Location: Cohasset, South of Boston, Massachusetts, USA (20 miles south of Boston, 42 miles north of Cape Cod)

Twenty room 1890's Ocean Front Italian Villa. One of the finest coastal properties on Boston's North or South shore.

The house sits on a point of land at the mouth of Cohasset's "Little Harbor". The location is quiet and secluded and surrounded by the ocean on three sides. Two acres of landscaped lawns, flowering trees and shrubs, and a private beach great for swimming and boating activities right below the house. A row boat is included with the rental.

The Town of Cohasset was discovered by Captain John Smith in 1614. With a population of just over 7,000 today, the town has retained its charm as a New England seaside village with a quiet main street with many boutique shops and restaurants and an active harbor. The Commuter Rail station is five minutes away and provides easy access to Boston's South Station in 43 minutes.

ONLY TWO WEEKS OPEN SUMMER 2009: July 4th and July 18th. REDUCED RENTAL RATE is now $5,500. AFTER Sept 1, 2009 property is BOOKED into 2011.

  • My husband, 4 year old son, 2 1/2 year old daughter, small dog very much enjoyed our stay at the Big House. The house is gorgeous and very welcoming. We did everything, from preparing gourmet feasts in the huge kitchen and professional Viking stove, to just hanging out with the children at the beach or side and front yards. It was so peaceful and relaxing. The owners prepared a wonderful binder with information about the house, the community, special events, tourist information and more importantly --local eateries! They were very thoughtful. We hope to rent again in the year to do some more relaxation and fun.

  • My group of 12 stayed at the Big House on the weekend of May 12 for 2 nights. The property is absolutely amazing; the environment is amazing. It is set right on the ocean. Going to sleep listening to the waves was surreal. The house was absolutely huge and provided more than enough space for our party. The front lawn is a good size, as we had an intense wiffle ball tournament. The Tower Room is a great hang out room at night. It offers amazing views of the ocean. I can't stress enough how awesome our experience was. If you have the opportunity to get a reservation here, take it. You will not be sorry. Our group hopes to make this an annual meeting spot for years to come. The owners were great; they were very kind and offered great advice on things to do. My only regret was not renting it for a longer period of time.

  • Literally, we searched through hundreds of properties! finally, we set up the weekend to look at our top 5. We arrived at this house and cancelled all of our other appointments. This house surpassed our most vivid dreams, for our dream wedding. My initial impression: plenty of space for everyone yet warm, a hardy and accomodating kitchen to gather around, the grounds are exceptionally beautiful (pictures don't do it justice). Is this real? Perfect place for our families to unite and celebrate one of the most important occasions of our lives. I can't wait!

  • When I saw "The Big House" on the web I thought it looked incredible until I actually saw it in person. My fiance and I were speechless. "The Big House" is located at the end of the street and as you drive down the street it seems to rise up in the distance like The Emerald City in The Wizard of Oz. No matter where you are, whether you are on the grounds or in the house, there is a spectacular view. I would highly recommend this property to anyone who is looking for the ultimate summer vacation.
