Accommodations:  Cabin, 1508 Square Foot, 3 Bedrooms + Loft, 2 Baths (Sleeps 8)

Located just 23 miles west of West Yellowstone in Island Park, Idaho, Mountain Lake Cabin sits on a half acre property, nestled between pine trees and aspens, and bordered by Targhee National Forest. From the cabin you can see a glimpse of Henry's Lake, surrounded by towering mountains forming the Continental Divide. Mountain Lake Cabin, built in 2003, is the perfect home base for exploration of the Yellowstone and Teton National Parks. High speed internet is available through an ethernet connection via satellite. This cabin is supplied well - we provide linens and towels, a hair dryer, all paper goods, hand soaps, dishwashing soaps, laundry soap, shower gel, trash can liners, etc. The comfortability of our guests is important to us!

This 1508 sq. ft. two-story 3 bedroom/2 bath year-round vacation home has a large loft and sleeps 8 comfortably. It is fully equipped and tastefully furnished. The Great Room has floor to ceiling windows, and the log staircase and vertical logs supporting the cathedral ceiling add to the rustic charm of this lovely mountain home. The alluring view draws your eyes outward through quaking aspens and pines, and to the rising mountains that form the Continental Divide to the North.

It was here in 1805 that the Lewis and Clark expedition looked for a passage over the Divide to link the Missouri River to the Columbia River and down to the Pacific Ocean.

Knotty pine tongue and groove walls and ceilings, custom pine plank flooring, slate tiles, and plush wall-to-wall carpet create a cozy and rustic atmosphere in the cabin. Comfortable furnishings welcome you to a very relaxing experience! A fully equipped kitchen with breakfast bar and stools opens onto the Great Room with two comfortable leather couches, a recliner, a rocking chair and a corner cast iron gas stove backed by a tall wall of smooth river rock.

The master bedroom with its log bed and full bath is right down the hall. The master bathroom has a bath/shower combination. In the rear of the cabin is a large mudroom, that has a washer and a dryer and a door to the rear deck. The rear deck is very private and looks out over the adjoining Targhee National Forest that rises to the heights of Sawtelle Mountain. To the side of the cabin in the rear is a firepit, where you can gather to roast marshmallows, share the day's activities and reminisce...

Up the log stairs is a large loft, with a queen size pullout couch and an over-stuffed chair with ottoman. It is a cozy place to talk, read, or watch movies on DVD or satellite TV. There are two upstairs bedrooms; one with a queen bed, and the other with two twin beds. The upstairs bathroom has a shower. Up a log ladder tucked under apex of the cathedral ceiling is an eagle’s nest loft.

Out front the extensive redwood deck with its log railing looks out over aspens and pine trees, which creates a great sense of seclusion. Look forward to casual meals and BBQs here, as you enjoy the view and the sound of the quaking aspens.

Depending on the season, boating, white water rafting, water skiing, swimming, hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, golfing, snowmobiling, sledding, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing are all available in Island Park and neighboring West Yellowstone. You can literally snowmobile from the cabin onto trails that connect with groomed trails down the road in Henry’s Lake State Park, or into West Yellowstone and further into Idaho. You could also try the groomed trails at Big Springs (drive south on Highway 20 and take a left at Mack's Inn). There are also great opportunities for cross-country skiing - drive south on Highway 20 to Harriman State Park and enjoy the peace and quiet there. Or go to the world-famous RendezVous Ski trails in West Yellowstone and visit during the yearly Ski Festival around Thanksgiving, or take part in the yearly RendezVous Ski Races in March.

The fishing in Henry’s Lake and surrounding streams is a trout angler's dream and this area is a world-renowned fishery. The lake is home to the "Henry's Lake Lunker," a cutthroat-rainbow hybrid that can easily weigh up to 10 pounds. The lake also offers an abundance of brook, rainbow, and native cutthroat trout. The Henry's Fork of the Snake River flows out of the lake and winds its way through Harriman State Park to Ashton. This stretch of clear mountain water is acclaimed by fly-fishing enthusiasts as the "best trout fishing stream in the U.S."

Henry's Lake State Park on the southeast corner of the lake encompasses three unique ecosystems including the lake, wetlands and sagebrush steppe. Moose and antelope are a common sight and wildflowers bloom throughout the season. The 3-mile Aspen Loop Nature Trail is open to hikers and bikers.

High Mountain Adventures across from the Island Park Resort off of Highway 20 rents kayaks, canoes, rafts, tubes, 4-wheelers and mountain bikes. Or rent your snowmobile there during the winter. Spend a day on Henry's Lake in kayak or canoe as you enjoy the peace and quiet amidst the mountains of the Continental Divide.

