The listing description was accurate, the photos recent, the property welcoming, the owner was very forthcoming with information and tips as was her property manager on site. I'd recommend this charming home to anyone wanting to visit Provence....we visited Aix, Avignon, Arles, drove through north and west hill towns, saw parades, ate great food, drank even better wine....could not have been better. House is perfectly located for exploring this region. I 'd love to come back and stay for a month! Charming and perfect.

Ideal getaway in fabulous Provence

Guest: Harvey R. (-)
Date of Stay: 04/08/12 Review Submitted: 04/24/12

This review is being written towards the end of our delightful 2 week stay in April. The weather has been a little chilly, still the sun shines every day. What a wonderful property that allows you to fully enjoy the sun and nature. The property located in the quaint village of St Cannat is about 20 minutes from Aix and 40 minutes from Marsielle. It was an easy ride from the airport to the village. Parking was quite easy on the nice tree lined street just outside the front door. A beautiful green field and fountain is at your doorstep with tennis courts and a town pool which can be used by guests. Every morning I walk a few short blocks to my favorite local bakery (there are four bakeries in this little village/town) Even though I do not speak French, the people have been so friendly and helpful. It is really incredible how much people have gone out of their way to help me when i have asked for directions, shopped in the local stores etc. St Cannat is an ideal location if you want to visit all of Provence. Most cities and historical places are within an hours drive. The main roads are just outside of town. The road signs are clear. I hardly ever got lost or made a wrong turn. Some of the drivers here are a little reckless, so be careful. Do not take your car in to the center of Marsielle. However a visit to the Vieus Ve Marsielle (the Old Port) was no problem. The house itself is very spacious and comfortable. A kitchen with a new oven (decently sized for a family of 4) gas stovetop and smaller but adequate refrigerator (there is a second smaller refrigerator in an adjoining room if needed) There is also a dishwasher. We find ourselves having breakfast and dinners at home. Why not take advantage of the unbelievably good pasties, cheeses and breads you find at your doorstep. There is a local store in town where you can pick up food essentials. Good for emergency type shopping. Our favorite places to shop are in the local marches (like a farmers or village street market) which are held from around 8-12:30 on different days in different towns. Three spacious bedrooms and two full bathrooms (1 up/1 down). There is a TV room with a lovely adjacent outside patio of the third floor. This is a lovely home, in a great location. I may add that there is a full time property manager (Babette) who lives in town and is available to greet you, answer any questions or address any problems that develop. She has been very helpful. Cant go wrong with this property.

Owner response:I am delighted that you enjoyed your stay at Les Bougainvilliers and that you were able to easily explore Provence. As the south of France becomes more well known and "chic" I continue to appreciate St. Cannat for its location and friendly people. Many guests say that after even just a week they feel a part of this sweet village.

Our wonderful stay in Provence

Date of Stay: 11/11/11 Review Submitted: 11/29/11

Our family just returned from our amazing stay in Provence and reality has sunk in. We can't just walk down the street from this wonderful home in St Cannat to one several boulangerie that we enjoyed so much...one of the many reasons to return. We absolutely loved the home and both Cynthia and Babeth could not have been easier and friendlier to deal with. The home was very warm and had all the amenities we needed for our stay. The view of the fields and the water fountain across the street were beautiful and a great way to start the day along with our morning coffee and fresh croissants. We look forward to revisiting Provence and of course this little gem in St Cannat.

Owner response:I am always so glad to hear comments like this, especially from guests who come "out of season". My central heat IS excellent and the fireplace works like a charm. Winter in St. Cannat is warm and wonderful!

Perfect all the way around

Guest: Georgie (United States)
Date of Stay: 10/08/11 Review Submitted: 12/21/11

We rented this house for seven adults. Our goal was to find a house that let us feel like real villagers. One of us went daily for bread; we shopped at the weekly market, we opened and closed the huge shutters each morning and evening. It was fantastic. The location is perfect for venturing out when needed and it's equally perfect for relaxing and settling in to a little different way of living. Cynthia met us at the house, gave us the overview and then left us alone to enjoy the experience.

