Casa Helena is a wonderful journey back to the charms and traditions of old time Taos.
Situated on a quarter acre of apple trees near Taos Plaza, Casa Helena offers guests a refreshing alternative from the generic vacation rental experience.
Many vacation rentals are condos or faux adobe-style homes. You won’t find Casa Helena in a condo complex or in the middle of the mesa with a bunch of new cinder block houses. It is located near Taos plaza, an easy ten minute walk to all restaurants, shops, coffee houses and famous watering holes!. The property was once part of a large orchard of apple trees. It was built in the 1950s by one of the old Taos families and has lovingly been cared for by subsequent owners.
Many Taos vacation rentals are operated by absentee owners or large impersonal property management companies. Casa Helena is privately owned and operated by Taos residents who want to offer their guests a warm and welcoming Taos experience.
To step into Casa Helena and/or guest house is to feel like you’ve traveled to a place full of old world flavor. It is a true thick-walled adobe home, adorned with antiques, original art, wood burning kiva fire places and portals. You will truly enjoy its comfort, authenticity and charm. It is finely decorated with custom cabinetry, colorful tile and copper work, oak and tile floors with a large spacious yard to enjoy by singles, couples and families. Both Casa Helena and guest house have wireless internet; cable TV and music systems.
What makes Casa Helena unique:
1)Casa Helena is Privately Owned and Operated: All negotiation and lodging details are worked out with the owners who are Taos residents and not a property management company. Owners will greet you upon your arrival, answer all questions and be available to you throughout your stay.
2)Concierge Service: Do you want a Taos excursion? A guided horseback tour or a visit to an artist studio? Maybe you want to visit the local’s favorite hot springs? The owners are there to assist you by offering insider’s recommendations and connections to all things interesting and unique in Taos.
3)Authentic: You won’t find RC Gorman posters on the wall. The art is fresh and original with authentic Southwest style furnishings. Outside you will find an outdoor adobe oven (horno) traditionally used by native populations for baking bread.
4)Location: Casa Helena is a quick 10 minute walk to Taos plaza and all restaurants, shops, galleries and famous watering holes! You can hear the music from the plaza in the summer. Leave the car behind, and walk to town for dinner and cocktails. Although close to the plaza, Casa Helena is away from a main road so guests have the sense of being away from town, yet still close.
5)Large Spacious Yard: Both Casa Helena and/or guest house is located on a large yard with many mature apple trees, flower beds and sitting areas. In the summer read a book in the shade or share a large dinner outside with friends. Children can run through the sprinklers or play tag in the yard. In the winter, build a snowman or light a fire in the chimineas. Casa Helena is great for families in any season.
Main House: 2-bedrooms, 2-baths. Authentic adobe home; large windows, custom copper work, colorful tile, wood floors, private master bath, custom cabinets in kitchen, wood burning kiva fireplace, combined dining/living room; washer and dryer. Spacious, light and roomy; 1,200 square feet.
Guest House: 1-bedroom, 1-bath; Wood burning kiva fireplace, Mexican tile floor, kitchenette, large portal, skylight in bedroom, pull-out sofa, custom cabinets, view of yard. Comfortable, private, romantic; 560 square feet.
Either house may be rented separately. If you need both a package rate can be negotiated.
Casa Helena also hosts Taos Inner Passages which offers off-the-beaten-path enriching and world class expeditions lead by a 25-year Taos resident. Ask for details.
