Location: Change, Burgundy, France, Europe (Nolay 2km)
Accommodations: House, 2 Bedrooms + No additional sleeping rooms avail, 1 Bath (Sleeps 4)
Keywords: House built at the turn of the century, nicely restored, original furniture, outdoor pool, sauna, gym, mountain bikes, ideal for overseas travellers and families.
In the pretty village of Change, situated just a few minutes from Nolay in the Valley de la Cozanne, and on the ‘Route des Vignobles de Beaune à Cluny’, you will find this very comfortable 2 bedroom former winemaker’s house.
Built at the turn of the 19th Century it was one of the traditional houses of winemaker 'Domaine Georges Guérin', a long standing winemaker in Change.
The lower level served as a ‘Cave’ holding large barrels of wine, and the first floor was used as the living area with access to the rear garden and its unique ‘pigeonnier’.
100 years later, Gérard Martini, the new owner, fell in love with the house and gave it a new name, ‘Le Pigeonnier’. He has completely restored the property, conserving much of the original charm and antique furniture but at the same time has created a well equipped home with a delightful bathroom and cleverly designed kitchen.
You will enjoy original ‘Art Noveau’ elements such as floral and geometric floor tiles, the rosace, stained glass and Henry II furniture.
Furthermore, you can taste some very good wines - Hautes Côtes de Beaune, Maranges 1er Cru and more - at the Domaine MONNOT-ROCHE across the road. The Monnots look after you while you are there.
LE PIGEONNIER
This former winemaker’s house, of the local Domaine Georges Guérin, was built at the end of the 19th Century.
It retains several ‘Art Nouveau’ elements and having been recently and lovingly renovated with much style and taste, it is now a fully equipped 2 bedroom holiday home.
With many of the original features, charm, character and furniture you will find a large open plan main room, with stylish kitchen where you can prepare your traditional gourmet dinners using local produce found at the markets in the region.
There is an original open fireplace with a black marble surround and comfortable chairs to while away lazy mornings or evenings. A dining area with table, 6 chairs and a little balcony where you can sit and enjoy your café and croissants in the morning or the sun set in the evening, overlooking the village vineyards. A TV and music corner with DVD, CD and tape players, and 100’s of TV and radio channels to choose from (there are 3 satellite receivers), with further armchairs, and WiFi internet access completes the main room.
The master bedroom with kingsize bed, antique furniture, and wooden floorboards also has views over the village, and pretty courtyard.
The cozy second bedroom is furnished with twin beds, antique furniture and wooden floorboards.
There’s a comfortable bathroom with bath, shower over, large sink, storage and WC.
The property benefits from an oil fired central heating system and radiators.
OUTSIDE -
You arrive at the walled courtyard and double gates. There is ample parking for 2 cars here in the courtyard. An original well has been turned into a pretty fountain feature.
Wide steps lead to the upper garden and outdoor dining area. A wooden table and 6 chairs under metal framed gazebo with BBQ provide the perfect ambiance for al-fresco dining. A wood store can be found by the back door - wood supplied for those cooler summer evenings
The garden is fully enclosed and has many flower and shrub borders.
At the rear of the property you will see the Pigeonnier which has just been nicely restored. Next to it there is a sun terrace with swimming pool and shower, a sauna room with a small gym (fitness bike) available for guests use.
CHANGE -
Just 2 kilometers from Nolay (Côte d'Or)in the Valley de la Cozanne, and situated on the Route des Vignobles de Beaune à Cluny, Change is a charming little village, home to 8 winemakers!
In the heart of Hautes Côtes de Beaune, 20km south west of Beaune (Wine capital of Burgundy), 28km North west of Chalon (large town on the River Saone) and 25 km east of Autun (roman town and gateway to the Morvan Natural parc), Change is perfectly situated for exploring the best that Burgundy has to offer.
The recently opened new 'Voie Verte' (green way)a few meters above the property connects Change with Santenay and the Canal du Centre where you can walk, cycle and horse ride along the bridle paths.
Hikers can start in Change, either from the ‘Circuit de Trois Monts’ or the famous GR7. From the top of Mont des Trois Croix you will find a fantastic panoramic view. The 7(!) mountain bikes (also for kids at different ages) at the house will help you to experience the surrounding natural beauty that Change has to offer.
For those who like a little bit of ‘Las Vegas’, no problem. Santenay with its castles and famous casino is just 5 km away.
Last but not least Change has a little Bistro where you can find local food and try to understand the Burgundy dialect.
Nolay has all the necessary facilities for your stay: several nice restaurants; supermarkets; butchers; bakeries; banks; medical services; tennis courts and a natural swimming lake.