Our stay at your place

Guest: ozi friends (Australia)
Date of Stay: 09/24/11 Review Submitted: 10/16/11

Had the most incredible 2 weeks experience staying here. Felt quite at home. Cooked meals at home mostly and followed the french books available. We did have a wonderful meal at Masde Fouchon a km or so out of town. The town St Cannat was just beautiful; quiet and picturesque. Went out each day and discovered alot of the main towns to the west, north west, south and south east. Generally the house had everything we required. The only criticism was that the gas bottle for the stove was a bit too big for an elderly person to lift and there was no spare to fall back on. Suggested that 2 smaller gas bottles would be good.

Owner response:So happy that you two enjoyed your stay ~ you were certainly enthusiastic when I saw you the day of departure. I will never forget how clean and neat you left the house, especially recalling that you cooked several dinners in the kitchen! Thanks also for the excellent suggestion of two smaller gas bottles; the big ones are extremely heavy.

A wonderful June in Provence

Guest: Jo and Jon (Newton, MA)
Date of Stay: 06/04/11 Review Submitted: 08/02/11

The fields of grain come right up against the stone wall across from the house. This spring had been unusually warm and the grain was tall and close to harvest and shimmered in the evening's breeze. It was near the end of our daughter's stay with us, I believe we had gone to Arles that day or was it Cucuron , and the three of us were sitting on the wall next to the fountain after dinner sharing a bottle of the local Rose and enjoying yet another sunset when she turned to us and sighed, “How did you guys ever find this place?” This June was our second stay at Les Bougainvilliers. Our first was a year ago when we stayed for a week with two other couples. We had such a wonderful time that Jo and I decided to come back this June for three weeks. Our daughter and 14 year old grandson joined us for 10 days. The house is spacious, well furnished, has a nice kitchen and is very clean. St. Cannat is a small non-tourist village a ½ hour from Aix, about an hour from most of the villages in the Luberon and 45 minutes from Marseille. We are hoping to return again in the fall of 2012 – still much to see.

Owner response:I certainly look forward to welcoming this lovely family back to Les Bougainvilliers for their third visit!

Perfect Provence home in perfect small village

Guest: Pat (San Francisco, CA USA)
Date of Stay: 04/30/11 Review Submitted: 06/01/11

Four of us rented Les Bougainvilliers for the month of May 2011. It proved to be the perfect location for day trips all over Provence and very accessible to Aix, a beautiful city with wonderful restaurants and markets. When in St. Cannat we walked everywhere and became regulars at the cafes, boulangeries, chacuterie and vegetable/fruit market. We really enjoyed the Wednesday open air market right at the end of our street where we bought chicken, fish, fruit vegetables, bread and got to know the very friendly vendors. At home we enjoyed the charm of the house, cocktails on the rooftop patio, dinners in our courtyard, the barley fields and plane trees and all the modern conveniences. We loved the markets and restaurants in neighboring towns of Rogne and Lambesc including a delightful wine festival. We all agree that we would love to return to 70 Marcel Parraud and treasure our Provence vacation in such a special place.

Owner response:In addition to Les Bougainvilliers itself, two of the highlights of staying here are the village of St. Cannat (a REAL French village as opposed to one directed at tourism) and the proximity to Aix-en-Provence, 15 minutes south. Aix is truly to be savored!

Very comfortable house for our family in central Provence

Guest: altaskier (Maryland)
Date of Stay: 04/17/11 Review Submitted: 05/24/11

Our family of two adults and five children recently enjoyed a short stay at Les Bougainvilliers during spring break. We were all very comfortable in the beautifully maintained, clean, and well-appointed house. Both Cynthia and her housekeeper, Babeth, were very accommodating and helpful. We were able to park our car near the house, and walk to shops in St. Cannat. The view from the house is very peaceful. The house is centrally located for seeing a variety of sights in Provence. Aix is only 20 minutes away, and one of our favorite outings, Chateau de la Barben, is also nearby. We also enjoyed trips to Avignon, Les Baux, Arles, Cassis, Gorge du Verdon, and the Luberon, though these drives were longer. Wish we could have stayed longer! Rent with confidence.

Owner response:It is true that Les Bougainvilliers is a very special house with a perfect location for exploring Provence. In part that is why almost every week in the year is rented, often by guests who have been here before. Merci Beaucoup a Tous!

Idyllic Setting for a Holiday

Guest: Tom C. (Salisbury, CT, U. S. A.)
Date of Stay: 09/18/10 Review Submitted: 10/11/11

Les Bougainevilliers is the perfect setting for day trips in Provence. Cynthia, the owner, was gracious enough to personally greet us upon arrival to explain the workings of the house and offer tips regarding the region. Of course we visited Arles, Avignon and Aix-en-Provence but were most charmed by the Luberon region with its picturesque towns and natural beauty. The house is gorgeous and well equipped....it has Cynthia's personal touches which give it the homey feel that made us comfortable as soon as we walked in.

