The moment we opened the door we fell in love with this beautiful apartment. It is just as you see...a beautiful loft style with original details left when the apartment was updated. The details are gorgeous and work so well with the incredible wood beams all over the space. Walking distance from so many restaurants and shops as well as Notre Dame which is extraordinary. The kitchen is done with stainless appliances and everything that you need is at your fingertips. One night we invited friends over and they were very impressed. We just sat around and drank great wine and enjoyed every minute of the evening. I would recommend this apartment to anyone. We loved it!

The property was easy to fin, and ther is a parking very close. This is a property with the romantic char of the old construction and équiped with the modern equipment we needed. Every thing was clean and equipes with good quality furniture. The ownwr puted us in contact with Delta, the hosekeeper, who was werry helpfull. It so well located, we neve touched the car during ouer stay, we did all walking. Ther are so many restaurent, so close... But the property is so well equiped that we tooked mor diners in. We tooked a lot of pictures to show to ouers friends. If you want a experience, don't miss it.
Owner response:Thank you Maurice! I knew you would enjoy it. I have tried to make it very comfortable and homey with an elegant flair. Glad you appreciated it.

Thank you so very much Dawne for letting your amazing loft to us - everything was just perfect - the location was ideal, the ambience and amenities of the loft were wonderful and we could not have had a better stay. Dealing with you was so easy, with your warmth, friendly and agreeable nature and attentiveness - thank you for making my husband's 40th Birthday celebration such a huge success. We look forward to returning again (hopefully) this year! Highly recommended!!!!! All our best, Lisa & Adham
Owner response:Thank you, Lisa an Adham! We look forward to having you return and I will be happy to offer you a 50% discount for the 1 night you missed due to bad weather conditions for your next booking! All the best, Dawne

Don't stay here unless you are interested in being right in the heart vieux Montreal. Or if you're not into good food like around the corner at the down home Polish restaurant, or Olive and Gourmando, Bacata, and Pyrenees.... Just go someplace else!!! But if you love elegant digs with the romance of stone walls and heavy wooden beams, Euro style rental bikes on the corner, the creaky steps of a second story walk up, a very comfy bed and a very nice kitchen you will likely not bother using, then this is the place. Book it now and experience some well deserved bliss. Thanks Dawne.
Owner response:Thankyou! It is possible experience then and now. Cheers, Dawne

Our first experience renting a home instead of a hotel room is going to be hard to top. The condo was clean, quiet, beautiful and in a perfect location. The kitchen, dining, living room and bedroom were all large and nicely furnished. My wife wanted to rent this unit over some others based on the pictures and reviews and she was not disappointed (believe me, not always an easy accomplishment!). It was unexpectedly warm while we were there in late September so although we didn't get to enjoy the cozy fireplace like we were looking forward to, we were pleasantly surprised to find air conditioning, which we used briefly in the evenings. This upstairs (one flight, fairly steep) unit is on a quiet corner and noise was never an issue. We knew nothing of Montreal regarding locations/attractions and this condo is in a fantastic location. Shops, resturants, downtown, Metro, the port attractions are all right there within easy walking distance. Just head out the door turn right or left and you are strolling through picturesque old Montreal with resturants and shops everywhere. Not to mention the must-see Museum of Archeology right across the street (do not miss this if you are a first time Montreal visitor) and handy Bixi station around the corner! We Bixi-biked and walked most of the time, only took two taxis and the Metro once in 4 days and we covered a lot of Montreal! Our son now lives in Montreal (McGill student) and he showed us some places a little more off the beaten track, primarily in the Plateau district. Anywhere you go in old Montreal/old Port on foot you will find wonderful places for coffee and pastries (le Communion, Olive & Gourmondo) and dinner resturants, they are absolutely everywhere. But for a little more "bohemian" feel here are a couple of real finds: Aprepera du Plateau for Venezualan (incredible lunch), Chez Jose for afternoon fruit smoothies, espresso, and fantastic pastries, stroll on rue St Denis - the whole area is full of resturants and shops. Have a gourmet bison hamburger at Le Hachoir (st Denis). Reserving the unit, correspondence and phone calls with Dawne were all easy and prompt. We never had a need for the local contact. This is a wonderful place to rent and my wife and I look forward to returning.
Owner response:Thanks very much! Great restaurant tips also! Cheers and hope to see you back soon, Dawne

My wife, 15-month-old and I stayed here recently and enjoyed the apartment immensely. It was clean, well-maintained and furnished with everything you'd need: comfortable bedding (in the bedroom, which is a separate room), a portable crib, solid kitchenware, music, books (including travel and history books on Montreal), DVDs, games, enjoyable artwork, washer/dryer, dishwasher, linens and towels. You'll appreciate the historic exposed stone, casement windows and original wood beams throughout. The apartment sits within steps of the exact spot of Montreal's founding, toward the end of a quiet, leafy square in Old Montreal, near Rue de la Commune, which runs along the port and river. It's central to the museum of archeology and history, St-Paul, Notre Dame Basilica, Place D'Armes, Place Jacques Cartier and all the splendors of Old Montreal. The nearest Metro stop is 10 minutes away on foot. Warning for less mobile folks: the apartment is one story up, and the steps are somewhat steep. We didn't have any trouble, even toting a stroller (ours) up and down with a baby in arm. Dawne is a terrific host. She's not always local herself but she'll give you nearby contacts, which, in a pinch, could help. (We didn't need to rely on them.) The apartment will soon sit above an ice-cream shop, which is being restored beautifully downstairs. Needless to say, we'll be back, we hope many times.
Owner response:Kevin and Leigh, You are gems and will always be welcomed back. Your daughter will in some times remember her vacations in Montreal as young as she is...I always do 30 years past! Great times! Cheers, Dawne