My husband and I just returned from a month in Europe, which included a week in this fabulous house in Change. It was everything we hoped for and more. It is so much better than the description. The little village of Change is lovely, just the right size. We cycled almost every day on the "vois verte" and along the canal from Santenay. The scenery is absolutely beautiful! There are many, many, castles and sights to see and Gerhard gave us so much information before we left which was really helpful. Nolay is only 2km away which has everything you could possibly need in the way of provisions, restaurants and shops. The owners of the little bistro in Change are lovely - La Cozanne - which is just down the street form the house. Manu and Brigitte made us very welcome!! Christophe and Frederique were just as lovely, and Christophe gave us a fantastic tour of his winery and "cave". It was a week of pure bliss. We won't forget the wonderful countryside of Burgundy, nor the wonderful people!

I wanted to visit the tiny village of Change as an 'homage' to my mother who owned a small cottage up the road from La Pigeonnier. On our first evening, we walked up the hill, talking about my mother who passed away in 2002, and as we approached the house, a shooting star shot out over the roof of her former house! The first shooting star I have ever seen ... call it a coincidence if you wish. But rest assured this part of Burgundy is very spiritual - visit the Three Crosses and just soak up the beauty of the 'inscape'. The house was great, very homely, with everything you would ever need - only suggestion might be to add some lazy loungers for the pool area. Pool was very clean and sparkly and a lovely cool temperature that enabled you to really cool off. Plenty of cooking utensils to prepare complex meals which was good because we did find, probably because the poor exchange rate of the pound sterling, that eating out was costly and not very good value. Very, very beautiful landscape, it's got to be the best in France, with a vineyard panorama rising up steeply inh front of you. Hoping to return. Apart from everything else I've said, it did really make a big difference to have the pool.

We have just returned from a 10 day stay in le Pigeonnier and would thoroughly recommend it. The house is set in a small village not far from Beaune and close to many other interesting and historic towns, castles and, of course, some of the most fabulous wine growing areas in France. From the attractive small garden you can gaze across the village to vines growing up the hills. The cottage itself is amazingly well equipped for a rental property; there is everything from a salad spinner to mountain bikes and a sauna and small pool. Everything is meticulously maintained and very clean. If there are any problems the neighbouring family is more than happy to help out. We enjoyed making excursions into the surrounding towns on market days and stocking up on wonderful fresh produce which we cooked in the evening. The Voie Verte runs by the top of the village, so if you enjoy cycling, this is a great way of seeing the surrounding countryside. The cottage is not large, ideal for a small family or two couples who are happy to share a bathroom.

My sister, our friend and I recently stayed for a week in this lovely house in Change. We had been staying in great homes and gites throughout France, but this property was our favorite!! The description of the house and amenities is accurate, and the reality of the property is better than the photos! It is evident that the owner takes great pride in this wonderful house and grounds. Every evening, we sat on the lovely terrace, drinking excellent Burgundian wine and watching the sun set over the vineyards. <Sigh.> Things to do? Ride bikes, go for walks through vineyards, tour the countryside, eat in excellent restaurants in nearby villages, cool off in the on-site pool...and that was just the first day! The owner was so helpful, not only over the phone and by e-mail, but when we arrived, he had amassed tons of information about the area, things to do, recommendations for restaurants, and other materials. We have already recommended this home to friends and relatives, and we are making plans to return as soon and as often as possible. Truly a wonderful week!

Property with lots of character, very comfortable with good kitchen, garden & terrace. Lovely little pool and sauna, wifi and nice village location, in the heart of vineyards. Good for outdoor activities too - bikes provided, walking trails nearby, and very close to some fabulous wine growing areas. There is lots of information at the property on activites in the surrounding areas - maps, restaurants, tourist trails, vineyards etc.

My wife and I spent a week at this lovely home in mid-2010. We found it to be comfortable and a good value for the price. A modern kitchen and comfortable master bedroom (we did not use the second room) along with a newly installed sauna provided the perfect place to recharge our energy after being out exploring the Burgundy region and all its' charms. Besides the sauna, the amenity we enjoyed most was using the bikes provided, hoping on the paved (and flat) bike path behind the house that stretches from Nolay to Changey and beyond. Experiencing the countryside on bike was incredible and safe when you are knocking on all these wonderful winemakers cellar doors. Le Pigeonnier felt like a second home to us. It does have plenty of space in the yard to stretch out. It doesn't have a modern tv or state of the art entertainment system - but satellite cable, wifi and a modest stereo with a great assortment of CDs was enough for us. We hope to return some year at harvest time!
