Upstairs in the airy living tower a 2nd bedroom (double, queen size, double sofa bed), again with ensuite shower/toilet,+ ceiling fan. All bedroom windows have mosquito screens
individual heating, electricy and water supply, private access road and parking
The lovely cottage 'Casa Capannina', a small semiattached quarrystone villa, is set slightly aside with its back to the other 3 buildings of Poderi Val Verde, which guarantees much privacy.
It was constructed with quarystones by the farmers when clearing woodlands and macchia slopes to prepare land for vineyards and olivegroves .Stones that traditionally were use for building houses or terrassed-walls. Its original use was as stable for cows . Prove of this gives the typical long house structure, its low ceilings and separate position.
This cottage, completely restored in 2009, when we also added additional living space (the 'tower') is the perfect location for honeymooners, 2 couples or a small family looking for privacy and peace - and is the perfect starting point for sightseeing since most important sights can be easily reached within an hours drive.
Especially here is the 'rule' - enjoy the sunset in complete silence from your terrace with its shady pavillon, garden furniture, sunbeds as well as a bbq. Gaze onto onto the extended gardens, the romantic creek and the surrounding maddows and vast macchia covered hills of this private property of more then 76 ha.
Start your hiking and biking directly form your doorsteps on well marked trails. Or simply take a stroll on our meditation trail along the small creek with its waterfalls, walk up to the waterlily pond or through the valley to the nearby town of Castellina in Chianti .
Or take a dip in the large community swimming pool that you share with very few other guests (5,5x11x1,50m and 2x3m splashpool entrance platform for the smallest, ). during cooler months of april and oct you may use the owner's covered (unheated) pool on request
The extended leisure areas and wellcared gardens of more then 2 ha , equipped with garden furniture, the childrens playground with soccer field, ping-pong table, sandbox with fairhouse and swing, .are the pride of the German owner and her staff. Cascades of flowers, rose bushes, citrus fruits as well as the surrounding meadows with many rare types of orchids and wild herbs create the unforgettable image of a lost paradise..
Animated is this small paradise by various cats, 2 freeroaming wellbehaved dogs (1 male, 1 lively female), a pictoresque small herd of cameroon sheep, chicken, geese, ducks, pigeons and more. Stunning the variaty of birds and butterflies as well as fireflies. And with a bit of patience one may also see wild boars, deer and roe deer, foxes, badgers and porcupines as well as the rare Tuscan eagle that breeds in our valley.
The housing complex is surrounded by grass, gravel - as well as terracotta paved walks and stairs which join the different levels with their romantic porches and apartments. Several natural quarry stone terraces with solitary trees like cypresses, acacia, pine and oak trees are leading to the small creek where the real wild nature begins.
Admire the increditable variaty if wild flowers and walk along small trails that we cut right through the maddows - amazing the spectacle of fireflies in late May and June, the rare songs of the our numerous nightingales and the concert of hundreds of birds in the morning and evening. Because of its privacy and our efforts this is still a rare paradise - and only minutes from the next town center !!!
When planing your trip take in consideration that due to our perfect location, most important sights can be easily reached within 1 hours drive. Also please dont forget to leave some space for one of the many concerts, horseback riding or some evening with newfound friends or maybe a halfday cookery course with local dishes. Extremes like biking on the new trail up at the Apennin mountains or island hoping on the Tuscan coast are also possible.
Enjoy a dream vacation in Tuscany's heart - the 'Chianti Classico' region - only few miles from Florence and Siena, easy to reach from Pisa and Florence airport - surrounded by the the world-famous landscape of extended vineyards, silvery olive groves, vast forests, colorful macchia and solitary estates.
The 16th century privately owned Val Verde - a 76 ha large property, is situated inmidst the natural resort area of the 'Oasis del Chianti'- which guarantees absolute privacy and peace. Its various farmhouse accommodations are situated only 2 kilometres from the famous wine town Castellina in Chianti with shopping facilities and restaurants.
Other famous towns and cities such as Florence, Siena, Greve, Radda, Gaiole, as well as San Gimignano, Lucca, Pistoia, Arezzo are very close, some less then 1 hour by car.
If you drive a bit more, you will find Cortona, Perugia or Pisa; even day trips by train or car to Rome, Milano or Venice are possible.
In this small family style hamlet our sophisticated guests will find undisturbed and unspoiled nature, silence, sun, good food (cookery courses) and fantastic wines.

