Enjoying the views and gardens at Fern Grotto Inn

VRBO Bear stayed here - 10/24/2008 My recent stay at the Fern Grotto Inn was made memorable by the beautiful gardens at the entrance of property and the home’s historic value. As far as bears go, I like to think I’m pretty cultured, and I could tell right away that this home had been truly cared for. This Hawaiian plantation cottage was nicely decorated, beautifully furnished and well-equipped.

I enjoyed eating honey at the large wooden table in the dining area, big enough to fit all the hungry bears in my group. The table was perfect for board games at night, when we relaxed from a long & eventful day. The Kauai sun can be pretty strong, especially with all our fur, so it was nice to come home to air-conditioning, which can be a rare commodity in Hawaii. At the end of the day, we cooled down on the comfortable Adirondack chairs outside the cottage which were positioned perfectly to capture the evening shade.

The comforts of this cottage were equally matched by its convenience. The cubs certainly appreciated the proximity to the airport after traveling for so many hours. The Wailua River and Lydgate Park were within walking distance, and there were a variety of restaurants to choose from, even for our pickiest bears. We were also able to explore other parts of the island, like Princeville and Hanalei, in just a short drive. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Fern Grotto Inn, whether we were exploring the local attractions or taking advantage of the comforts of the cottage.

    • We had a lovely stay at the Ohana House. We were married in their beautiful gardens and we appreciate how Paul and Nausheen made us feel so welcome for our special day.

    • Wonderful garden. Good location, close to Lydgate Park and 1/2 way to Poipu and Ke'e Beaches. The kitchen was roomy and stocked with spices, garbage bags, etc. The beds and bathrooms were comfortable. A very enjoyable stay.

    • Dear Juma Family, Our stay at the Fern Grotto Inn was everything we hoped for. We rented all of the cottages and Ohana House. Ohana was perfect for the family grathering. The classic country kitchen large enough to accomodate all of the cooks and seat everyone. From reading material and games, beach equipment and coolers, and even a crib and booster seat you have thought of everything. The location is perfect to so many things on the island. Just withing a few miles of our "Ohana Home", there was so much to do. Our 40th wedding anniversary was made even more special by the beautifully kept homes and grounds. We hope to be back soon. • Paul & Nausheen Thank you for sharing your lovely bit of Kauai with us. This is a great location - a good walk to the beaches a short drive to the shops. Your kindness and hospitality were much appreciated (& we were so happy to have that electric tea kettle, Paul). Mahalo Barry & Jeanette

    • A beautiful property. We stayed in the Ohana House, and were very pleased. It was clean, spacious, and exceeded all of our expectations. It is off the main road, so the only noise is the occasional roster. The house itself is beautiful. We were very pleased at how large and well stocked the kitchen was -- everything from a blender to a dishwasher (and multiple gas grills outside!). And each of the three bedrooms has its own bathroom. Only a short walk to the beach (although you have to cross a busy intersection). Paul and his family were wonderful hosts, and I hope to return again.

    • We took over the big house and two of the cottages for a week for a 50th birthday (dubbed Hawaii five-0) family gathering. As good as Fern Grotto looked on line, it was even much better in person. The houses have been restored with such loving care, and we could all gather at Ohana. The hospitality was first rate, and location perfect...not too touristic, very old Hawaii. Loved it, and hope to come back, Barry

Dear Paul & Nausheen Wow!! What a wonderful time we have had in your tropical paradise. We felt at home the minute we walked into the cottage. What a warm feeling. May you be blessed with many more visitors that love the cottage as much as we do. So much that we hope to return very soon. Thank you for your kindness & kind ways. You have a wonderful family & a wonderful retreat. Mahalo The Stuebbe's

    • I organized the trip for my husband and I and two of my best friends and their spouses in Kapaa for a mutual friend's wedding. Wow did we make the right choice! Staying at the Fern Grotto Inn was perfect for our group of 6 adults. We each were able to have our own bedroom and bathroom giving the perfect amount of privacy & personal space. The home was tastefully decorated and perfectly accommodating. We loved having the washer and dryer and the free WIFI to stay connected to home. Thanks Paul! Our gracious hosts, Paul and Nausheen were wonderful. Prior to our arrival, they converted the two twins to a king for one of our couples. When we inquired about boogie boards, they realized they were "running low" and went immediately to purchase some for our recreation. It made for many fun days at the beautiful Kauai beaches! We would definitely love to return to the Ohana house or another one of their houses. P.S. Their boy and girl toddlers are also the cutest things I've ever seen.:)

Paul & Nausheen We had such a blast! You thought of everything for this place. It was great to be so close to things when we wanted to go out - and great to be able to stay in and cook. We hope to be able to come back again. Thanks again! The Rasmussen's from Minnesota

    • Our family (six adults) had the most wonderful time staying in Ohana House. The separated bedrooms gave us privacy when we wanted it, and the fabulous "community room" (kitchen/dining area) provided a great area for us all to hang out together. The home is wonderfully appointed with great attention to details. You truly feel like you are in your own Hawaiian home. The central location of the property in relation to the rest of the island makes it convenient to see the many splendors Kaua'i has to offer. Paul, Nausheen and their adorable twins are wonderful hosts. We will definitely be coming back!
