The Langston House, alongside Sweet Grass Creek, is surrounded by lovely cottonwood meadows on a 25,000-acre Montana cattle ranch at the foothills of the Crazy Mountains. You will enjoy total privacy and seclusion and private fishing along three miles of Sweet Grass Creek. Just you and the natural surroundings. A great place to relax and let go of the fast pace.
If you have tired of being in the throngs of people visiting Yellowstone Park, but not the spectacular scenery or the abundant wildlife that is Montana, this may be the perfect choice. Sweet Grass County, and the Crazy Mountains with its many well maintained hiking trails, offer some of the most beautiful landscape in Montana. Fishing on the world-renowned Yellowstone and Boulder Rivers is great and close by, but when you are ready to cast your fly without dozens of other people on either side of you, it is a quick trip back to your favorite fishing hole on Sweet Grass Creek. You'll notice the quiet. The beauty sinks in. You breathe deep and you relax.
Getting away from the hubbub is what a satisfying Montana vacation is all about, but when you feel the urge, you can travel to nearby Big Timber for fine dining, the museum, antiques, art galleries, or maybe a rodeo or other local cowboy event. Livingston offers even more choices just an hour away. But when it is done, the peace of the Sweet Grass beckons you home.
What can we say about sunrise on the Crazies? It is glorious. It is part of what sustains our Melville community, a traditional ranching community, some 125 years of tradition that remains largely unchanged in the last century. Cows and cowboys on a vast western landscape. Your home will be in the middle of a cherished western lifestyle carried on in the old cowboy way. Neighboring is a way life here.
Your home, while here, features two bedrooms. The main bedroom has a queen-size bed. The upstairs bedroom has two twin beds. Both have private baths with shower. The large kitchen is fully equipped with a refrigerator, range with oven, microwave, and dishwasher. The dining room, with seating for eight, and the cozy living room both have large, bright windows, perfect for viewing the wildlife, unaware, as they pass by.
This is a vacation spot that will leave you feeling refreshed and satisfied. Completely content. You will want to come back. We look forward to meeting you and welcoming you into our community.

We spent 7 magical days at the Langston Place on the WD Ranch. The scenery is wonderful and the peace, quiet and serenity priceless. The Langston Place has all the comforts of home. It is spacious and elegantly furnished with everything you could wish for. It was a real thrill to watch the deer, that call this special place home, from the kitchen and breakfast table. Elli and Paul are superb hosts and the highlight of our entire holiday was riding out on the ranch among the cattle with Paul. The meal we enjoyed at the ranch with our hosts was a real treat.

This is a true hidden gem. In a relatively undiscovered part of Montana, near the Crazies, next to the lovely Sweet Grass creek sits the perfect house for a get-away, or extended stay - yet it’s not far from other scenic wonders (Yellowstone Park and river, the charming small towns of Big Timber and Livingston – with good restaurants and grocery stores). The house has all the necessary amenities and then some, and your hosts are wonderful people who will go the extra mile to see that your stay is the best possible. From the neighbors who have a small commercial garden operation where you can buy tomatos, cucumbers, lettuce etc – to the incomparable starry nights and unbelievable quiet, you won’t have a moment’s regret if you make this your vacation spot.

The Langston House has comfort, isolation, a lovely stream running by, tall old cottonwoods, wonderful bird life and wildlife and fishing, prairie stretching eastward as far as the eye can see, and the magnificent Crazy Mountains filling the western sky. The sunsets and the stars must be seen to be believed. My wife and I have never been happier with a vacation rental.
