Accommodations:  Cabin, 1508 Square Foot, 3 Bedrooms + Loft, 2 Baths (Sleeps 8)

Located just 23 miles west of West Yellowstone in Island Park, Idaho, Mountain Lake Cabin sits on a half acre property, nestled between pine trees and aspens, and bordered by Targhee National Forest. From the cabin you can see a glimpse of Henry's Lake, surrounded by towering mountains forming the Continental Divide. Mountain Lake Cabin, built in 2003, is the perfect home base for exploration of the Yellowstone and Teton National Parks. High speed internet is available through an ethernet connection via satellite. This cabin is supplied well - we provide linens and towels, a hair dryer, all paper goods, hand soaps, dishwashing soaps, laundry soap, shower gel, trash can liners, etc. The comfortability of our guests is important to us!

This 1508 sq. ft. two-story 3 bedroom/2 bath year-round vacation home has a large loft and sleeps 8 comfortably. It is fully equipped and tastefully furnished. The Great Room has floor to ceiling windows, and the log staircase and vertical logs supporting the cathedral ceiling add to the rustic charm of this lovely mountain home. The alluring view draws your eyes outward through quaking aspens and pines, and to the rising mountains that form the Continental Divide to the North.

It was here in 1805 that the Lewis and Clark expedition looked for a passage over the Divide to link the Missouri River to the Columbia River and down to the Pacific Ocean.

Knotty pine tongue and groove walls and ceilings, custom pine plank flooring, slate tiles, and plush wall-to-wall carpet create a cozy and rustic atmosphere in the cabin. Comfortable furnishings welcome you to a very relaxing experience! A fully equipped kitchen with breakfast bar and stools opens onto the Great Room with two comfortable leather couches, a recliner, a rocking chair and a corner cast iron gas stove backed by a tall wall of smooth river rock.

The master bedroom with its log bed and full bath is right down the hall. The master bathroom has a bath/shower combination. In the rear of the cabin is a large mudroom, that has a washer and a dryer and a door to the rear deck. The rear deck is very private and looks out over the adjoining Targhee National Forest that rises to the heights of Sawtelle Mountain. To the side of the cabin in the rear is a firepit, where you can gather to roast marshmallows, share the day's activities and reminisce...

Up the log stairs is a large loft, with a queen size pullout couch and an over-stuffed chair with ottoman. It is a cozy place to talk, read, or watch movies on DVD or satellite TV. There are two upstairs bedrooms; one with a queen bed, and the other with two twin beds. The upstairs bathroom has a shower. Up a log ladder tucked under apex of the cathedral ceiling is an eagle’s nest loft.

Out front the extensive redwood deck with its log railing looks out over aspens and pine trees, which creates a great sense of seclusion. Look forward to casual meals and BBQs here, as you enjoy the view and the sound of the quaking aspens.

Depending on the season, boating, white water rafting, water skiing, swimming, hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, golfing, snowmobiling, sledding, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing are all available in Island Park and neighboring West Yellowstone. You can literally snowmobile from the cabin onto trails that connect with groomed trails down the road in Henry’s Lake State Park, or into West Yellowstone and further into Idaho. You could also try the groomed trails at Big Springs (drive south on Highway 20 and take a left at Mack's Inn). There are also great opportunities for cross-country skiing - drive south on Highway 20 to Harriman State Park and enjoy the peace and quiet there. Or go to the world-famous RendezVous Ski trails in West Yellowstone and visit during the yearly Ski Festival around Thanksgiving, or take part in the yearly RendezVous Ski Races in March.

The fishing in Henry’s Lake and surrounding streams is a trout angler's dream and this area is a world-renowned fishery. The lake is home to the "Henry's Lake Lunker," a cutthroat-rainbow hybrid that can easily weigh up to 10 pounds. The lake also offers an abundance of brook, rainbow, and native cutthroat trout. The Henry's Fork of the Snake River flows out of the lake and winds its way through Harriman State Park to Ashton. This stretch of clear mountain water is acclaimed by fly-fishing enthusiasts as the "best trout fishing stream in the U.S."

Henry's Lake State Park on the southeast corner of the lake encompasses three unique ecosystems including the lake, wetlands and sagebrush steppe. Moose and antelope are a common sight and wildflowers bloom throughout the season. The 3-mile Aspen Loop Nature Trail is open to hikers and bikers.

High Mountain Adventures across from the Island Park Resort off of Highway 20 rents kayaks, canoes, rafts, tubes, 4-wheelers and mountain bikes. Or rent your snowmobile there during the winter. Spend a day on Henry's Lake in kayak or canoe as you enjoy the peace and quiet amidst the mountains of the Continental Divide.

