high school and Georgian House provided a wonderful home base for our adventures. Both the apartment and the hosts, Laura and David, were a joy. The apartment provided the two adults and teen aged girl enough space, privacy and comfort to make us all very happy. The bath and a half was a wonderful benefit for a family. The kitchen was perfect for our daily breakfasts in. We could easily have made dinners too, but we wanted to try the many wonderful Indian and Tapas restaurants in the neighborhood that Laura and David had told us about. The apartment was both gorgeous and serene. Laura and David made themselves availbale for questions, and ideas about both the neighborhood and London in general and were an invaluable resource that made our stay even more meaningful. They told us about a wonderful path along a canal near Georgian House where we went for our morning runs, we felt like we had been transported to the country side rather being in an urban area. We would stay at Georgian House again without a second thought. You cannot go wrong with either the house or the hosts.

What a find. So rarely do we happen upon such a special place, we're loathe to tell you about it. But here goes. Well, it's on the edge of a residential area only ten minutes walk from the Aladdin's cave that is Portobello Road. You slip in through a side entrance next to the Irwin's house, past the immaculate, showpiece garage with gleaming, vintage MG sports cars and into a courtyard whose rich red walls and decking floor are more Mediterranean than West London. On one side of this courtyard, through a vast chunky modern door, lies serenity itself. Spread over two levels, this annexe-cum-maisonette is a testament to Laura's design restraint. She has pulled off that rare trick of combining antiques rummaged from the market with the best of contemporary. Downstairs, an impeccable modern kitchenette shares a room with a sumptuous new sofa, antique cinema chair and flatscreen TV. Buddha heads, vast gilt mirrors, a chaise long and old bureau, hiding a stereo, computer and wireless internet box. Sit on the lofty, bright landing that doubles as a second living area. Vast wood and glass doors pull right back to reveal a decking terrace that looks out over the courtyard. Wonderful for summer evenings. The bedroom feels as if it belongs in a plantation house. It's bright, breezy and a million miles from the mad world outside. The place is truly special.
