Abbott Valley Homestead is a great blend of the old and the new. Some of the cabins are the original homestead, pelting shed and trappers cabin. Each has been remodeled inside with all the amenities, and yet these cabins are still the old authentic structures, complete with hand hewn logs pulled into there current location by draft horses named Ted and Mouse.
Mickey was the anglo name for a Polish immigrant who came here by way of Ellis Island to fight forest fires in 1910. He stayed and took out a deed from President McKinnely and settled Abbott Valley. Our Irish parents came here after WWII and bought the homestead, adding timber lands to the north which is where the other homes are located. These homes were shelter to the loggers, who cleared Hungry Horse Reservoir in the late 1940's and early 1950's. Our family is proud of our diverse background and the heritage we share. Some of our family lives on the property and together we help maintain and share in the abundance around us.
We still run the ranch, and have some cattle and horses in the meadows who graze along side the deer, elk, moose and other wildlife all around us. We decided some 15 years ago to fix up the various cabins and homes and share them with guests traveling through the area. Many return year after year, and have "chosen" this place or that one as theirs, sharing their time in Montana and building family memories that have become a part of their own history.
Our location is ideal for a base if you are wanting to spend any amount of time in Glacier Park. We also have many trails, meadows, woods, beaver ponds and creeks to enjoy right here. Most importantly, being here is special and it is a wonderful time to connect with friends, family, each other and your soul. We encourage you to stay at Abbott Valley, and step into a world apart from the fast commercial pace that characterizes so much of life these days.
We enjoy our guests and when ever we can help answer a question or offer a suggestion on what to do, call on any one of us.
