An enchanting resort, Beech Mountain offers 15 ski trails, amazing waterfalls, specially built hiking trails (right down the street), tubing, sledding, ice skating, snow boarding, cross country skiing, Ski for Free: Ladies on Monday, and Men on Thursday. The Buckeye Recreation Center offers indoor rock climbing, a running track, indoor tennis, basketball and Volleyball courts, fitness classes of any sort, martial arts, crafts and special events.
Beech Mountain is kid friendly, with a nursery for toddlers six months to three years, youth learning center three to 14 years and day and night sledding. For meals out, there is a variety of exceptional restaurants to include Jackalope’s View, Zudza’s Tapas, some home style eateries, take-outs, breakfast only specials, along with a few delicatessens, coffee bars, homemade fudge shops, a pizza parlor and sports tavern.
There are quaint shops, toy stores and the famous Fred’s Mercantile-- make sure you go by and see Fred! And, this is only on Beech Mountain’s Winter Wonderland. At the base of the mountain, only a few minutes away is the quaint town of Banner Elk with its own assortment of outfitters, entertainment and restaurants, along with its Sugar Mountain ski slopes.
Just a few minutes away is skiing at Seven Devil’s Hawksnest trails. Lees McRae College in Banner Elk offers theater and other cultural events. The city of Boone hosts Appalachian State University. Around the university are unique stores--a fun place to shop |
