Another great review... We were delighted to find such a wonderfully well-maintained and private home for us to stay during the first few days of our honeymoon. We would go back in heartbeat.

What can we say? Beautiful views, comfortable, clean, and well equipped! Private and yet next to grocery and amenities. We loved it! Great location from which to explore Cape Breton. Darryl and Kathy were friendly, accessible, and helpful.

I just came back from a week-long family vacation in Neil's Harbour where I stayed at the Mighty Blue Cottage. We all had a wonderful time. The cottage is clean, comfortable and very well-equiped. It has everything one needs, from barbecue to binoculars to watch the ocean! It is both central (a few steps from the co-op and the harbour, with its restaurants and even a whale watching cruise tour) and private, which was very important to us since we went there to take a break from the noise of the city. The cottage is right in front of the ocean: incredible view and sunsets! It is perfectly located, which allowed us to fully visit Cape Breton Island, from Ingonish to Cheticamp and of course, the national park. Kathy and Darryl are very nice and helpful. Always available for us. I highly recommend it, especially for family gatherings or romantic gateways! And I will definitely come back.

We would highly recommend this cottage. The listing description is accurate - it is very clean, comfortable, well maintained and the views and quiet location were the icing on the cake. Darryl and Kathy were very reasonable to deal with and very helpful. We had a great vacation on this gorgeous island and this cottage played an important part in that. Highly recommend the Skyline and Coastal Trails, seeing Louisbourg and the Graham Bell Museum.

Wow! What a Great Find!

Whether it was luck or fate that led us to Neil's Harbour, all my wife and I could say was "Wow!" In need of a place to stay for 3 nights in the midst of Cape Breton Highlands National Park, this cottage (really a house!) was perfect. Immediately next to the Atlantic's waves, it provided terrific views of the ocean, sunrises and the most beautiful full-moonrise we'd ever seen over an ocean. Even during the cool May evenings, we kept a window or two open to just listen to the crashing surf. The location was excellent -- perfectly placed far enough off the main highway for privacy, but easily accessed for the many visits around the park for sightseeing the majestic highlands. The cottage itself was exactly what you would want for a vacation home-base -- full kitchen for cooking your own meals if you want, a private room for two upstairs, and plenty of room downstairs for relaxing, watching tv, playing video games, taking advantage of the speedy wifi and whatever. One of the downstairs rooms has a daybed that could easily be converted to an extra bedroom for one or two adults -- really would be perfect though for a couple of kids. Though it was too cool for us in May to make much use of the deck outside, we thought it would be great during the summer months to just sit, use the grill, drink a beverage, and enjoy watching the world float by. Did we mention the great location and the view? And the final touch was a washer-dryer in the laundry room for that mid-vacation pile of clothes. If we had known before we left home about this added feature, we would have been able to cut the amount of clothes we'd packed in half! One more thing -- your hosts, the managers of the property, are terrific. They were full of helpful information about the community and the people, really aiding us in finding our feet and getting around in a new place. Will we be back? You bet! We highly recommend this to anyone trying to find the perfect location for a getaway to great scenery, great activities, great lobster, and a great place to stay.

Our family of four enjoyed this wonderful beachfront home during the Thanksgiving Weekend. The property is meticulously maintained with all the modern conveniences you might need for your stay. It was so warm and cozy on those chilly, rainy mornings. We look forward to staying there again in the future.

I had a great time. It is my fourth straight year staying in Neal's Harbour, and first time at this place. It was great, and as always Darryl and Kathy were fantastic! Neil's Harbour is one of the gems in Cape Breton that so many tourists overlook. And if you continue up the White Point Rd, the scenery is unbelievable. I like to stay at a place a week at a time to use as a home base, and this place was perfect! It is close to many of my favourite spots....Neil's Brook, beulack ban falls, White Point, Meat Cove, Pleasant Bay, and the highlands in general. And you are only about an hr and a half from Cheticamp --- another of my favourite spots. Your house is a great spot, with great views! The skies in Cape Breton are amongst the best in the world..... day and night. Fantastic sunrises right from the deck....and unbelievable stars!!! Very private spot.....I highly recommend it!

