Harry Truman could have spent his time away from Washington any place he wanted. He chose Key West. Relaxing in his "winter White House", he once wrote, "I’ve a notion to move the capital to Key West and just stay." So many presidential days were enjoyed here that the Officer’s quarters became the "Little White House" and the Naval Station it occupied was renamed the Truman Annex.