Owner response:I am delighted that you enjoyed Provence ~ you certainly saw a lot ~ and that you really liked my house. I was pleased to meet all four of you and will welcome you back to Les Bougainvilliers anytime! A bientot!

A perfect place in the heart of Provence

Guest: Jazz (Osijek, Croatia)
Date of Stay: 08/14/10 Review Submitted: 08/31/10

Me and me wife stayed here with another couple. We had a fantastic time in Provence and traveled all around. The house itself is beautiful, it definitely has a soul and truly reflects the spirit of Provence. As an extra bonus, we've really appreciated the free international phone calls and the small laptop with the free internet connection. Beside contacting our family and checking our emails, this also really helped us to book various guided tours and events. Both Cynthia and Babette were most kind, I'd like to thank them here again for their hospitality. About Saint Cannat - we've travelled much and visited a lot of places, but I have to say that Saint Cannat is among my top 3 Provence locations. I can't understand why there are no more tourists there. It's a perfect little village-town, with beautiful old houses and fountains all over the place (one is directly in front of the house). There are few things to compare in life with sitting in cafe at Saint Cannat's central square in the morning, nibbling delicacies from local bakeries, sipping your coffee and simply enjoying Provencal way of life. Whoever invented the phrase "Take it easy", must have had something like this in mind. Beside its beauty, Saint Cannat also proved to be a perfect base for travelling around, only 10 mins drive from Aix, which btw, is one of the most beautiful cities I've ever seen. We’ve also visited Avignon, Arles, St. Tropez, Cassis, Marseilles, St. Remy and other, smaller, but beautiful places like Fontaine-du-Valcluse, Abbaye de Senanque, L’Occitane Cosmetic Factory in Manosque, winery Val Joanis in Pertouis (with its "out of this world" gardens), etc. All these locations are within an hour drive from Saint Cannat (except St. Tropez, which is 2 hours away). Overall, this was a fantastic holiday. I'd recommend this house to everyone who wants to experience the true Provence. P.S. Don't miss the cabaret in Chemins Des Figons. It's a 20 mins drive from Saint Cannat, you need to book in advance, ask about it in the Aix's tourist office.

Warning

Guest: awh (NY,NY, USA)
Date of Stay: 08/01/10 Review Submitted: 10/06/11

Review: "Be warned: While the location is perfect for short trips, the house comfortable and accommodating, the village friendly with swimming pool for children, and Babeth is a treasure, nevertheless, you should be prepared for an inflexible and rigid owner. For example, if you make the mistake of inviting friends or family to visit, even briefly (one of the usual perks of renting a house rather than staying in a hotel), you will be charged for each guest for the full amount of time of your stay and that charge will be conveyed in an extremely unpleasant and abrasive fashion ("pay up today or leave immediately"), and children, even as young as briefly visiting 4 yr. olds, count as adults. Note too that most of the effusive comments on this site are "posted by owner." So, enjoy, but do so at your own risk as that enjoyment will depend on your tolerance for bad manners and unanticipated minor conflict. (And note carefully the potential for that in the long list of do and don'ts that accompany your rental.)

Owner response: My web site states an extra charge for more than 5 people, and that we accommodate a maximum of 8. This individual rented my house for 2 weeks, stating there would be 6 people, and since one was a child I decided not to charge anything extra. He arrived on Saturday with his family of 10, 8 of whom were adults. I was out of town, but when my property manager Babeth contacted me in shock, I phoned to ask about the extra people. His mother told me some would be leaving the following week and that the numbers would gradually come down, and I calculated the extra charge per day accordingly. By Wednesday they had still not paid the balance that was due on Saturday or for the extra people. When I insisted they pay or leave they actually spent a day looking for a cheaper place so they would have to pay. Eventually they paid, they stayed, and left as scheduled, leaving damage in the house. During the 13 years I've rented my house through VRBO I have never experienced this type of deception.