- Poderi Val Verde - an authentic farm estate from the 16th century – located only 2 km from the wine town of Castellina in Chianti and within 1 hours drive to most famous sights of Tuscany is a real “living” farm – with farm and court yard animals , free roaming dogs and cats - in a surrounding and live style of “once up the time” . Its a place for the individual travellers, looking for something different – for the feeling of solitute, peace and untouched nature. For people that like good original food (on-site dinners and cookery classes) and good wines. For people that like to explore the country side by bike or by foot and next to visiting the countless cultural sights will also find time to attend one of the many cultural events such as opera, concerts, etc. For people that include in the plans a visit to the many Thermal springs and spas as well as the beaches and marble caves of the Versiglia. For people that enjoy travelling in the colder months when Tuscany seems to hibernate into the past. When in restaurants you find only locals and tourists are greeted with a welcoming smile , museums and other cultural places are empty and the Chianti belongs to only you. When the air is heavy with the smell of the many fire places, the new young wine , the freshly pressed olive oil, grilled game meat and the famous bistecca . Poderi Val Verde (Farmhouses in the green valley) was restored in 1998 and retouched in 2012. It was left itentially rustic – original fire plces, cotto floors, beams, roofs and many little architectural particularities that mark centuries of living in this place. We are fully aware that with this we are going against the usual main stream of modern design. When you step into our accommodations – you seem to step back into the past – rooms , setting and furnishing are according to the “Arte Povera” – as it used to be – as you saw it in films such as “under the Tuscan sun” or in “Romeo and Juliette” - but functional as in any modern house. Shady rose-covered loggias and sunny terraces with nices views are part of this all. As most really old farm houses it was built in a large, open, sun-filled valley, thus protected from cold north winds and wet fogs, ventilated by warm south winds in the afternoon, with pleasant cool night temperatures due to the surrounding macchia and woods and with unlimited supplies of fresh well water. The famous ancient “mules trail” passed through here – mules transported salt from the salt mines of sicily to the north – trails that always followed the course of water and wells and developed into important traffic venes. Prove of this are the many monastries and cloisters and farm houses that you find along this old road, which i salso part of our trekking “network”. Here you can spend your dream vacation – right in the heart of Tuscany – the Chianti Classico” - only a few miles from Florence and Siena – in a region of vineyard covered hills, silvery olive groves, vast forests and colourful macchia slopes - and admidst hidden ancient farm houses guarded by cypresses and towering pinetrees Surrounded by more then 2ha of wellcared parklike garden – unlike any other you might find - sits the imposing guest house complex which is dived in 3 apartments (2-4 Pers.) , and/or 2 semiattached houses 'Casa Pineta (8-13 pers.) + 'Casa Acacia (6-8 pers.) as well as the lovely small villetta 'Casa Capannina ' (4- 6 pers.). The community pool of 5,5x11 m with extended leisure areas and surrounding gardens as well as sports facilities is open as of mid may . During the cooler months you may use the a small covered (not heated) pool of the property owner, the only of its kind in the area. ...moreless

“Full of Tuscan charm” Reviewed June 7, 2013 My friend and I arrived at Poderie Val Verde to a very warm welcome from Ulrike despite the pouring rain. We opted for the welcome dinner which was a true delight, all hand cooked by Ulrike where we met the other guests staying in the other villas. This was a very enjoyable evening and I would highly recommend it. Poderie Val Verde is a great location situated right in the middle of the Chianti region, but within easy access of all the major tourist sites. It took us 1 hour to get to Florence airport and about half an hour to get to Sienna and San Gimignano. Castellina in Chianti was only a 5 minute drive from the Villa where there is a very good Co op food store where you could buy all that you need without travelling further. There are also many good restaurants to choose from. The villa we stayed in was called La Capannina which we found to be very comfortable and very clean. It was full of Tuscan charm and in a wonderful setting. The kitchen was very well equipped with ample room for dining inside or outside on the terrace. We were often joined for dinner by Ricardo the friendly peacock or even the cats. The beds were very comfortable. Upstairs there is a double and downstairs 2 twin beds. While we were there the weather was unseasonably cold but there were plenty of extra blankets provided to keep you warm. The garden is really quite beautiful and very well kept. It is such a shame that we never got the chance to use it as it looked so inviting. We found Ulrike to be very friendly and helpful at all times ( even when we locked ourselves out of the villa on 2 occasions). Due to the weather Ulrike even organised a day for us to go to the spa, which we felt was above what she needed to do. In our opinion nothing was too much trouble for Ulrike. She wants her guests to be happy while they are staying in her lovely home. I would certainly recommend Poderie Val Verde and I hope that we will return again. Stayed May 2013, traveled with friends

“La Capannina Poderi Val Verde review by Aldo.” Reviewed June 22, 2013 The welcoming dinner, cooked by Ulrike should not be missed. Fantastic pesto pasta with choices of various pestos. Insalata and meat dish. House wine very good. We had unusually cool and rainy weather, and use of the fireplace in the lounge was a necessity, Very clean, comfortable beds, very nice bathrooms. The patio is very large, dining table and lounge chairs. Quite private. Very short drove to Castellina, which has always been one of our favorite Tuscan towns, with very nice restaurants and shopping. The town has a useful Co-op and several good mini-groceries. Also close to Fonterutoli, an excellent winery with a well known chianti and a new restaurant. Go to Fonterutoli for lunch or dinner, best in the area. Stayed June 2013, traveled with friends

