Why the Owner Chose Homes, Single Family
Fort Morgan is the perfect place for a vacation! It is close to several large cities, but feels so far off the beaten path. We love our neighborhood of "single-family only houses" - no busy commercial developments or condos for us! We didn't need or want elevators, pools or heavy, self-closing doors...open decks, large windows, comfy beds, big kitchen and a short stroll to the beach. That's what we wanted, and that's what we love about our place. You will too.
The Unique Benefits at this House
This area is rich in history, nature, and man-made interests. Fort Morgan was made famous in the Civil War battle for control of Mobile Bay. Union Admiral Farragut brought his fleet past the fort, wandered into a torpedo field, and famously cried "damn the torpedos, full speed ahead", ultimatley winning the three week battle against Admiral Buchanan for control of the fort.
We are surrounded by the Gulf Islands National Seashore, and we regularly enjoy the many trails and protected beaches in the area. Don't miss an easy hike to "Shell Beach" - the name says it all! Fishing in Mobile Bay or out in the gulf is easy, and there are lots of charter boats just minutes away at the Fort Morgan marina. So much to do...or so little - you decide!
Owner's Map of Homes, Single Family
We both grew up near the beaches in Southern California and always dreamed of owning a house at the beach. We found Fort Morgan, only 2 hours away from our home (at the time), and fell in love with the area immediately! We built "On Dune Pond" just for us, and now we are happy to share it with you & your family. Our daughter was nine years old when we started coming over for quiet weekends, and she loved her time on the sand, in the sea, and learning about the constellations. Now she shares this place with everyone through her photos. We know you will enjoy your vacation here!

On Dune Pond was perfect for our family of five, plenty of space to spread out with a short walk to the beach in a quiet, restful area. This house had everything we could want or need (including WiFi), it was clean and comfortable. The kitchen was well stocked with anything you could want to cook with, the only thing I couldn't find that would have made it "home for me" was an apple slicer, but hey - the knives were sharp and worked great! We went in to Gulf Shores (about 20 miles) stocked up on breakfast, lunch and dinner and spend the majority of our week at the beach or the house. Late evening walks looking for crabs was so much fun, some nights we found lots other nights we rarely saw them. It was so relaxing and nice not to be in the midst of a crowd of people. We did venture in for a meal at Lambert's Cafe, which is a must if you love family style home cooked food, but be prepared for a wait, ours was only about 30 minutes around 2 pm. We took the Ferry on the way over and we were stirred away by some locals from LuLu's because they said, "long waits, lots of people, commercialized and average food" not our thing. They did recommend a place called Bahama Bob's, but we didn't make it there, but they raved about the food, but warned us that the seating is "cozy". We also visited the USS Alabama, which was super interesting, but very hot the day we went. We also visited Fort Morgan which is a great place to take pictures with some very vintage backgrounds with different stones and bricks and excellent lighting! Soul Surfer came out on DVD while we were there, so we watched it and it was a great beach movie, we highly recommend it! Because On Dune Pond is a" little isolated" it really fostered family time for us, which we needed coming from a very busy, urban lifestyle. Finally, the decor and details in the house are all beach themed, super-duper cute! Sue (owner) was very helpful and easy to work with and described the property and location perfectly. We would certainly recommend this property to our friends and relatives and hope one day we can come back! We stayed at Destin a couple of years ago and it was too commercialized and crowded; for our family Fort Morgan was a "shore thing"! Thanks for a perfect time away!
Owner response:So glad you had such a wonderful week at "On Dune Pond"! I use an apple slicer at home, so it will be added this fall to the beach house inventory - thanks for the idea! We think the best thing about Ft Morgan is the quiet, out-of-the-way location; it's the main reason we have invested there. Thanks for wanting to return!

Our families first visit to Fort Morgan/Gulf Shores area could not have been better. "One Dune Pond" was exactly what I would want if I owned a beach house! Plenty of space and three very comfy bedrooms. Sue thought of everything-- and things you never knew you needed :) The house was immaculate when we arrived and was well maintained. A very quiet area and perfect if you need some down time! The white beaches were gorgeous! I would highly recommend this property. I hope that my family and I will be able to return again soon. We spent a lot of time on the beach, just steps away. Dauphin Island is a fun day trip. Kids loved the ferry .Shopping is just a few minutes away in Gulf Shores. If you like seafood-we really enjoyed the casual--Shrimp Shack. Thanks Sue for a wonderful, memorable vacation. No signs of the oil spill during our visit. We will pray that will remain the case. We had a wonderful vacation last summer when we stayed at On Dune Pond. Our entire family fit in the home comfortably. It had a well stocked kitchen, and even had games & outdoor toys for the kids to play with. The balcony was delightful with breezes and a view of the Gulf with dolphins leaping in the waves. It was so relaxing, it felt like home.

We had a wonderful week in this charming home. Our vacation was effortless because of all the features this house offered. We searched many sites and found this to be the best price, extremely clean, beautiful furnishings, and comfortable. We just booked our second year at this home and know we will keep coming back!