A top choice for staying in Old Montreal. Walking distance to restaurants, museums, jazz clubs and the water front. Very cozy and comfortable. The apartment is as tasteful in person as it appears in the photos. Perfect for a romantic getaway to a marvelous city. Looking forward to returning!
Owner response:Thanks, Dwight! please come back again. Regards, Dawne

The most perfect setting in all of the city, inside and out. I can't imagine a better apartment or a better owner, Dawne. Every part of my experience was better than expected. I hedge writing this because I want it to stay as my little secret for future trips. I will be back soon.

This apartment was above and beyond our expectations! The photos truly did not do it justice. Upon arriving, we found a clean, tidy and complete apartment with everything we could need from towels, to wine glasses to laundry unit to a lovely music selection on the stereo. The working fireplace was just perfect after a long day in snowy montreal. The location of this apartment is perfect for taking a walking tour of old Montreal. Walking distance from ATMs, Grocery store and sites to see. I will most certainly stay again and recommend this lovely apartment to friends and family. (If I had to move to montreal...I would want to live here. That is how fantastic this place is!)

We stayed for the New Year's holiday 2010 and couldn't have had a better location. The place is as charming as it looks on the website. Dawn was an excellent and attentive host, the reservation went without a hitch. The fireplace added a nice touch, and the interior was relaxed and comfortable feeling. It was a great spot to curl up and read a book in bad weather. Upon our arrival the apartment smelled of cigarette smoke, but this cleared after opening the windows and didn't affect our overall experience.

My husband, young daughter and I have stayed in Dawne's gorgeous loft in Old Montreal 3 times. We love it. The apartment itself is a stylish but warm and very comfortable place, with all those authentic loft touches. And we love the location - so many restaurants, bars, cafes, sights and things to do just outside the door. There are simply great coffee, breakfast and lunch places nearby (Olive & Gourmando, Garde-Manger, Titanic) and the old port of this fabulous city has a completely unique atmosphere. Would recommend this apartment to anyone without hestitation. Book it if you can!

Hi Dawne: Just a short note to tell you that we really enjoyed our stay at La Maison Berthelet. The apartment was really quaint - the stone walls - the beamed ceilings - the lighting really created an atmosphere that would be very difficult to duplicate elsewhere. Googling la Maison Berthelet's history added to the appreciation, charm and enjoyment! What a great location!! It was all we had hoped for and more. We've stayed at several VRBO places throughout in Europe, but none were as completely well furnished or as completely supplied as your apartment. We will certainly tell our friends about your Montreal apartment should any wish to visit the city. Thanks again for making your apartment available. Best regards, Stan Hawryluck

Our time spent at La Maison Berthelet surpassed our expectations. The decor is so tasteful and welcoming. Everything about this place was pleasant. The location is perfect. We are familiar with Montreal and just wanted to come back and visit and this was surely a better choice than staying in a hotel. We dined in more than expected because we just loved being there. The comfort level was outstanding. As others have posted on their comments, the owner was a delight to deal with. We hope to return in the future. Anne

my wife and I enjoyed our 3 days in old montreal at this apartment. the flat is clean, big, and convenient. We were 4 blocks to the metro, and less than 3 blocks from great restaurants and shops. The bed was big and comfortable. the bathroom was clean and stocked. the kitchen was small, but in good shape. it included a washer/dryer which can come in handy.

We could not have chosen a better place to stay in Montreal! We chose to not rent a car and walked everywhere and are sooo happy with that decision. The best way to see Old Montreal is on foot. The location was perfect for some of the best restaurants, shopping and even the bike rental place (which we highly recommend) was a block and a half. We loved falling asleep each night to the clip clap of the horse carriages below. We look forward to coming back soon and miss it there already.

We stayed during the International Jazz Fest with our two daughters. The loft is quite lovely and was absolutely perfect for our needs. The apartment is ideally located near many fabulous restaurants in Old Montreal. We parked our vehicle upon arrival and drive only once to visit Parc Safari. We walked to Chinatown, nearby markets, the festival, underground shopping, and the most popular tourist attractions with great ease. We loved the unique blend of old-world charm, modern conveniences and lots of sunlight in an excellent corner location. My daughters were very comfortable and despite it's cozy size there was ample room in the apartment for everyone to have personal space. The washer and dryer were great for traveling with a preschooler and the compact kitchen contained everything we needed within arm's reach. An added bonus was the stellar music collection available to guests. We were thrilled with our stay and are only disappointed the apartment is not available to us in August when we return. We highly recommend this unique residence for your stay. Thank you for sharing your home with us!

Charming, elegant, rustic and perfectly located in heart of Old Montreal. We went in the winter and it was perfect, and there is a nice bakery up the steet for a morning walk and bakery pick up. Fire place adds a cozy winter touch. Owner was extremely pleasant. A definate gem.
