Location: Kaweah Cottage is located at the end of a rustic road along the South Fork of the Kaweah River, a short distance from Three Rivers, California. Less than 4 hours from LA and 4.5 hours from San Francisco, we are near a remote corner of Sequoia National Park in the western foothills of the Central Sierra Nevada Mountain Range. The Cottage is perched on a tranquil hillside offering views of adjacent horse pastures, Blue Ridge and pristine Grouse Creek. Located amidst blue oak woodlands, the Cottage is at 1925 feet elevation and has year-round access.
Recreation: What you need for a relaxing vacation and communion with Nature is here at the Kaweah Cottage. Situated on the Shangri-La Homestead, a private 62 acre Nature Preserve, we’re surrounded by thousands of acres of oak woodlands, open rangelands, and bordered by the South Fork of the Kaweah River. There are secluded swimming holes, hiking trails and splendid vistas to enjoy while you re-balance your soul and rejuvenate your energy. Park your car and stay here in Shangri-La at The Kaweah Cottage until you’re ready to return to the City.
It is a great destination for an artist’s retreat, sabbatical, a romantic getaway, or family adventure. A three minute hike and you arrive at one of the more spectacular rock formations and swimming holes in the western Sierra foothills. Depending on the winter snow pack, there are four to ten weeks of river swimming and year-round hiking and exploring. You can sleep out on the view deck, gaze up at the firmament, drift off to the sounds of the flowing streams, and breathe in the cool, sweet, down canyon breezes from the Sierra high country.
Seasonal Notes: Come in the SPRINGTIME during the Snow Melt that roars down through the canyons of the South Fork of the Kaweah and the more remote Grouse Creek. Hike through primeval riparian habitats and serene oak woodlands. Discover rare wildflowers and abundant fauna. SUMMERTIME: On hot days, take a refreshing dip in the brisk Sierra runoff and then feel the warm embrace of the Big Smooth Rock. Wonder at the night sky and observe meteor showers. AUTUMN: hiking, rock hopping, sunsets, skywatching, leaves. YEAR-ROUND: exploring, birdwatching, sunrises, photography, painting, writing, playing, resting. Link to Calendar.
