Our family of seven enjoyed a week's vacation at this lovely home. The home is private, spacious, quiet and relaxing. Private bedrooms and baths for all. Well equipped kitchen (the best we've seen!). Melissa is a very accommodating host, excellent with communication and planning. Lake George is a beautiful place to visit and a vacation worth taking! Thanks Melissa for sharing your lovely home.

'We stayed at the house last week to do some winter activities and it was way beyond what we expected. Party of 8, very spacious and clean and everything at your fingertips. Everyone loved the decor, simple yet elegant. We had a great time, Melissa was most helpful with getting everything ready for our weekend. We would definitely stay here again, without a doubt one of the best cabins we've rented and most courteous owners. Thanks for everything, it was a fantastic weekend. Rob'
Lake George House, a 2,200 square foot, 4-bedroom, 4-bath house, is the only house on 50 acres of wooded land on Lake Shore Drive in Diamond Point, NY. We're open year round and pets are welcome.
With regard to the rates and the rate chart here, please understand that In the summer we use flat rates of $1,700 - $2,400 for up to ten people, At all other times of the year, however, our rates are determined not only by the length of stay but by the number of people in your party. Some of the holidays are flat rate, some have a minimum 8-person rate. Because the rate chart here on HomeAway.com doesn't allow for us to show all those rates, the nonholiday rates for September to May unfortunately are mostly inaccurate. For an accurate quote, please be so kind as to contact us directly (see URL information at the bottom of the Links and Video section). We do respond promptly. Thank you.
The bright and open living, dining, kitchen area and a 10' x 24' screened porch offer plenty of space for the enjoyment of up to eleven people. Knotty-pine walls and ceilings, floors of oak or ceramic tile, tall windows to view the woods, a Ping-Pong table on the screened porch, plus all the conveniences, make for a comfortable, relaxing vacation any time of year.
Hiking Trail A private hiking trail around the 50 acres of woodlands out back guides you with with clear markings along a walk of 1.4 miles one way. It takes you through forested land with tall cliffs, rock ledges, a 100-foot-deep gorge, streams of cool drinkable water, sightings of the lake through the trees and at the trail's end magnificent views of the lake. Those include such landmarks as Dome Island, the Narrows and Tongue Mountain to the north and Long, Canoe, and Speaker Heck islands, French Mountain, Cleverdale, and mountains in Vermont and Massachusetts to the south. You do need hiking boots for this walk.
Swimming and boat rentals for enjoying beautiful, pristine Lake George are within five or ten minutes' drive. Skiing and tubing at Gore Mountain are 35 minutes away; to West Mountain, just 30 minutes' drive.
Lake George House contains two levels of living area and provides an unusual degree of privacy for residents.
An oil furnace provides central heat, and the house is centrally air conditioned. A private well supplies delicious, drinkable tap water.
Rooms are large, their walls paneled with knotty pine, and the floors made of oak or ceramic tile. Doors are oak as well. Ceilings are high, windows large, and decorations sparse, lending an atmosphere of space and relaxation. Every room looks out over a natural setting of forest and mountains.
The main room is large enough for gatherings of the entire group. It contains a large gas-fired woodstove, the living, dining, and kitchen areas, and a table that seats eight comfortably. A spare table is available to allow seating for eleven. Here, too, are one of the two TVs (with cable), the VCR, CD and DVD players, the radio, and an assortment of books, games, and puzzles for the guests' entertainment. A second TV is in the downstairs bedroom where the futon sofa is.
The living room opens out onto a 10' X 24' screened porch that looks up into the woods and where the Ping-Pong table is, as well as and a wrought iron sofa and comfortable chairs.
The kitchen is unusually well equipped with a four-burner electric stove with oven, a refrigerator, and a dishwasher, as well as a coffee maker, two toasters, a blender, a hand mixer, and a microwave oven. Pots and pans are abundant; silverware and dinnerware will accommodate a group of ten. A full-size pantry, not shown in the picture, provides generous space for kitchen equipment and your groceries. Even my stepson, the chef, finds this kitchen one amazingly well-equipped and pleasant place to cook.
The two upstairs bedrooms are the same size with a queen-size bed, a full bath, and a walk-in closet in each.
The third and fourth bedrooms are on the lower level. Each of those contains a set of twin beds that can be made up as a king. The larger of the two also has a futon sofa and a second TV. Its bathroom is on the upper level. The smaller twin-or-king room also has a narrow single bed, its own bathroom with large fiberglass shower, and a hook-up for your own small TV. Both have a generous-size walk-in closet.
A highchair, a booster seat, a set of baby gates, a standard crib (the crib for a $25 fee), and a collection of children's books are available for small children.