Dear Cynthia, We had a wonderful stay at your beautiful and comfortable home. We cooked fresh vegetables from the wonderful Wednesday market and enjoyed the roast chicken they sell. Going out for baguettes and croissants in the morning really started out our day. The location is perfect for day trips all over Provence. We even got to see Le Tour de France one day near Sault. We loved the beaches near Stes. Maries de la Mer. Thanks to you and Babeth for your hospitality.

What a wonderful location to spend a birthday celebration with the friends for Belinda's 50th. The house was perfect and every little detail added the Provencal touch. We throughly enjoyed our interactions with the locals, especially at the Wednesday local market. Food and wine using local produce provided many a memorable culinary experience. A great base to head off and explore the local wonders. Perfect weather - who could ask for more?

Can it be true that our 4 weeks in St. Cannat and in your lovely Provencal home have come to an edn? It seemseautiful spring arrived. like just yesterday that we arrived on tht dark, rainy night. It was still winter here. During our stay a beautiful Spring arrived. We spent happy times on the scenic roads visiting the towns and villages, and hanging out in this lovely, comfortable house and in the village of St. Cannat. The Mas de Fauchon is great and worth the price.

The stay at Villa Bougainvilliers has been an opportunity of a lifetime. The Wednesday market was an experience I am glad we did not miss. As a tip for others, the roasted chickens must be "reserved". Going to the market and coming home to cook is a treat ~ as others have said, the food tastes better here. Babeth was most helpful. My gratitude to Cynthia for allowing us to stay in her home. It is truly a "home".

With respect to the enthusiastic comments of earlier residents on the pleasure of meeting Cynthia and Babeth, the comfort of the villa, classic Provencial ambiance of St. Cannat, splendid pizza in the square, elegant dining at Le Mas de Fauchon, and the nearby attractions, including Aiz, Arles, and especially the commentary at Nostradamus's place in Salon, we are in complete agreement. "Parfait!" What a beautiful, welcoming home! My first trip to Provence and I am in love ~~ the flowers, the "vin", the people, the architecture, the vistas of sun-soaked villages clingng to cliffs, crimson poppies springing up under knarled, carefully pruned grage vines, fields of mustard blanketing the country-side. It has truly been one of the best trips I've taken. Thank you for letting your lovely home be our "base camp" for such an adventure!

A most wonderful experience to live in St. Cannat for a month. A home away from home. Provence: the Luberon, Gorges du Verdon, Cassis, Marseille, etc. All experienced to the utmost degree. It has been a most educational and spiritual experience to live here for 4 weeks. The people are beautiful and so accommodating. We have met wonderful people while here. Especially Babeth, whose smile and willingness to help us at every turn were welcome and appreciated. Thank you, Babeth. Thank you, Cynthia for the use of your home and a glimpse of your life. An excellent way to avoid tht worst of the English winter is to stay in this splendid (or "cool" as my grandson put it) house in Saint Cannat. We made many visits to places old and new, but always enjoyed returning to what we came to regard as home. Babeth was most attentive to our occasional needs and was a reassuring presence in the background. We shall miss many things -- the weather, morning bread and croissants, a welcoming village and the many new friends we made. We hope to be back someday.

Though five days was much too short, we've been able to take in some of the treasures of Provence: Christmas markets and lights in Avignon and Aix, and we even dipped our hands into the Mediterranen outside of Marseilles (Brrr!). The house was a wonderful home base, and the people of Saint Cannat could not have been friendlier. Thank you Babeth, and thank you Cynthia. One of the best Christmases ever. Dinner at Le Korrigan in Rognes, large and succlulent portions -- the owner a character to say the least. Fabulous dinner at Mas de Fauchon, and worth every penny! Environment, presentation, taste, and service. St. Cannat a great centre point for the many outings, and this house warm and charming to return to each night.

We arrived tired and had a perfect dinner at Le Korrigan in Rognes. The owner was the characteristic "Provencal man" with a wonderful handlebar moustache. The food was great and not expensive, and talking with the owner was "priceless". We explored Provence -- Avignon, St. Remy (an adorable place), Aix, the big market at Isle sur Sorgue (a lot of fun).... The house provided us a wonderful place to return to after a wonderful, but tiring day. We ate well, slept well, and so appreciated the washer/dryer, which made a necessary chore easy. We wish the owners good fortune with this lovely house.

