Location: Saignon, Luberon Area, Provence, France, Europe (Marseille International Airport 65 mins; Nice 120 mins;)
Accommodations: House, 2 Bedrooms + No additional sleeping rooms avail, 2 Baths (Sleeps 4-5)
Keywords: Village House
The Auberge is at the tranquil centre of an ancient hill top village which overlooks the wine growing Luberon valley. The house is bright and airy and is on three levels. The master bedroom and guest bedroom are on the top level with the master bedroom having an ensuite bathroom and the guest room an ensuite shower room. Both bedrooms have fans. On the next floor is a large and comfortable living room and down a few steps is the kitchen and dining area. The kitchen opens out on to a super terrace from which you can enjoy spectacular sunsets. The village has a great deal of character and history (chateaux ruins and churches, interesting architecture). There is an excellent bakery and a variety of small shops, most of which offer delicious snacks and there are also three delightful restaurants. Saignon is a five minute drive from the well-known town of Apt - good supermarkets, excellent wine shop, great Saturday morning market and a very fine municipal swimming pool.
The area is perfect for outdoor activities yet at the same time offers the comforts of a number of excellent restaurants and good proximity to the international airport in Marseille (65 minutes), the two hours 20 minutes TGV connection to Paris from Avignon (45 minutes drive) and the cultural centres of Aix (somewhat less than an hour's drive), Arles, Nimes, etc.

Fabulous place to stay! We highly recommend it! Perfect for two couples, ideally situated for exploring the Luberon area. Lovely quiet little town, nice restaurants and great cafe. The Terrasse with BBQ was a bonus, and from one corner we saw beautiful sunsets.

One week in May at Auberge Rocher was just too short! The home is beautifully decorated and spotless, the kitchen is more than adequate for fixing meals and for having guests to enjoy great food with you, the bathrooms are modern, the beds are very comfortable, and the stone terrace (with visiting cats) is the perfect place to enjoy a leisurely morning in Luberon. We never had problems finding parking nearby. We felt very welcome in the town and loved driving to other hill towns in Luberon. The photos on the website honestly do not do justice to the picturesque views from every window. Be sure to enjoy a meal or a drink in the courtyard by the fountain in Saignon. Also, the patisserie, Chez Christine has the best cafe au lait ever!!

A delightful place I often think about! We first stayed at L'Auberge Rocher with friends in 2007 . We found everything to be as good or better than the description and photos indicated. The house was clean and comfortable with lots of space. The two bedrooms with their own bathrooms made it perfect for two couples. The village of Saignon is lovely and quiet and unspoilt. There are four or five small restaurants and we had fresh bread and croissants every morning from the local boulangerie. Parking is a little complicated but we always found a place. In 2009, my husband and I returned for another wonderful relaxing week. Most mornings we enjoyed our coffee on the pretty stone terrrace ... very private with a view of the valley through the trees, and then leisurely took, ourselves off exploring the countryside, the villages or the markets. We sometimes brought fresh food home to cook for ourselves or had dinner at one of the restaurants nearby. Saignon is well situated as a base from which to visit the many small towns and villages of the Luberon as well as within a reasonable drive of most of the larger towns and tourist sites of Provence. Would I recommend it? Most definitely! Would I return? In a heartbeat! Thanks to Maura for answering our questions , in arranging the key pickup and making the house hospitable for our arrival.

We just got back from staying at the Auberge Rocher and couldnt have been happier with the place, location and the town of Saignon. The local folks were amazing and we had alot of fun with them. The auberge is a perfect spot to see the Luberon from and is pleasantly cool on hot days. We highly recommend the location and the auberge (be sure to go to patissiere and say hi to Christine for us!!) Cheers Richard Purcell/Michele Duval and company

We have now stayed at the auberge twice, once during the christmas holiday season, more recently at the end of May. Both seasons were delightful. In December, the auberge was a cozy romantic perch with a beautiful view of the lights of Apt down below. In May, with the breezes and genet scents, a lovely place as well. Perfectly located close to, but not in, the busy town of Apt, so very convenient as a jumping off point to explore the Luberon. We couldn't be happier having discovered the auberge, and many thanks to Maura for helping with our arrangements. We'll be back. Shelley and George

We have just returned from a marvellous two weeks at L'Ancienne Auberge in the charming village of Saignon. This is a lovely, well appointed, and beautifully decorated house. One,that right away, made us feel truly "at home". The only drawback was that our time there was too short, and so we are looking forward to returning next year, hopefully this time for a month. We must mention that Maura Lane is a most attentive and caring host and it was a real pleasure to be her guests. Cheers and All the best!

My partner & I together with "The Mother-in-law" spent two fantastic weeks in Saignon. The Auberge was everything and more than we could have wished for. The location is great, centrally located, quiet with spectacular views. The local village people were so welcoming and very helpful. There is just so much on your doorstep. Our suggestion is, not to see everything, but to enjoy what you do see. Sit back, relax with a wine and just take it all in. Regards, Peter & Stephen in Perth, Western Australia

My wife and I, along with her parents, stayed at the Auberge for a week during our two and a half weeks in France in March '02. Maura, and her charming Hugh Grant-like son, have done a beautiful job with the property, especially the little details that make a stay so enjoyable. I would highly recommend anyone considering a stay in the area make this spot a top consideration. The website photos do little justice to the spectacular setting perched on a cliff overlooking Apt and the valley below. Don't worry about the tight corners on your drive up and back in Saignon, its well worth it. We will visit again. Chris.

We had a wonderful holiday in Saignon. The auberge is exquisitely but simply furnished and very comfortable. We would love to return some time.