In the utility room on the lower level are a standard washer and dryer, an iron and ironing board, and a counter for folding the clean laundry. A number of beach chairs to take to the local beaches are stored here.
Three of the baths have a shower and tub combination and counter space around the basin. The fourth bathroom has a large fiberglass shower. All bed linens are furnished, as are a bath towel and wash cloth for each guest (plus a lot of spares), bath mats, and dish towels. We do not provide beach towels.
Out back are a gas grill with a spare canister of propane. A set of swings including a baby swing is also available outside the screened porch.
A portable fire pit decorated with slate tiles is available for small outdoor camp fires--provided weather conditions are such that outdoor fires are not a hazard. Guests will need to get our pointers on the safe use of the fire pit.
If a power outage occurs during your stay, a 6,800-watt generator will be provided to supply the house with use of the furnace, water, septic system, refrigeration, and a number of electrical outlets.
The business holds an A+ accreditation with the Better Business Bureau of Upstate New York.
A few of our guests' comments--
'I just absolutely loved this place. Melissa was very informative and friendly. She helped with all the planning and suggested things to see and do. The property was like my home away from home. It's all renovated and is well maintained. Truly a beautiful and cozy place. I can't say enough about how we enjoyed it. There were 11 people in our party and the property was spacious enough for all to be comfortable. The house items were fully stocked with all the cutlery and kitchen accessories. The four full bathrooms were quite sufficient for our mini vacation. I hope to be back again for another vacation, hopefully a full week next time. The surroundings were picturesque as the snow lightly glistened the treetops.'
'This house is fabulous. The Lake George experience was spectacular for my fiance and me. Take care and see you next year!'
'Thank you for again providing such a beautiful and well kept home away from home for us. We very much enjoyed our stay at Lake George House. We did, as always have a great time and were sorry to leave.'
'I really enjoyed my little vacation and my only regret is that it wasn't longer. There was nothing that we needed that wasn't provided in the house. It really was a pleasure. Thank you for getting the deposit out so promptly. It's appreciated. We have already talked about another vacation sometime later in the year so hopefully you'll be hearing from me again. Again, thank you for everything, Melissa. Your house is welcoming and very comfortable and you've done a wonderful job in looking after your guests. It was a joy!'
'Just to let you know how much Jan and I enjoyed our stay at Lake George House. We were sad to leave the beautiful Lake George Area, but had to get home to get some rest.
We are already talking about what were going to do during our next trip.
Thank you for providing such a beautiful place to stay, we really enjoyed the new sofa.'
'Truly enjoyed your beautiful home. A wonderful place for relaxing. So much space and everything we needed. The woods were pretty with so many different trees showing together so well. Thank you so much.'
'Thank you very very very much for opening your home to us. It's a very beautiful home. We really enjoyed ourselves here and would like to come back during the summer months. Again we say thank you with all our hearts.'
'As always, a great time. Good weather, food, and shopping. The last night we cooked pork shops from Oscar's Smokehouse. Lots of toys for Arianna and lots of treats for Skully, the beagle. [Arianna:] Hope to be back real soon!'
'Thank you so much for letting us stay here. Not only did the family have fun, our dog Reilly had a blast. The house is so big and nice. Our family cannot thank you enough. Have a great winter.'
'We had a great time in your cabin in the past 2 days we stayed here. Thank you so much for a great house that offers much comfort, entertaining games, etc. We especially liked the new Ping-Pong table! Again, we greatly appreciated your care in setting up the place so that our stay can be enjoyed as much as possible.'
'Thank you for letting us enjoy your beautiful house. The kitchen has everything! You have thought of every little detail and we really felt at home here.

About the owner: As my year-round occupation is managing my two rental houses, I would call myself an innkeeper. It's a pleasure for me to live just 2 miles away and provide the pleasantest and most comfortable accommodations I can for my guests. I treasure and do what I can to protect this beautiful and hospitable place and enjoy classical music and good movies and theater and my CSA vegetables and eggs from the local farm. My grown son, who sells Toyotas in Santa Rosa, CA, just assisted in my leasing of a great car, the PriusV. My daughter works very hard teaching biology at a Baltimore City high school.
Why the Owner Chose Diamond Point:
Though the property was bought in 1959, the house was built only in 2001 and has remained in excellent condition, thanks to the care of appreciative guests. Surrounded by woods, but not a long drive into backwoods, it offers natural privacy and beauty. One woman who came there, said it well, 'You have to experience this house to know how wonderful it is.' The great kitchen and pantry, the four bathrooms, the new Ping-Pong table on the screened porch, the beautiful interior, and the immaculate condition you will find it in, all create a place you will feel privileged to visit.
