The sand beach and emerald water viewed from private deck off bedroom
Location: Jacksonport, Door County, Wisconsin, USA (One mile north of Jacksonport, Wisconsin)
Accommodations: Year-Round Home, 3 Bedrooms, 2.5+ Baths (Sleeps 8)
Our all-season home was built to our design in 1994 and gets its name, Emerald Surf, from the emerald color of the Lake Michigan waters that are viewable from almost every room in the house at about 2PM on sunny summer days (see attached photo).
This three-bedroom home has a master bedroom on the main floor and guest bedroom on the second floor, each having queen-size beds and private balconies overlooking Lake Michigan. The master bedroom has a private bath and walk-in closet. Both lakeside bedrooms offer the peaceful sound of waves lapping at the shore all through the night.
The second floor also has a 3/4 bath and a "bunk room" with a double bed and a set of bunk beds. The second-floor carpeted loft, connected to the bedrooms by a cat-walk, has satellite TV/VCR/DVD as well as spectacular views of the lake and 25-foot Door County stone chimney soaring from the open lower level. Recliner chair and queen-size sleeper sofa in the loft accommodate all manner of vacation readers and snoozers.
The main floor has a spacious living/dining room and adjoining modern, fully equipped kitchen that includes a phone to call for reservations. Wood-burning fireplace features Door-County stone. Leather recliner on main floor accommodates special needs sleepers. Large outdoor decks overlooking the lake and sand beach are equipped with grills and outdoor furniture. A large managed area of sugar-sand beach begs budding architects to construct cities of sand castles. The lakeside fire-pit has firewood and tools for roasting hot dogs and making s'mores. A 12 foot diameter screenhouse/gazebo overlooking the beach provides bug-free dining, snoozing, or sleeping under the stars.
We provide free nation-wide calling and free high-speed wireless internet service throughout the home and also in the beach-side screenhouse.
Guests in 2009 frequently observed "our" bald eagle patrolling the beach for unsuspecting critters who might not be paying attention. Eagles have nested in the natural area across the road for the last several years and are a majestic site in the afternoon sun.
Pillows and blankets are provided, but you will be expected to bring your own bed linens and towels. A port-a-crib is available.
Maximum occupancy is eight people. Smoking is not allowed inside the home, and pets are not allowed on the property.
The property address is 6582 Highway 57, north of Jacksonport, WI. Send email request for additional photos.

Owner's Profile
Owner Description
Year Purchased: 1994
I am a climate scientist at Iowa State University. My research focuses on use of regional climate models to better understand trends and variability of climate and to understand the impacts of climate change on agriculture, water resources, human health and wind power generation. My collaborations take me to many interesting places around the world, but few have the natural beauty of Door County. I have been an author and reviewer of the the periodic reports of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, which was co-recipient, with Al Gore, of the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize. More details about my climate work can be found on my website: http://www.meteor.iastate.edu/faculty/takle/.
Why the Owner Chose Jacksonport
We built our home on this location in 1994 from a design I developed. We did not build the home for the purpose of renting it, but our schedules do not permit us to spend the entire warm season in Door County so we have decided to share the home with others.
The Unique Benefits of this Year-Round Home
I like to work outdoors, so when we are not enjoying the scenery, hiking, biking, golfing, boating, fishing, eating out, or just exploring, I enjoy working on my "farmette" at the corner of Fairview and Memorial. I have restored the barn and have planted large plots of wild flowers and annual flowering plants. Stop by and take a look during one of your explorations of the back roads of Door County.
