Ile Saint Louis - 17th Century Luxury 1 BR - Elevator
- Minimum stay:N/A

- Wheel chair accessible:No
Located in the heart of the Ile-Saint-Louis, the front entrance to this early 17th-century building leads into a small and quiet courtyard. You can choose between taking the elegant wood staircase or the elevator to access this second floor (third floor US) apartment. Upon entering, your first impression will be one of light and warmth. The luminosity is due to the very high ceilings and tall windows. The pale yellow color of the walls in the main living areas makes it cheerful and warm all year round.
The separate living and dining room is located on the front of the building, from where floor-to-ceiling windows offer you views of the shops below. It is a perfect spot for discreet people watching. Inside the living room, one is reminded of the age and dignity of the building thanks to the high ceiling, the exposed wooden beams, the stone wall, and hardwood floors. The antique furnishings highlight the sensation of "old world charm," but a combination of small-scale contemporary artwork and traditional French "tableaux" speak strongly of the style and creativity of the French today.
The living and dining areas are cleverly defined by the placement of the furniture. All has been designed to create a very cozy atmosphere. The dining area consists of a black-washed wooden table (seats four) and an impressive Spanish renaissance style buffet. The kitchen is immediately accessible just a few steps away. Towards the front of the apartment, a 19th-century black marble fireplace and mirror are the focal point of the living area. The sofa and armchairs are placed in a manner for sharing conversation and drinks, for enjoying a quiet read in the sunshine, or to watch your favorite international news or movies on the flat panel TV. A small antique writing table visually separates the two areas while providing you with a place to consult your emails and write post cards via an Ethernet or WiFi connection. The salon is lit by a series of contemporary style spot lights that are controlled by dimmer.
The kitchen has been carefully designed to add to the beauty of the apartment as well. The built-in appliances (washer/dryer and refrigerator) have been hidden behind the facades of the hand painted, antiqued cabinetry. The ceramic stove top and the microwave/convection oven are black to blend with the absolute black granite of the counters and backsplash. The brushed nickel faucet and black under mounted sink are lit by small spot lights that are controlled by a dimmer switch. Coffee maker, toaster, glassware, cutlery, utensils, dishes, and crockery are provided.
The petite bedroom located in the back of the apartment is very bright thanks to two tall windows. The grey-green color of the walls is visually cool and conducive to relaxation. The windows are dressed in pale yellow floor-to-ceiling curtains that diffuse a soft golden light. Should you wish to "sleep in" one morning, you can lower the electric blinds and create total darkness for as long as you like. A very high quality queen-sized bed and night stands are there for your comfort. A large closet with inset mirrors on the doors provides ample space for stowing luggage and arranging your personal affairs. Located in the back of the apartment, you will find that this bedroom is a haven of peace and quiet.
In the bathroom you will find a large shower stall, wash basin, medicine cabinet, and toilet. This bathroom has been created to complete your experience of comfort and luxury. The floor and large shower stall are tiled in beige tumbled marble. An antique ceramic frieze adds a further touch of color and interest to the room. The towel rack will heat the bathroom and warm your towels at the same time. Here too the lights are controlled by dimmer switch.
This comfortable, well-appointed, one-bedroom, luxury apartment is characteristic of life on Ile-Saint-Louis. It offers charm, light, warmth, and quietude. Your senses will be delighted to be on vacation here.

The apartment was above our expectation and we will be recommending to our friends. Our dinner at La Rotisserie Beaujolais was most enjoyable, and we also managed to have lunch at Le Train Bleu. We would recommend to any of your visitors as a dining experience. The Sainte Chapelle concert is also a "must do" experience. One additional comment, the car service to the airport was very convenient. Please convey our appreciation. Best wishes for the new year celebrations. The location is superb, the bed was cozy and comfortable, the living room/kitchen was perfect, the decor is lovely, the bathroom was very nice, the lighting/mirors was good for reading and dressing and make-up, and the storage space was ample. Thank you for everything. Your services were excellent. The apartment was beautiful and the apartment and location made our stay truly memorable. We loved staying on the Isle and having the feel of a sophisticated small village with metropolitan Paris only minutes away. Thank you also for recommending Vincent's limo services. They were thoroughly professional and made transportation to and from the airport stress free. We look forward to our next visit to Paris and again staying with you.Did you find this review helpful? We did, indeed, get to see Paris in a different way, and we loved apartment Saffron. We spent delightful "downtime" there enjoying the very cozy, warm ambience, including the extensive book and music collection! We would not hesitate to recommend your properties to our friends. And I don't think we've ever slept so well! Vincent's drivers, Martin and Jean Michel, were also well worth the convenience. Sincerely, Aveline & Eric von EhrenbergDid you find this review helpful? We are answering your mail with some delay because the life outside Saffron is more much more hectic. We had really good experience there. Every think was incredibly wonderful, the place, the flat, the smell of soap coming from the shop bellow. You are doing an exceptional job. We hope to come back again. Best regards Milko & Dolores PS The only issue was that my wife doesn't want to leave.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We haven't forgotten our wonderful stay in Saffron and the excellent care you gave us while we were in Paris. We have shared our experience with several friends who are interested in a future trip to Paris and highly recommended that they use Guest Apartment Services for their stay. We felt staying in an apartment was far superior to a hotel stay. When we return to Paris we will most certainly use your excellent service. Thank you and all the best to you. Warm regards, Patricia McBratney.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Dear Philippe, Christophe and Thomas, I'm back to reality in New York on this early Sunday morning and wanted to let you know how very much I enjoyed my month at 60, rue St. Louis en L'Ile. I had planned to call you on Friday morning before I departed for the airport but my driver appeared earlier than anticipated and, so, I was not able to offer an in-person thank you. From my arrival on October 1 till my departure on October 31, I relished every day in beautiful Paris...well, some of the sunnier days were a bit more enjoyable than the rainy ones but even the wet ones didn't detract from the pleasure of being in a place with endless opportunity for exploration. While I always try to visit significant sights while I'm there - and to revisit favorite ones - some of the most memorable days are spent just wandering the neighborhoods, soaking up the local color. And...the food... how can I describe the pleasure derived from sampling as many boulangeries as possible? There were days I was happy to just eat bread, cheese and, o.k., drink wine! This trip I had the pleasure of participating in three cooking classes: two at the home of a French woman in the 5th and another at the Ritz Escoffier School. Now I will put on my toque and astound my friends with new-found skills in the kitchen! I want you to know that your service throughout the month was unparalleled. It was friendly and it was professional and, even when Jean Claude had to come for door lock solutions at "Saffron" twice and TV reboot, you were there immediately. I always knew that answers were at my fingertips with a call to your office. "Saffron" was a perfect petite pied a terre for my visit;my husband agreed during his part-time visit too. I was able to master the use of the washer/dryer and induction stove top so all my needs were met. And I loved the idea of being on the main street where I could open the large windows and feel a part of the local scene beneath me. A record number of Parisians and tourists must consume ice cream on a daily basis if I can judge from my observations of rue St. Louis en L'Ile! So...friends...I offer an enthusiastic "mille fois merci" to all of you for helping me create wonderful memories during my month on Ile St. Louis! I would welcome a phone call when you visit New York. Sincerely, Melinda BaldwinDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/1

