We rented this cottage for a week in August and it was perfect! The grounds were beautiful, filled with gorgeous flowers and overlooking the river! We had a great time Kayaking. The cottage was very clean, spacious and well maintained. Cliff was a fantastic host and made sure we had everything we needed to enjoy our week. We can't wait to go back again!

A Perfect Week

Guest: Emily (Brooklyn, NY)
Date of Stay: 08/07/10 Review Submitted: 08/08/11

My boyfriend and I had such a wonderful stay in this cottage! After driving and camping through Nova Scotia, we settled in for the most enjoyable week here. The setting is breathtaking. Kayaking here was peaceful and completely gorgeous. The grounds are so lovely that we rarely left, though when we did, we found much to enjoy in the area. Some good restaurants, antique stores, and an absolutely amazing alpaca farm are all within short drives. The cottage itself was perfectly charming, with plenty of room and all of the comforts of home. Cliff was a perfect host, making sure that everything was comfortable and easy. We were there for just under a week, but it was so relaxing and beautiful that it felt like a much longer stay. I would go back in a heartbeat.

Memorable Vacation

Guest: Jackie (Oakdale, NY USA)
Date of Stay: 07/24/11 Review Submitted: 08/02/11

We had a wonderful stay at Riverbank Cottage. The setting just perfect – quiet, secluded, on a lovely estuary that was ideal for kayaking (kayaks provided) and digging for shellfish. The property was beautifully landscaped with all kinds of annuals and perennials and even our parking spot was lined with flowers! To say we stayed in a cottage would be a misnomer. The house was more than spacious with three charming bedrooms, many chests of drawers, large closets, and plenty of hangars (one of my pet peeves when vacationing.) The living area was spacious with plenty of comfortable seating, cable television and loads of DVD’s. The kitchen was very well equipped having all the equipment you might need to whip up a meal. The balconies on the upper and lower floors provided a serene place to read or to relax and enjoy the scenery. Barbara and Clif were wonderful hosts, providing us with many suggestions of places to visit, restaurants to enjoy, and activities to keep us busy. A memorable vacation! Can't wait to return.

Step Back to a Quieter Time

Guest: Rick (Middletown, NY - USA)
Date of Stay: 07/14/11 Review Submitted: 07/31/11

If you're arriving at Riverside cottage from a city or suburban area, the drive in will take you pleasantly back in time. It reminded me of where I grew up fifty years ago. The last kilometer is on a smoothly graded reddish-brown farm road cutting through expansive potato fields lined with lupines and other wildflowers. If you're lucky, you may see a ring-necked pheasant running through the field to escape your approach. The cottage is toward the end of the road with the Trout River in its backyard. It is bright and cheery inside, ambient light entering through large widows accenting each room's tastefully decorated furnishings, wall hangings and appointments. The kitchen has everything you need for meal prep and seating for six, and don't forget the gas grill on the deck. The bed rooms are spacious with plenty of easy opening windows for ventilation. The beds are new and very comfortable and you will sleep well not hearing any planes, trains or traffic. Riverside cottage is in a convenient location, about 5 km from Tyne Valley with several eateries and provision shopping. The city of Summerside, with more extensive shopping, restaurants and attractions is about 20 minutes away. Cliff and Barbara, the proprietors in the yellow cottage next door, meticulously maintain Riverside cottage, and are eager to provide detailed assistance customizing your sight seeing plans. In fact that's one of the best features about Riverside. You don't get this kind of friendly, caring help elsewhere. Where to eat and what to see will not be a problem. They also provide kayaks, and the river is readily navigable upstream to Tyne Valley or downstream to the bay. As you paddle you will undoubtedly sight numerous herons and king fishers plying the water for a meal. The magnificent scenery, contoured rows of verdant potato fields and rich red soil showcase beautiful farm homes and buildings in the distance. Naturally you can see this from the road, but the solitude and serenity of a quiet paddle lets you turn back the clock, like you're the first explorer to see it! We stayed at Riverside cottage for ten days and enjoyed every minute, sometimes just relaxing reading the paper or a good book, at other times paddling, checking out local museums, beaches, fisheries, or sampling the seafood at a working dock. The pictures of the cottage accurately depict where you will be staying but actually being there is a lot better. We'll certainly be back.

Owner response:Thanks Rick for the kind review. We enjoyed having you and your wife as guests. You're welcome back anytime.

Serenity-FOUND!

Guest: Serenity-Seeker (Speonk, NY)
Date of Stay: 07/15/11 Review Submitted: 07/27/11

Our fifth visit to Riverbank proved to be as magical as the first four. In a world where landscapes make way for developers' profits on a regular basis, Riverbank and PEI remain constant. As we turn right at the Miscouche traffic light to begin the scenic route to the cottage, we still thrill to the sight of rolling farm fields framed by bay vistas. Once the sight of St. Patrick's on the hill overlooking the bay comes into view, we remind ourselves that this is as close to picture-perfect as we have seen. Riverbank and the cottage next door stand like two little sentries at the end of sprawling farm fields overlooking the water...with another picturesque farm just across the way. This is mirrored in the estuary at every morning's sunrise and the evening sunsets. There are no superlatives to match the kind generosity and accommodating spirit of the hosts, Barb and Clif. They will even go on a mini-vacation if you need to rent their own cottage, which sits next to Riverbank, for an extended family get-together. PEI is a step back in time in all the best ways. If you want a TRUE get-away, Riverbank does not disappoint.

Welcoming hosts, quiet location within easy drive of all PEI attractions

Riverbank cottage provided our family with an ideal base from which to explore the island. The photos did not even begin to give us an idea of how comfortable we would be or the hummingbirds that would entertain Cliff and Barb were wonderful hosts who went out of their way to suggest places to visit, provide entertaining recreation ideas to amuse our granddaughter and information on where to shop, eat and enjoy Tyne Valley. Our stay was made more memorable by the use of their kayaks, croquet set and satellite t.v. The cottage was equipped with everything we needed except our clothes, food and drink. Thank you so much for such a wonderful stay!
