Accommodations:  House, 4 Bedrooms, 2 Baths (Sleeps 10)

Our special vacation home on Edisto combines the best of having a dock on a quiet tidal creek plus ocean views and a short walk or bike ride to the beach. From our front porch, enjoy beautiful views of the ocean across the marsh -- and the creek, marsh and great sunsets from our back deck. Stately oaks overhang the creek, and our dock is just steps away from our door. Eddingsville Beach is one of the most quiet and pristine beaches ever! It is a get-away for relaxation at its best, whatever the season.

The house is designed with comfort and family times in mind. A large screened porch extends across the front of the house. With ceiling fans, teak dining table, comfortable rattan sofa and wooden rocking chairs, the porch provides a wonderful spot to relax with a cup of coffee in the morning or cocktails in the evening.

The large great room, with vaulted ceiling, heart pine floors, wood-burning fireplace and sectional sofa, has a look of casual elegance. TV with Dish Network satellite and a DVD player provide entertainment. The unique glass-top dining table, which seats 8, sits on the base of a huge grapevine and overlooks the porch.

Two master bedrooms, one on either side of the house, have king beds and doors that open to the screened porch, providing comfort and privacy for two couples. The third bedroom has two single beds, and the fourth has two bunk beds (double bed and double futon on the bottom and single beds on top). The house has two bathrooms, with walk-in showers, located on each side of the house in between two bedrooms. There also is an enclosed outdoor shower with dressing area – great for showering after a day at the beach.

The kitchen is fully stocked with everything you need to enjoy cooking, including low country cookbooks, wine glasses, china, lots of pots and pans, blender -- even a Belgian waffle maker. A breakfast bar with four barstools joins the kitchen with the great room.

In the backyard overlooking the creek and marsh, we have a wooden double swing, a hammock under the oaks for reading (or napping!), and a hot tub. The back deck has a gas grill, picnic table and comfortable Tropitone chairs, with the creek and marsh beyond. Enjoy the sights and sounds of the creek and marsh, watch the amazing sunsets, and just relax! Wildlife is abundant – fish, crab and shrimp in the creek, squirrels scampering through the trees, herons in the marsh, pelicans flying overhead, dolphins occasionally swimming up the creek, and Painted Buntings feeding at our bird feeders. For bird enthusiasts, it’s truly paradise!

You can get to the beach, about a third of a mile away, by bicycle or walking down the Jeremy Cay causeway through this quiet gated community. (Sorry -- the covenants of our Jeremy Cay membership permit golf carts only for owners). Two adult beach bikes/1 child's bike are included with the house rental; others can be rented locally, as can jon boats or kayaks, which allow beach access via the creek. If you have your own small boat, there is a landing located on Frampton Creek to put in, and you can dock it at our dock. Please note that property owners along the creek request that no jet skis be used in the creek.

The beach is very secluded and quiet, and many times when we walk out, we’re the only people on the beach. Eddingsville Beach is great for searching for shells, shark’s teeth, fossils and even pottery from the plantation summer homes that occupied the beach in the 1800's, until they were demolished by the hurricane of 1893. (We have several books about the history – and the ghosts – of Edisto Island and Eddingsville Beach for the history buffs in your group.)

Edisto Beach is five miles from the house; there you can pick up groceries at the Piggly Wiggly, enjoy several great seafood restaurants or Buck’s Pizza, play golf and tennis, or visit the Edisto Beach State Park. Charleston is an hour away for shopping, history and terrific restaurants of all kinds. In Charleston, there is a wide variety of things to do, like horse-drawn carriage rides through the historic city, the South Carolina Aquarium, Fort Sumter, the Charleston RiverDogs baseball team, etc. Savannah, Georgia, is about an hour and a half away.

This is a great vacation spot for you if you are looking for relaxing days on the beach and quiet evenings eating great food and having quality “family time.” We have books to enjoy, cards and games to play, puzzles to put together, and movies to watch. We hope that you will come and experience the peace, quiet and comfort that come with this special home. We know it won’t take long for you to unwind – and that it will be hard to leave – because that’s the lure of Edisto for us all.

The Best of Both -- Tidal Creek W/Dock and Clear Beach Views

Year Purchased: 2003

Why the Owner Chose Edisto Beach

We fell in love with this area of Edisto because of the view of the ocean from the front and the tidal creek at our back door. It's a wonderful combination -- and provides the "best of both worlds."

Owner's Map of Edisto Beach

Jim and Elizabeth Berry, and their children, Tripp and Cathryn, live in Summerville, SC. We love Edisto and have been visiting there since we were kids. Our home on Edisto Island, Berry'd Treasure, is a wonderful spot for quiet family vacations.

    • This is a beautiful home in a beautiful setting. The house is lovely, spacious and contains all amenities. The outside deck and screened porch provide two options for gorgeous views. The tidal creek is wonderful for swimming and boating at high tide (always wear shoes, oyster shells are sharp!) as well as crabbing (which provided hours of fun for the young and old). The hot tub (outside/screened) was wonderful after a bracing swim in the ocean (our stay was in April). The beach (wear shoes), accessed via a scenic walk or bike ride, is secluded. The kids boogie boarded with dolphins one day! We were so glad we selected this rental rather than a true "beach house" in Edisto Beach. There was so much more for the kids to do when we weren't beaching it, or the weather wasn't great (although mostly it was nice weather) and the setting was so beautiful. A must is to buy shrimp from one of the local seafood shops, boil it in Old Bay, then chow down out on the deck at sundown (or if you have a boat and the tide is high, have a sunset ride). I would rent this house again!

We have just returned home from our third visit to this beautiful island home. Once again our family enjoyed wonderful days of fossil hunting on the beach with evenings spent preparing meals in the well stocked kitchen, working puzzles, sitting by the fireplace, and watching our Tarheels take the national championship on satellite TV. We truly love this sanctuary where the birds awaken us to coffee on the deck, and we watch the moon rise over the marsh and ocean from the comfortable screened front porch. The house is in immaculate condition and would easily accomodate two families of four, with a master bedroom, bath, and twin room on each side of the house. The kitchen, great room, porch and deck allow plenty of room for games, puzzles, lounging, and TV. We recommend this home to anyone searching for peace and quiet in a natural setting. It is truly a refuge- you'll never want to leave!

    • What an incredible and restful time away! Your home is lovely and the setting is superb! We found more shells and fossils than on any other beach! The weather was perfect and God blessed us with peace and restoring rest. Your thoughtfulness in stocking the house was definitely appreciated!

From our guest book in June 2008: "We had 2 wonderful weeks, and your house is very comfortable. I can't think of anything we needed that we did not have in the house or in the kitchen. (I enjoyed reading the cookbooks.) We also enjoyed the outside shower. It reminded us of the great showers that were at an old beach house that we loved. We were lucky enough to see 2 dolphins feeding in the creek one night about dusk and I don't know who was more excited - the adults or the children! We kept hoping the dolphins would return but they never did. Of course we loved the birds! My daughter-in-law and grandaughter were thrilled with shells and artifacts they found on the beach. Thanks!

From our guest book from Thanksgiving 2007: "Thanks so much for allowing us to vacation in your beautiful home. The setting made our week here very special! We were visited on two different tides by dolphins feeding in the creek -- very exciting! We also enjoyed lots of different birds, including a bald eagle. Thanks again for enabling us to relax and have lots of fun. We will be back."
