Surrounded by state park land on all sides we are situated a Block from the Beach in Hawaii's largest coconut grove. Centrally located in the town of Kapaa, the fully restored plantation-style cottages are a 30 minute drive to either the North or South Shore. Fern Grotto Inn offers affordability and easy access to pristine beaches, good restaurants, shopping, and a host of other land and water activities for every interest.

Coco Cottage is a large 600 sq.ft. air conditioned studio unit with a kitchen, tiled floors, sofa bed, a private yard with grill, picnic bench, hammock & chairs. Coco cottage is perfect for couples and small families. It can accommodate 2 adults and 2 kids. A full kitchen compliments this unit as does its private location. This cottage rents for $169 a day plus tax of 13.42% and a clean out fee of $100.
River Cottage Built in 1943 and remodeled in 2005, this beautiful 500-square-foot studio cottage has original hardwood floors, a full kitchen, air conditioning, and a private lanai. This romantic cottage offers luxurious comfort. The cottage accommodates 2 and rents for $149 a night plus tax of 13.42% and a clean out fee of $100.
Canal Cottage was built in 1953 and remodeled in 2008, This 700 square foot cottage is divided into two studio units. The rooms are furnished in a tropical style and offer comfortable accommodations for two.
Unit A has a fully equipped kitchenette and rents for $119 a night plus tax of 13.42% and a clean out fee of $85.
Unit B has a private lanai/patio but no kitchenette. There is a microwave, mini refrigerator, coffee maker and toaster, but no kitchen sink and no cooking facilities. This room rents for $99 a night plus tax of 13.42% and a clean out fee of $70.
Garden Cottage Built in 1942 & remodeled in 2006, this 400-square-foot studio cottage has air conditioning, hardwood floors, tiled bathroom, a queen bed and a river & garden view. The cottage accommodates 2 and rents for $109 a night plus tax of 13.42% and a clean out fee of $70.
Fern Grotto Inn is located on the bank of the Wailua River on the beautiful Island of Kauai. It is a five minute walk to the uncrowded, sandy beaches that dot this section of Kauai's world famous coastline. At your doorstep is the river dock where you can launch your own Kayak onto the Wailua River to explore and hike to Secret falls, which has a natural swimming hole at its base.

My recent stay at the Fern Grotto Inn was made memorable by the beautiful gardens at the entrance of property and the home’s historic value. As far as bears go, I like to think I’m pretty cultured, and I could tell right away that this home had been truly cared for. This Hawaiian plantation cottage was nicely decorated, beautifully furnished and well-equipped.
I enjoyed eating honey at the large wooden table in the dining area, big enough to fit all the hungry bears in my group. The table was perfect for board games at night, when we relaxed from a long & eventful day. The Kauai sun can be pretty strong, especially with all our fur, so it was nice to come home to air-conditioning, which can be a rare commodity in Hawaii. At the end of the day, we cooled down on the comfortable Adirondack chairs outside the cottage which were positioned perfectly to capture the evening shade.
The comforts of this cottage were equally matched by its convenience. The cubs certainly appreciated the proximity to the airport after traveling for so many hours. The Wailua River and Lydgate Park were within walking distance, and there were a variety of restaurants to choose from, even for our pickiest bears. We were also able to explore other parts of the island, like Princeville and Hanalei, in just a short drive. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Fern Grotto Inn, whether we were exploring the local attractions or taking advantage of the comforts of the cottage.
