Playa Grande Casitas is a very tranquil property that's great for families, couples and groups. We offer a more affordable and spacious alternative to hotel rooms, and are walking distance to everything. Playa Grande Casitas is located in the exclusive Palm Beach Estates section of Playa Grande, and is within strolling distance of the beach, estuary, restaurants, mini-grocery, and the tip of the peninsula where a ponga can be hailed to ferry you across the mouth of the estuary to Tamarindo.
This eclectic enclave of accommodations is built under the canopy of an old growth grove of giant Guanacaste trees whose dappled shade provides a comfortable poolside environment... especially after a long day in the sun.
Playa Grande Casitas are basic yet simply adorable and comfortable. Each Studio has a queen sized bed as well as a day bed that doubles as a couch. The open beam teak wood ceilings add a sense of warmth to the Studios, and a wall of built-in teak shelving, drawers and hanging closet provide ample storage space. Each Studio has an open air kitchenette on the veranda, complete with everything you need, including a full 3/4 size refrigerator / freezer for groceries and a coffee maker. There is indoor dining for two, and open air dining for four. The bathrooms have large walk in showers (yes... hot water!), and of course we provide an oversized safe box to hold all your electronics.
The grounds outside are immaculate... with blanco pedra ground cover and flagstone walking paths with accent lights for night time safety. The sparkling blue tiled pool is one of the nicest in Playa Grande... with an oversized natural flagstone patio and plenty of teak poolside furniture. Ask Carlos to break out the Gas Grill for a poolside BBQ!
Playa Grande Casitas is the perfect place for destination weddings, particularly for the budget conscious. Echange vows on the beach at sunset, then wander back to the property for a catered open air dinner and poolside dancing. Your entire wedding party will want to come back for your anniversary!
I'd also like to mention that we've made a significant investment in a state-of-the-art security system and over sized lock boxes which can hold all your electronics. Our security system includes both indoor and outdoor perimeter zones (away and sleep modes) which not only alarms, but also calls our Property Manager's cell phone, who just a stones through down the road and is able to respond within minutes. And all the locals know it, so we don't have any worries about petty theft or otherwise at Playa Grande Casitas. Security really should be an important consideration when choosing your accommodations.
You can probably find a place for a bit less in Playa Grande, but you won't find a better value. You will be comfortable and have peace of mind staying at Playa Grande Casitas. We hope that you will consider staying at Playa Grande Casitas.... but if not, be sure to experience Playa Grande. You'll be glad you did... Playa Grande is special! Be sure to view the entire photo gallery and let the pictures speak for themselves.

Why the Owner Chose Playa GrandePlaya Grande is a special place... and I realized this when I first set foot upon it. One month later, and I was under contract to purchase Playa Grande Casitas. It's where I want to be... in the middle of a national park, beautiful beach, flora and wildlife... and plenty of building restrictions so that this sanctuary will not be over built.

We are experiencing serious post trip withdrawal, which means we had a really great time in Costa Rica! Manfred and the casitas are a winning combination. Our group of 4 had a 1 bedroom apartment and a studio, and we were very pleased with both. The value is excellent. The rooms are just as described, if not better. The fresh wood smell is one thing you can not see in the pictures. Clean and comfortable, well equipped, safe, great location... etc. The pool is always sparkling clean and refreshing and the beach is a short walk away. The casitas are in the Palm Beach estates more towards the south end of playa grande which has a less crowded surf break, and is walkable to the main break of playa grande, or even the tamarindo rivermouth. Manfred and his wife are great people and provided instant assistance with anything we needed... not to mention fresh baked bread one morning, and a beautiful dinner on our last night. Can't say enough, we had a wonderful time and would highly recommend!
Owner response:Hi Vinny! Glad you enjoyed your vacation! We hope to see you again!

