We are a NYC couple with 2 boys, 12 and 18 years old and we've just returned from yet another incredible vacation in St. John. We've stayed at Coconut Hill Cottage several times and love it! The house is impeccably clean, very private and so comfortable! My older son sleeps in the loft (bed is big enough for two if needed). The two downstairs bedrooms are wonderful too (the second bedroom has a trundle, sleeps two). The master bedroom is delightful and has a great mattress! There are 3 bathrooms! My favorite spot is the screened in porch with a breathtaking view of Coral Bay from 800 feet, as well as the neighboring islands. The grill and pool out back are great for dinners at home! Dr. Bob and Susan are always available for dining, shopping, beach suggestions. If you decide to cook at home be sure to visit the local organic farm called Josephines! Amazing greens!!! Do not miss Aqua Bistro - M. J. the Chef is amazing!!! The island is about the same size as Manhattan and this is the perfect homey base from which to explore all it has to offer under its almost always sunny skies!

The photos are very accurate but can't describe the beautiful air, the peace and quiet of being on this mountain, in this comfortable home, with the warmth and helpfulness of it's hosts. The location in Coral Bay was perfect for us; more low key than Cruz Bay, but easy access to all the beaches and 20 minutes from the Cruz Bay, if you're looking for more shops, restaurants etc. We loved going to Bordeaux Cafe for lunch, and Aqua Bistro for dinner. Both nearby. We have been at Coconut Cottage as a couple and had 4 guests. The house is very accomodating to up to six people. We love it!

We have been visiting St. John every other year for the last 8 years. Alternating visits with cruises. Two years ago we stayed at Coconut Hill Cottage in Coral Bay. Last year we did a Panama Canal cruise which was as nice as any cruise we've done before, but we found ourselves longing for St. John, so this year we went back to Coconut Hill Cottage since we had enjoyed our stay there so much before. It was the most relaxing and enjoyable vacation we have ever had. It was almost like returning home in that the cottage is so beautiful and Sue and Bob (owners) make you feel so welcome and comfortable. The cottage is perfectly situated for breath taking views and trips to the beach or nearby restaurants. It is completely private with a deck and pool as pictured, but the nicest feature is the large screened in porch. Since the porch was screened, it becomes added living space day and night, and the view from the porch is absolutely beautiful! How well did we like our second stay at Coconut Hill Cottage? We already made reservations for next year, is there anything more to say?

We had a wonderful time in St John, partly because of this wonderful home we got to come back to each night. The pictures don't do the villa justice, it is incredibly beautiful and perfectly decorated. The views are spectacular from the screened porch as well as the loft bedroom (great for sunrises). The home is stocked well with most anything you could need while there. We enjoyed the small cooler, beach towels and chairs as well as the books up stairs that helped us better navigate the island and determine which fish we had seen that day. The property is extremely secluded and private. It was so nice to be on the quiet side of the island. Would highly recommend to anyone!

My wife and I chose the Coconut Hill Cottage for our honeymoon and first stay on St. John. The house was exactly as described, if not better. Due to Sue and Bob's numerous provided conveniences and amenities (down to the anti-itch bug bite treatment), it did not feel as though you were staying in a rental of a stranger, rather a home of a friend. The house was immaculate, the furniture was comfy and the appliances worked well. Despite all of these fabulous aspects, we could hardly tear ourselves away from the large screened-in-porch that provided one of the most impressive views we found during our travels on St. John. Sue and Bob were incredibly friendly, helpful and a pleasure to work with. If you are traveling to St. John, the assumption is you want to get away from the hussle-bustle of everyday life. Coconut Hill Cottage could not be a better place to do just that and we highly recommend it to everyone that makes the trip. Josh & Emily Romine

My wife and I just spent a week at this wonderful house for our 1st trip to St. John (Feb. 2011). We were looking for a quiet place high up with great views, away from the resort crowds and cruisers in Cruz Bay. Quick access to lots of beaches was also important to us because we wanted to snorkel and swim every day. Coconut Hill was the perfect place for us. It's up on the side of the hill with incredible views looking to Coral Bay and the BVI to the east. As some of the other reviewers mentioned, the screened in porch is really a great feature of this house. The porch was one of the selling points for us (not many houses have this - and I did a lot of searching). It was a perfect place to enjoy breakfasts and dinners and quiet evenings without worries about mosquitoes. The cottage was everything we could have asked for, and everything we needed was provided. I can't think of a single thing that we thought was missing. There's even wireless internet service. It was nice to have access to all of the beach gear (chairs, towels, umbrellas, coolers, ice packs, mats, etc) which we just loaded up in the jeep every morning before heading out for the day. We only cooked once. For the rest of the dinners we ordered take-out from the restaurants in Coral Bay and brought them back to enjoy on the porch. Our favorites were Sweet Plantains (great for a vegetarian), Aqua Bistro, and Donkey Diner pizza. All these places were just a 5 minute drive down the hill. There are also 2 small grocery stores in town where you can get the basics (Cruz Bay has the larger supermarkets). Make sure you get out to Vie's snack shack near the east end beaches for the best conch fritters (no need to pack a lunch that day). Finally, St. John is known for great snorkeling, and that's why we came. The Coral Bay location was perfect for accessing the best snorkeling/beaches on the island. North shore, east end, and Salt Pond Bay drives were all 20 minutes or less. We snorkeled 9 different beaches in 6 days. Our favorite was Waterlemon Cay, where we saw turtles, spotted eagle ray, sting rays, large flounder, filefish, porcupine fish, barracuda, and a sleeping nurse shark. Haulover North was 2nd favorite, and we were lucky to be there on a calm day with the ocean to ourselves (best reefs are out to the left). We definitely recommend Coconut Hill Cottage, and we will be back soon!