authentic country experience in the chianti region
"Authentic country experience in the Chianti region" Poderi Val Verde is a secluded farm located close to the small town of Castellina in Chianti. There are different types of accommodations on the rustic property with several hiking trails. We chose to stay in the two bedroom cottage since we were traveling with another couple and wanted space to visit. The cottage was clean, quiet and well equipped. The entire property is rustic with no service staff other than the owner, so if you are seeking luxury, this is not the location for you. Unfortunately the weather was colder than expected. Due to local ordinance we could not have heat and the old building was somewhat cold at night. We were not seeking luxury however and wanted to experience the life of the Tuscan people. The owner, Ulrike Eder, was very helpful in steering us toward authentic and unique experiences of the area. As a result we made some wonderful and unexpected memories. We ate the welcome dinner on Saturday and breakfast on the porch daily. The food was well prepared, plentiful and authentic to the region. Castellina is a charming town with surprisingly good restaurants and shops. The location is within an easy drive of Florence, Siena, Lucca and many other towns. We also toured several wonderful wineries and experienced the best of Chianti wines. Overall the trip was exactly what we expected both from the accommodations and the region.

new home away from home
"New Home away from Home" If you are looking for a true Tuscan experience, a stay at Poderi Val Verde is it! This little cluster of ancient Tuscan buildings once part of the Casanova Ricavo, is set in a private valley and now also serves as a working farm. But don't let the words ancient or farm scare you. Our 2 bedroom cottage had been fully renovated with the most up to date amenities while still maintaining it's authentic soul and charm. The real soul of Poderi Val Verdi though is the owner Ulrike. Her pride of ownership and passion for Tuscan culture can be felt in everything. From the welcome dinner of the freshest foods harvested from the farm and made from recipes pasted down from many generations, to breakfast on the deck of just plucked eggs and zucchini flowers, everything was thoughtful, delicious and so full of love. As an experienced cook myself, the cooking class was a really pleasant surprise. The recipes shared were so authentic and old they are ones you would never find in a cookbook. They included wild game caught on the property, veggies from the garden, and of course lots of the fantastic local wines. On top of that, Ulrike made it so much fun! One week was not long enough, and we are already talking about when we will return next.

ruhiges ferienhaus - ideal fuer familien

great locationGuest comment entered by owner
“Great location!” Reviewed June 12, 2011 2 people found this review helpful A large group of family and friends rented the main villa and cottage for a week. The owners Urlike and her gorgeous son Fabion were the perfect hosts! They were very anxious to offer advice on daily trips and local events. The rooms were clean and the villa was spacious, had all the amenaties and perfect to be with with family and friends. (I highly recommend if you rent the villa and want to be away from the group to get the downstairs room, your own terrace, side living area with kitchen, very cute). The property was adorable, centered in it's own valley, surrounded by flowers, farm and wildlife(although I could have done without the rooster). One of my highlights was being able to hold a one day old sheep and seeing a porcupine that Fabion killed with his bow and arrow (with assistance from Todo one of the family dogs...it might be road kill to some, but an adventure for a Florida girl). I could not have imagined a better location!! You must check out the small towns and vineyards nearby, they were by far my favorite, above the touristy areas like Florence and Siena (which were only 30-45 minutes away). Rada, San Gimingano, Castel Brolio and their own town of Castellini are MUSTS! (For the ladies out there, do not pass up the leather purses in San Gimigano for hopes of better prices in a large city, it will not happen and I regret waiting!). I was staying on the property at the same time as the previous reviewers(they would not talk to any of the guests)...please do not let their view taint you . I will only agree that the beds were not the best regarding comfort, a little lumpy, but after day 2 we were so tired from all of our adventures that you were out as soon as your head hit the pillow. Yes it is not a frilly or fancy it is like a home. For me, you make romance anywhere you are and I would much rather enjoy experiencing the locals, they way they live and the area, than be secluded, isn't that what traveling is all about? One other piece of advice for those that do not like to follow the tourist buses and mobs. On the drive up from Rome go up the coast to the villa and stop by the island of Monte Argentario, then when you go back to Rome you have to stop by Oriveto! Stayed May 2011, traveled with family

About the owner: The German owner Ulrike with her son Fabian (presently in Germany) both English speaking outgoing and openminded people that will gladly be of assistance and share their experiences with their many international guests.
Why the Owner Chose Castellina in Chianti:
Was infected with the 'Tusan virus' after my first visit (like so many others) some 30 years ago and after various vacations decided to finally settle in the heart of Tuscany - the Chianti Classico' area. Here I found everything I ever longed for - nature, peace, clean air, good food and fantastic wines and culture of the highest level. After some years I decided to share my experiences (also cooking) with guest from all over the world and opened a rental activity.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
there are few places that are so central to everything, and offer so much - located only 500 m from the main road but in absolute silence of the surrounding nature (the only nature preserve area in the Siena region) - you are closed to most important sights and places of Tuscany - 5 min to the next town, so social contacts are guaranteed - less then 1 hours from the next major airport (Florence) so getting here is no problem - fantastic marked trekking trails starting from your doorstep (stunning nature in winter or spring) , biking of the finest (on the tracks of the Giro d'Italia, golfing with the elite, or simply enjoying a glass of wine, some pecorino cheese on your personal patio, watching deer and wild boar pass by, Tuscan eagles soaring above this magnificant privately owned valley - what can one ask more for