Mountain Lake Cabin is within easy driving distance of Yellowstone Park, Red Rock National Wildlife Refuge, Mesa Falls Scenic Byway, Harriman State Park, Quake Lake, and the old mining town of Virginia City, Montana. If you're looking for a rich and authentic western experience in quiet and beautiful surroundings, with easy access to Yellowstone Park, you're sure to enjoy your stay at Mountain Lake Cabin!

    • June 19-21, 2009 We were so lucky to be able to stay for 2 nights here. We wish we could stay longer (we wondered if the next guests would mind!). We loved having a fire in the evenings, hearing the animals, and simply sitting around the fireplace visiting. We've never had such a relaxing place to stay at night. We hope to bring more of the family and visit regularly. Thank you and Cnacubo!" Rick, LeAnne, Ray, Rose, Rodney & Ksenia Bismarck ND, Linton ND, Minneapolis MN & Russia.

    • June 8-12, 2009 Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful home with us. We felt completely at home, made even more welcome by all the "little touches" like cooking and food items and the Pack & Play. After spending our first planned night sleeping in our cars caught behind the road closure at Norris in Yellowstone, your comfortable beds were a welcome site! God's blessings on you and your family. Thanks again,

    • June 2-9, 2009 All eight of us loved the cabin a lot. It was so beautiful and had everything we needed, so close to a beautiful national forest. It rained every day and snowed once, but we still were able to do all the sight seeing we wanted. Bruce was here quickly for any trouble. Thanks, Bruce. There are so many things to do and see in Yellowstone - a week isn't enough. But we also had a great time within a few miles of the cabin!

    • May 19-22nd, 2009 Thanks for sharing your wonderful cabin with us! It was very well equipped with most everything anyone could need or use in their own 'home.' I love the furnishings and the beds were very comfortable. We had a great time seeing all the wildlife in Yellowstone Park. We saw lots of buffalo, two grizzlies, elk, sand hill cranes, eagles and antelope. We even saw elk and a coyote on Red Rock Rd. But the kids enjoyed feeding the muskrats, trout, ducks and seagulls at Big Springs the best. They also enjoyed fishing at the Reservoir and caught two Rainbows. We have rented cabins similar to this one in the Black Hills and The Smokeys and I would say this was definitely the nicest! Very homey and quiet. Truly a vacation! We'll definitely recommend this property to others who might be vacationing this way. Thanks so much! Ken and Lana Hyrkas, Logan (15), Grace (14), Jack (11), Evan (9), and Claire (8). We're from Calumet, Michigan (in the upper peninsula of Michigan - Lake Superior Country!)

    • Memorial Day Weekend 2009 We are the Goffs from Kaysville, Utah and Syracuse, Utah - myself, my husband, our son and wife and our grand kids. We really enjoyed the family togetherness and everyone loved the cabin and its great setting. The kitchen was better stocked than any other vacation home I have visited in the past. This made preparing meals for a large group worry free and easy. It was also nice to be so close to good fishing. It allowed us to fish in the morning and then return again in the evening without much of a drive. Our son went into Yellowstone, took some short hikes and saw lots of animals, especially enjoying the new little ones. We went into West Yellowstone, shopped and then drove to see "Quake Lake." It was so interesting. We were both 16 when it hit and felt it in our homes in Utah. The visitor center was very educational. Our grand kids want to see it today before we head home. Great location. Thanks for a nice visit and for sharing your home with us! The Goffs

    • December 23 - 31, 2008 To the Owners: Location, location, location. How refreshing it was to stay in a cabin and not hear anything other than what was going on outside (re: wind, snow falling, etc.). The beauty and views from the cabin itself and the way you furnished it is admirable. We honestly can't say that there was anything we needed that you did not provide. A huge kudos for the Managers of the cabin. They were at our beck and call. Never a call missed or a concern not addressed. We have rented many times in Island Park and never received a call from the Property Managers to see how things were going or address any concerns. Not only managing other properties, it felt as though we were the only ones that they had to look after (although we do know this was not the case). Having been in the hospitality industry for many years, I commend both of you for your concern and care of our stay at Mountain Lake Cabin. It was so comforting to know that you were there. For any future snowmobilers, snowshoers, etc., this is the place for you. True beauty, tranquility and the comfort of knowing you have Magdalena and Bruce as your Property Managers, nothing can touch it. It was "our" pleasure getting to know you both and appreciate the extreme hard work that you do. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and definitely will be back. Happy 2009 New Year to You!

    • 9/16 - 9/20/08 Thank you for sharing with us your lovely cabin. We had a great time with our friends. The kids loved the opportunities to get to know nature: chipmunks and squirrels are their favorites. This place also provided a great relaxing atmosphere for us city bees from San Francisco and for our friends from Hong Kong. Thanks, Karl & Betsy and Bruce & Magdalena, for everything! Love, Kat & Charles, Anita & Ben, Mark and kids: Sean, Max and Abby.
