Location: Cabrieres-d'Avignon, Luberon Area, Provence, France, Europe (in Luberon National Park; 30 mins Avignon; 1 hr Marseille)

Accommodations:  House, 3 Bedrooms + No additional sleeping rooms avail, 2.5 Baths (Sleeps 6)

Keywords:  House

Our house is situated in a quiet setting at the top end of the mediaeval village of Cabrieres d'Avignon in the northwest corner of the Luberon National Park. The 3000-square-metre garden is a cool oasis on hot summer days thanks to its pines, oaks, olive, and cedar trees. Broom, rosemary, lavender, and wild thyme are abundant. The landscaped swimming pool (ten metres by five metres) sits in a sunny, raised position with views of the Luberon and Les Alpilles Mountains.

This sunny, south-facing house has three bedrooms, two bathrooms, one with bath/shower, basin and bidet, the other with a large walk-in shower, washbasin and toilet. There is also a separate toilet. There is a large open plan living/dining room, modern, spacious kitchen with a superb double-oven cooker (SUITS KEEN COOKS!). The kitchen leads directly, via glass doors, to the patio with dining table, hammock, and built-in barbecue and portable Weber gas BBQ.

Cabrieres d'Avignon is a well-preserved village, its character kept intact by the dry stone wall buildings which line its narrow streets. The honey coloured stone walls and old wooden doors hide many splendidly landscaped inner courtyards. There is 12th-century castle with a grim history, old wash houses, a church, and many bories (dry stone shepherds houses).

Our house is a five to ten-minute walk to the centre of Cabrieres with its baker, butcher, grocery shop, honey shop, library, post office, tourist office, and three restaurants.

Cabrieres has all the advantages of being within the Luberon National Park yet not being overwhelmed by tourists. It is a sleepy village in a sunny south-facing position facing across the valley towards the Luberon Mountains. There are walking trails almost from our doorstep and lavender fields nearby. Also for children there is a nearby tree-top adventure park, a snail park, caves to explore, canoe trips, river trips from Avignon, plus many other activities. We can provide two bicycles and tennis racquets.

Owner's Profile

Owner Description

Year Purchased: 2003

After having lived and worked in many wonderful places around the world this beautiful area of Provence in where we have chosen to settle. It has all and more than one could ever want for a home or indeed a holiday. We live in abundant sunshine, surrounded by vineyards, and glorious scenery and with so many historic sites and cultural events on our doorstep. Restaurants are plentiful and excellent. What more can one want from life!

Why the Owner Chose Cabrieres-d'Avignon

The beauty, gastronomy, history and climate of the Luberon region of Provence ......... it has it all!

The Unique Benefits of this House

Most of our visitors comment on the view of the Luberon hills seen from our patio and the peace and quiet of the location. That being said, we are only a 10 minute walk from the centre of a characterful mediaeval village so it's an easy stroll to the baker to buy croissants for breakfast. Your can walk to two restaurants as well. From our village you can drive in any direction to visit historic hilltop villages, lavender fields, markets (there's one nearby every day of the week), Roman towns, and areas of scenic beauty. The nearest beaches and the Camargue are no more than 1 1/2 hours away.

An absolutely PERFECT 2 weeks! We've been to this area a number of times before but this was the best! Your property was the perfect place to relax, unwind and enjoy the beauty of the Luberon. We ALWAYS enjoy good eather, food and wine here - but this year was made even better by making new friends - you. Thank you for everything. A bientot.

Friends at work strongly recommended Provence for a vacation with kids if we were going to Europe. They could not have been more right. Unbelieveable sights and landscapes, great food, friendly people and the wines!! The house was gorgeous and more than we could have hoped for. Rosie & Carlo were hospitable, generous and extremely helpful. A fantastic vacation. Thank you so much.

Thank you for making us so welcome and help us to find perfect Provencal experiences - villages, bistros, shops, vistas - during our stay here. For us this is probably and sadly a 'once in a lifetime chance' to enjoy this little bit of the world and we loved it! Best wishes and many thanks.

Our first time to Provence and we could not have chosen a better place to stay! The house exceeded all our expectations. Comfortable, clean and the most marvellous welcome from Rosie and Carlo - wonderful hosts! Most brilliant was the file with all the information we could possibly need for us to get the most out of every day. The recommendations for restaurants were excellent ..... and we highly recommend the Kayak Vert canoe trip experience. We have loved, loved, loved being here .... mooching in the mornings .... swimming (and jumping SPLASH!) in the pool in the afternoons ... wine and dinner in the evenings ... I could go on. See you again we hope!

A magical place, we love it! Your home offers complete tranquility and beauty. We love the feeling of being in a real home, especially one so well equipped and welcoming. Thank you Rosie and Carlo for being so helpful and gving us such a warm welcome. We will always remember this trip to Provence as something very special. Using your home as a base we've wandered here and there, revisiting favourite places and making new discoveries. And we feel we've made new friends and want to stay in touch. With thanks.

Over the decades we have had many villa holidays and can honestly say we have never been so comfortable and well provided for. We did a lot of cooking and appreciated all that had been left. We also went to a couple of restaurants - L'Estellan for a 2 course lunch (€20) - excellent and Le Vivier for an evening meal. This is the restaurant with a new Michelin Satr this year and could not have been bettered at under €400 for 6 (including tip, wine and a few extras). One week is not enough for our favourite area of France. Many thanks Rosie and Carlo.

Thank you for the wonderful introduction to the the Provence area and lifestyle. Also for the week within your villa, the peace and serenity lazing around the pool and the 30 degrees + temperatures. An idyllic region that hopefully we may revisit again. Till then take care and a sincere thanks for all your help, hospitality and company.

You have given us a beautiful gift! Your home to rest in, and your company to enjoy. We had a great time, still so much to see we are already dreaming of our next trip. You are both very special people with a spirit every bit as beautiful as your home and environs. We hope to see you again and remember, whether for a house swap or a visit our home is always open to you both.

Beautiful setting and a comfortable house. All of us enjoyed our stay. The pool was in use up to the last day. The forest provided hours of hiking (we got lost!) and so many delicious restaurants, bakeries, and wineries. Several kilos later we must say goodbye. A bientot.

Thank you for a wonderful time! The house was the perfect place to relax, and we loved the area. Your restaurant suggestions couldn't have been better, everyone was so accommodating of the baby plus we followed your recommendations for visiting towns more than our guidebook!! Hope you continue to rent out your fantastic house in the future, we love to come back!