Don't be put off by the fact that this house is next to the grocery store. It is set down off the road and is very private. The view is just spectacular, and the sound of the waves is the perfect ending for an active day on Cape Breton. We found the cottage just perfect for our needs. The kitchen is well equipped (although no dishwasher), the small living room is comfortable, looks out to the ocean, and has a slider out onto the deck. The bedroom is quite spacious with its own little deck and plenty of storage space. Indeed, three nights here was simply not enough. Perfectly situated it is a forty minute drive to the most popular hiking trails in the park (including the "many moosed" spectacular Skyline trail. But do not leave out the trails that are just minutes away (the gorgeous coastal trail and the Jigging Lake trail). Also, be sure to drive a few minutes to White point (especially when the wind is right) for a truly wild and spectacular view. If the wind isn't too strong hike out to the old graveyard at the very tip of the point. For dinner out, we's recommend the Main Street Restaurant and Bakery in Ingonish. The menu is varied, the food is great, and the value is excellent. But overall, this is a place where you would be quite content to cook in and enjoy the ocean just steps from your door. Everyone at the rental office was helpful and gracious. I wish we could go back tomorrow.

Private, Oceanfront Cottage Made for the Perfect Holiday

Guest: Kate (Delaware/USA)
Date of Stay: 08/20/10 Review Submitted: 08/29/10

We just returned from a wonderful vacation to Cape Breton Island where we spent 5 nights at the gorgeous oceanfront Mighty Blue. The cottage was impeccably clean, comfortable, and homey. Outside, there was a private rear yard where our toddler could run around and explore the grounds and wildlife-- including the resident bunny who came to visit daily. We enjoyed eating outside at the picnic table, taking in the breathtaking ocean view and crisp sea air, and using the cottage binoculars to scan for whales (unfortunately we didn't see any!) The grocery store next door has basic food items, as well as wine/beer, which we found difficult to find in other parts of Nova Scotia. There is also a seafood market across the street, where we purchased lobster and scallops (both frozen but extremely fresh and delicious). Luckily we had only one half-day of rain, but for those stuck inside at the Mighty Blue, there is a TV with loads of channels, a DVD player, board games, and a comfortable sitting area. The master bedroom upstairs is spacious with a half-bath and balcony- perfect for stargazing (telescope provided). The only thing that we would want to alert other guests about is that this cottage has just one private bedroom. The other "bedroom" is in the front room of the house where you enter. It's right beside the staircase and has no door. This made it hard for us to be downstairs while our daughter slept... Lucky for us, the weather was too beautiful to be inside, so we spent our evenings out back, and the sleeping arrangement was fine. We highly recommend this cottage to others and hope to be back one day!

Spent several nights there this summer when someone else had cancelled at the last minute. Loved the cottage, the comfort and solitude of the place, yet proximity to town and grocery store. Perfect place for exploring the park or driving to Meat Cove. Hosts could not have been nicer. Highly recommend!

The Best Place for a Honeymoon!

Date of Stay: 07/19/10 Review Submitted: 08/04/10

I just want to take a moment to say THANK YOU to Kathy, Darrell, and Chuck. This place is amazing. The view is spectacular, the cottage so clean, peaceful and surreal and the people of Nova Scotia make you feel like you are family. Waking up to the soft crashing of waves just 75 ft outside the bedroom glass doors, or looking over the top of my book while in the recliner in the living room only to see a whale surfacing less than 100 ft offshore, or enjoying the two mature bald eagles that spent 2 days out on our back rocks, yeah it was that AMAZING! Kathy and Darrell stopped at nothing to make us feel welcome and they proved that with the lobsters and the snow crabs as just the icing on the cake. Our only problem with the cottage and Neil's Harbour was ... leaving. Looking forward to our 1 year anniversary up there. I will highly recommend this vacation to anyone wanting to get away from the monotony and blur of the everyday rat race.

I am the owner of the property you are interested in. I can't figure out why there aren't more comments posted on this site. We have a guest book on the property and it is filled cover to cover with glowing comments. Maybe that's all the guests think they should do or maybe they have had trouble getting on the site. I have had some problems with this myself. I hope you will stay with us. I'm sure you will have a great time. And while you are there take a look at the guest book.

The cottage was just perfect. It is nicely furnished with comfortable furniture for relaxing the day away. The kitchen is very well equipped for those who wish to cook while on vacation. Very private setting makes it feel as if you are miles away from anyone else, but in fact, the grocery store is right next door. Very convenient to the Cabot Trail. The property managers will acquire and cook lobsters for you upon request at a reasonable price. They are very helpful with information about the area.

A perfect, secluded little house with all the amenities except Internet access, which can be had for free at nearby Ingonish Library. All is fresh and clean, with great attention to detail--binoculars and telescope provided for watching the lobster boats and the birds from the upper or lower balcony. It was wonderful to wake up to the crash of the surf just a few yards away. Strongly recommend the Main Street Restaurant in Ingonish for wonderful chowder, calimari, desserts. Kathy, Darryl and Ron are wonderful hosts--attentive but never intrusive. Soul-restoring--we plan to return!