Mountain Lake Cabin is within easy driving distance of Yellowstone Park, Red Rock National Wildlife Refuge, Mesa Falls Scenic Byway, Harriman State Park, Quake Lake, and the old mining town of Virginia City, Montana. If you're looking for a rich and authentic western experience in quiet and beautiful surroundings, with easy access to Yellowstone Park, you're sure to enjoy your stay at Mountain Lake Cabin!

    • September 26-October 1, 2009 We had a great time at the cabin. It's very quiet location, and there was everything anyone would need in the cabin - no need to bring anything. Thanks to the owners for being so thoughtful. The Andre Family, Knoxville, TN

    • September 19-26, 2009 Once again we had a great time and enjoyed this wonderful cabin. The weather was absolutely awesome for the entire week - much better than in May '08. No snow this time, but we didn't see as many animals. We drove to the top of Sawtell Peak and loved the view but it was very windy. The Upper & Lower Mesa Falls were beautiful. We also saw Cave Falls and hiked up to Bechler Falls. It is an easy walk and well worth it. A pamphlet says the bugs are bad in summer, so now is the best time to go - it was just beautiful. We also saw Old Faithful and hiked to the observation point. We drove up to Bozeman and then to the Tower-Roosevelt section to walk over the suspension bridge. That was well worth it too. We walked along, then up to the lake where we had a campfire and enjoyed the stars, hearing the cows and coyotes. We also enjoyed the museum in West Yellowstone. Thanks, Magdalena for everything.

    • September 6-12, 2009 We had a great time - could have used a few more days to get in all the sights. Everything was breathtaking. We never saw a bear, but did have cows outside our cabin one morning...it was awesome. The cabin was perfect. It was well equipped with things I may never have thought of. Very clean and comfortable, but most of all cozy. I will definitely recommend it to family and friends. Thanks for everything and for making our stay comfortable - hate to leave.

    • August 5-12, 2009 Our family LOVED your delightful cabin in the woods. This place is wonderful inside and out! We were very RELAXED here - most relaxing vacation in a while! Yellowstone was beautiful, but we saw almost as much wildlife here at the cabin and on the road up here. Saw a large male moose in the woods between here and Highway 20, then a large buck deer on the back lawn. He didn't even spook when we went out on the deck to take pictures. Just really enjoyed our time here - thanks for sharing your piece of heaven with our family. Rodeo at Meadow View was a unique experience. Horseback riding at Harriman State Park was a good choice too! Thanks for all of your help, Magdalena - every detail was taken care of. P.S. Our kids loved the Eagle's Nest too!

    • July 29-August 5, 2009 We two families had a great week. The cabin was fantastic. All the kids loved the Eagle's Nest. The gents cooked up a storm in the kitchen and even used the bread machine. The cabin could not have been better stocked; it was like taking over someone's home for the week. The surroundings of the cabin are so peaceful. We had a great walk up the road and into the aspen forest. Never saw any wildlife bigger than a moth at the cabin, but saw at least one of everything at Yellowstone and Teton. Also had a great float down the river via Mack's Inn Rentals near the cabin; at the river's edge we saw a bull moose up close and personal. By the way, we had great ATT service for our iPhones at the local lakeshore (Henry's Lake).

    • July 26-29, 2009 This vacation was quickly put together and we are so thankful we found the Mountain Lake Cabin online! What a cozy, comfortable place to come to each night after driving around Yellowstone. Magdalena was so helpful in letting us come for just three days - to fill in her summer's rentals and give us a great experience. We had all we needed - even the hair dryer I forgot to pack! The Tetons are also wonderful - hiking to Taggert Lake was so beautiful. We went whitewater rafting there on the Snake River and I can recommend Jackson Hole Whitewater as a great organization. Went up Signal Mountain in the Tetons - saw a mother black bear with her two cubs up a tree! They were so cute, but when they came down we were sure to be in our car! This a a super house location! Thanks again. PS - Ellie wants an Eagle's Nest at home to do homework for her senior year! All age kids love it!

    • July 9 - July 12, 2009 We loved the cabin so much - it was wonderful! Our favorite vacation house ever! At Yellowstone, we saw grizzly and black bears, coyote, bison, bald eagles and their nest, lots of elk and deer. We also saw deer right outside the cabin in the yard. P.S. The Riverside Cafe on the other side of Quake Lake on Rt. 287 was awesome for lunch!

    • July 8, 2009 We had a great time. The kids really enjoyed their vacation. We got to see many animals in the park. The kids became junior rangers. It was a beautiful time and we loved seeing the snow on top of the mountains in July. Everything was WONDERFUL! Thank you once again for allowing us to stay in this wonderful home - we couldn't ask for any better place to stay.