My husband and I stayed at Coconut Cottage in late Jan/early Feb 2011. The location was excellent... high above Coral Bay, nice breezes and stupendous views. We especially loved the screen porch and spent most of our time (when at the house) there! Owners Sue and Bob were very accommodating. We would recommend this for families understanding that two of the bedrooms are on the lower level. The two of us used the loft instead of the lower bedrooms. Mary and Rick Callan

My family and I stayed there this past week and had a wonderful time there. Pictures really don't do the view justice; you have to see it for yourself. The house not only is nicely done and has all the conveniences (and is a good value for the rate, BTW), but is also in a nice natural setting there up on the hillside overlooking Coral Bay. Hearing the tree frogs and birds amongst lovely flora is wonderful. Even my technology-addicted children managed to get in the groove there, haha! (my 8 YO son took over the loft and was in 7th heaven!) This is the third time my wife and I have visited St. John, and in our experience, staying on the Coral Bay side up in the hills is more comfortable, less crowded and still within easy reach of the North Shore beaches, etc. We just threw the snorkeling gear and an ice chest into the jeep and went to a different georgeous beach every day. I give it three thumbs up!

Your cottage is beautiful and the view amazing. The kitchen well stocked, the furniture beautiful, the decorations charming and the towels soft. The Lani a wonderful place to read and eat. There were plenty of books and St John guides. Lienster, Maho and Salt Pond were just 15 min away. We snorkeled and saw turtles, rays, squids, an eel and and sea star. At Haulover Bay, Drunk Bay and at the bay at Lucy's we found shells, sea urchins, coral, sea fans and some sea biscuits. With Prirate Penny, in the BVI, we crawled over granite boulders and snorkeled the Indians, which were filled with sea life.

Coral Bay is where you want to be when you visit St John. It's the quiet side of the Island, the scenic side, the non-turist side, the side right next to the North Shore Beaches which are why you should go to St. John's in the first place. On a clear day from the porch on Coconut Hill you will be able to see to Virgin Gorda and beyond. At night you will look across to the lights of Tortola. Having the owners as your next door neighbors can benefit you in many ways as it did us when our rental car pulled up lame on a late rainy night. What could have easily turned into a two day dog and pony show was quickly resolved by owners Bob and Susan with one phone call. Enjoy.

This house has the best down island views, is beautifully decorated, and unbelievably comfortable. We absolutely loved our week long stay. The only rainy day we had was spent on the screened in porch - reading, relaxing, and enjoying the views. The rest of the days were spent scuba diving, snorkeling, swimming, hiking and of course eating great food. Sweet Plantains, Skinny Legs, Donkey Diner, Island Blues, and Miss Lucy's are all just down the hill. Chateau Bordeaux is open again - serving dinner by reservation - and isn't too far a drive either. St John is truly a spectacular island for those that enjoy the beach, the water, and other outdoor activities! Susan and Bob are really great hosts, and provide the perfect amount of island information upon request. We also really liked that they are on property, but not visible - plenty of tropical vegetation provides plenty of privacy.

My family and I were fortunate enough to stay at this villa in beautiful coral bay. Perfectly near the best of coral bay donkey diner, shipwreck and skinny legs. The house is not a bad drive at all, the road to the house is paved and the home is very private. We had our two children with us ages 3 and 7 this was the perfect house for us with small children all the amenities were there, swimmies, noddles, goggles, towels i mean there is nothing you wont have in this fine home. Bob and Sue from my home town in NYC were the sweetest and luckiest (because they live there) If you've never stayed in Coral bay before do yourself a favor, we got to really see a part of st. john in a different light every year we visit st.john and always visit coral bay for the food and atmosphere but this year staying in coral made our return home so much harder to adjust to. Planning our 2010 trip already.

Beautiful view, very clean and cozy house, great amenities! We had a wonderful time and will surely be back! Pool didn't get much sun, but you have the beaches which were perfect!
Owner response:The lush vegetation which gives the house and pool so much privacy....plus the fact that the sun is at it's lowest point in the sky...account for there being less sun on the pool in January than during the rest of the year.

We loved our stay there last October. Sue was awesome to work with and a great help. The place was clean and the views were spectacular. The screened in lanai was so nice for dinner in the evenings. All of the extra amenities like A/C in the master suite, washer/dryer and wireless Internet were great too. The location is perfect for the Coral Bay visitors.