The location is in the heart of Paris with easy walking distance to nearby sights and the Metropolitan. Despite the central location, the area is calm and quiet compared to most of touristy Paris, and even at its busiest (in afternoons and early evenings) is easy to navigate. It is quiet at night and very safe. Nearby Amenities There were a number of nearby restaurants and shops, and at least two grocers within a two minute walking distance. Some wonderful pastry shops, including the exceptional Calixte, were seconds away. The House/Apartment The building is a well renovated 17th century structure (as are most buildings on the island) that was well maintained and had a total of four apartments. The apartment was very quiet, with excellent double pane windows that blocked what little street noise there was. The apartment flow was pleasant, with entry at the center facing a small but adequate kitchen, and with a comfortable living/dining room to one side and the bedroom and bath to the other. The apartment was in excellent condition, clean and obviously well taken care of, with some very nice decorative touches to make it feel rather special. You can view the property directly: Saffron. Garden There was not an outside sitting area. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas Furnishings were first rate and comfortable, and there was more than adequate seating. Linens and towels were replaced at mid week without request. Bedrooms/Bathrooms The bed was in excellent condition, supportive but comfortable. The bedroom was a good size and nicely decorated. The bathroom was spotless and more than adequate, with lots and lots of towels, soaps, TP, etc. Kitchen The kitchen is small, but works quite well. There is a two burner convection stove top, a microwave, a good sized refrigerator, plenty of pots and dishes, etc. and a washer/dryer that works well. We cooked some rather enjoyable full meals with ease. Problems or Bonuses The bouquet of flowers, the bag of goodies, and the detailed guide to the apartment and its features, the building, the area, and Paris in general was superb. Agency and Representatives (and price) If we designed the agency ourselves, it could not have been better. From Internet contact to personal contact, it all went so very well. Philippe and Christof were kind and friendly individuals, ready to assist us at a moments notice. They spoke English quite well (much better than our French), and talking with them was rather enjoyable. The flat was exactlyDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

Year Purchased: 2000
About the owner: Grew up outside New York City. BBA-Emory University, MBA-University of Georgia. Now living in Atlanta, Georgia. Always looking forward to going back home to Paris.
Why the Owner Chose Paris Arrondissement 4:
Ile Saint Louis feels like a private retreat, protected by the Seine, in the center of Paris. Within a few minutes walking distance to every major metro line, it could not be easier to visit the sites and neighborhoods, or access airports and major train stations. When I lived and worked full time in Paris, it was so convenient to have everything I needed and to be able to meander into Le Marais or St. Germain on a whim to meet friends or just pass the time. Now living most of the year in Atlanta, Georgia, I am very lucky to be able to visit my home in Paris often.
The Unique Benefits at this Apartment:
Friends always comment that my apartment feels like a “petit Versailles”, and when they learn of the actual square footage/meters, are truly complimentary of the great layout and feeling of generous space. The high ceiling with exposed original beams, as well as the exposed stone wall, make the living area feel exactly as you would hope in a classic 17th century building. Yet, the latest kitchen and bathroom design honor today’s required living conveniences. Having the bedroom on the back courtyard side with blackout blinds make sleeping a truly peaceful experience. Standing at the front living room double-paned windows, three floors above a mostly pedestrian street with charming shops, is a delightful way to watch the world go by. And if you decide to leave the apartment, you can walk down a wide, comfortable staircase with original wood carved banisters, or take the elevator, which is a rare find in a 17th century apartment building.