I am returning to Vancouver tomorrow after a terrific first trip to France. My Mummy, Daddy, Nana, Poppa and I loved using your house as a base for many great day trips: to Avignon (I really liked the bridge that only went half-way across), Aix, Roussillon, Lourmarin (Mummy and Daddy's favorite), Pont du Gard, Uzes (don't miss the Haribo bonbon musee!), Cassis (where we had a great boat ride and swim), Bonnieux, Gordes, Isle sur la Sorgue (terrific Sunday market), etc., etc. I am leaving with many good memories, a few French phrases, and hopes of returning soon.

Your house was warm and comfortable. We enjoyed the charm of Saint Cannat and its easy accessibility to other nearby towns and cities.

Everything was lovely. The countryside open and friendly for exploring -- great restaurantsin every town. We loved the warmth of the village of St Cannat. We couldn't have felt more welcomed. We hope to come back soon. Merci beaucoup, Cynthia.

Dear Cynthia, There really aren't words to discribe our perfect visit. You have spared us nothing with your ammenities and suggestions and lovely home. We went to the restaurant Le Mas de Fauchon -- worth a special trip -- and spent late afternoons at the Bar Moderne. The locals hang out here. Real French!

We had a wonderful four days living "la vie Provencale", and a warm welcome from the lovely Babeth and sweet smiles from everybody in St. Cannat. This house offered us the chance to dllip into another life, rather than just have a "holiday". Merci Cynthia, Babeth, and the village of St. Cannat!

Merci mille fois, Cynthia. It was lovely to come back to your house at the end of the day -- to sort of "live" here for a week rather than just "stay" here. I find that Provence has the same effect on me now as it did when I was s tudent in Aix 15 years ago -- I don't ever want to leave it!

We found this fabulous home by an random internet search and have spent six glorious days here. Unfortunately our time here comes to an end tomorrow. This has been the perfect location to both relax and set out on daily excursions. Marseille, Aix, and Cassis were wonderful, but our favorite times were spent here at this beutiful home and in St. Cannat. The villagers are absolutely terrific, exceptionally friendly, and forgiving of our butchering their French language. Babeth was most helpful. We hope to return to St. Cannat with our family in the near future.

Out of all our vacations (many!) this has been our favorite. The house, the town, and nearby sites are all perfect. We've promised each other we'll return every year. Thank you!!!

One week in Provence brought to life so many of the Impressionists' paintings we loved at the Musee d'Orsay -- the wheatfields; the plane trees; the mistral winds; the villages, and the warm, welcoming French people. I feel as though I am living a beautiful tapestry of French life in your home and in my "new home" of St. Cannat. Like the Cathedral d'Images (Les Baux) I view a spectacle of images from Provence in my mind and in my heart. Curt and I will always treasure the memories of the "friends" we made in St. Cannat: Jeannie Lefevbre who spotted us in Lambesc and gave us a ride back home; the beautician from the former Yugoslavia who communicated to me with her beautiful smiles; the shopkeepers who laughed WITH us over our feeble attempts at speaking French, and the pizza lady who gave us free pizza to taste. It was all magical; a dream come true. Merci ...

This is our 4th trip to Provence -- this time we brought the whole family. Enjoyed the house very much! The swimming pool was perfect for cooling down our grandson. We cooked some wonderful meals here. Really liked your green grocer (very nice people) and the gentleman at the charcuterie. Many thanks to Babeth -- she was so helpful. Mme. Lefevre also very nice. Priviledged to be here when France beat Brazil in the World Cup.

This, thanks to my son Albert, was my "trip in a lifetime". I have never traveled anywhere except within the USA. This trip (4 days in Paris, a week in St. Cannat, 4 days in Rome) was a Christmas gift from him. And, it has been more wonderful than I ever imagined. France is a beautiful country with warm and friendly people. I know I will never be back, but my memories will last forever.

What a fun time we had at your place! Daily trips into Aix, Avignon, wine towns; evening meals done here. Croissants for breakfast. It is truly a charming village and comfortable house. Thanks for sharing with us.

This lovely house and village were so perfect for us that we extended our stay. Thank you! We were blessed with glorious sunshine -- a truly wonderful week (plus). Particularly, thanks for making the home so welcoming -- little touches greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the fabulous week, Cynthia -- had a wonderful B-day lunch at Mas de Fauchon, wandered around Arles, Aix, Les Baux, Avignon, Cassis, Gordes and Fountaine de Vaucluse -- only forgetting what side of the road to drive on twice. Visited lots of markets, drank lots of rose, and ate far too much food -- we will be back!