We traveled Costa Rica quite a bit during our 3 week vacation. Playa Grande Casitas was one of the the most charming, comfortable and affordable accommodations we found. We stayed in the upper one bedroom apartment and spent most mornings relaxing on the veranda, enjoying our coffee with the Howler Monkeys that frequented the Guanacaste trees. The nice thing about this property is that it is nestled in a national park so there are plenty of birds and wildlife. After travelling to many parts of the country it was a welcome escape from the hustle, bustle and dusty roads of the busier tourism areasm and if you've ever travelled Costa Rica, you'll know how wonderful it is to have a hot shower, clean accommodations and the homey feeling, not offered by hotels. The walk-in shower at Playa Grande Casitas is wonderful! The property owner was extremely helpful with answering our questions and Manfred, the property manager, made us feel very welcome and went out of his way to make sure we had everything we needed and were comfortable. The pool was a delight and always sparkling clean. And the grounds were very well kept and beautifully landscaped. We loved the fact that just a short walk down the dirt road were two quaint little restaurants and a nearby little grocery store so we could get some supplies whenever we needed to, without having to use the car. Besides the security system at the casitas there are security guards from dusk to dawn at Palm Beach Estates, which made us feel very safe, especially heading home at night. We left the interior lights in our vehicle on one night and they came to find us to let us know. I'm so glad we found this property. We'll definitely be returning again next year. Roger

as Costa Rica we are used to travel around the country visiting many off the beaten path sites, the Casitas at Playa Grande is a favorite of us for its location and conditions. it in perfect balance with the National Park nearby and with the low development high end kind of toursim that Costa Rica needs. the prices are very good attention was excellent.

Better than the photos and the best property on all of Playa Grande by far. When I arrived I was pleasantly surprised by how beautiful the unit (I had the upper apt.) was and magnificent the grounds were as well. The pool and landscaping were a sheer delight and the property manager, Manfred, is there to attend to any need plus he and his wife operate a German bakery out of their home and their croissants and baguettes alone are worth the stay! The beach is close by and within a short (lovely) walk you can catch a panga (local little boat) to Tamarindo and enjoy every water activity from surfing to kayaking, scuba diving and snokeling to jet skis to beachside massages. The big supermarket is in Tamarindo and easy to get to and there's a quaint little one within a 1 min. walk from your casita. If you want to see monkeys, there was a family of 8 of them living in the tree you see in the picture right on the property. Best in the early morning (5:30a.m.) and you'll have wonderful response from any request necessary. Great dinners at Hotel Bula Bula right nearby or for a private dinner, hire Manfred (also the property manager) who is one of the best personal chefs ever (I live in Chicago and have dined on Charlie Trotter's personal menu in his kitchen; Manfred's dinner was better).

We spent 11 nights in the upper 1 bedroom apartment at Las Casitas in Feb. 2011. and had a wonderful time. The accomadation was great, just like the pictures only better. Bed was comfy, bathroom is large, kitchen has what you need and there is even a bbq that we used a couple of nights. We ate most of our meals on the balcony so we could enjoy the scenery. Macaws, iguanas, howler monkeys there was always something to watch. Property is well cared for and very clean. Playa Grande is a great beach. Did lots of swimming and had no trouble with currents or undertows. Tried surfing which was lots of fun but probably 25 years too late for me. Tamarindo for groceries was only a short drive away or take a boat acroos the estuary for a couple of bucks and walk to the store. There is a small store just a couple of hundred meters away for when we ran out of beer or mix but we did most of our shopping at Tamarindo. Dinner at Rip Jack Inn was great and we caught the live entertainment 1 night and that was a bonus. All in all a wonderful vacation and we have been telling our friends and family that they should check this place out. Definetly looking forward to returning.

My husband and I stayed in the apartment in January 2011 and absolutely loved it! The grounds were maintained beautifully and the place was super clean and peaceful. The kitchen and bathroom were modern. Just a 5 minute walk to playa grande. The pool was amazing and received lots of sun in the morning... the perfect time for a tan! Gorgeous wildlife and sounds all around. We would do it again in a heartbeat!!!
