Can Llouquette (pronounced "can yoket") is situated in the Mediterranean Pyrenees. The name is Catalan for "brooding hen." It can be rented for four, six, or up to fourteen people, as there are three units - see below under accommodation.

Can Llouquette is an old fruit farm in an idyllic location, half way up Mount Canigou (2784 metres) and situated just one and a half miles from the nearest village - Montferrer. It is a haven of peace and tranquility.

Set in 11 acres of forest and gardens running down to a stream, it's also a luxury eco-property with its own water source, septic tanks, heating and electricity supplied by hydro generation.

The accommodation has been renovated sympathetically and to a high standard during the last few years and is fully equipped.

Despite its secluded position, Can Llouquette is only two minutes from the nearest village, ten minutes from the nearest supermarket and farmers' market, and only 50 minutes from the coast, Perpignan, golf and skiing.

It is also well served by no less than six airports - Perpigan, Carcassone, Toulouse, Montpellier, Girona and Barcelona.

It is a haven for those looking for peace but has culture, cuisine, wine, mountaineering, water sports and sightseeing all on its doorstep.

ACCOMMODATION

The MAIN HOUSE is approximately 180 square metres and has two double bedrooms (one double, one twin). There are two bathrooms. The main house also has two living rooms, a large traditional fireplace and large kitchen/dining room along with a beautiful terrace over-looking the swimming pool.

The STUDIO apartment is approximately 20 square metres and has also been freshly renovated with two beds, a private bath and WC and a kitchenette. It is adjoined to the main house by a connecting staircase to the main kitchen.

The GÎTE is approximately 60 square metres and has two bedrooms (one double, one twin) each with private bath and WC, a living/dining room and a terrace with spectacular views down to the stream.

There is a swimming pool of 9.5 by 4.5 metres. There is also a utility room (situated under the main terrace) complete with washing machine and iron.

The property covers a little more than three hectares (approximately 11 acres). There is ample space outside the house for playing. There is also a stream on the property, Rivière de la Fou, fed by the melting water from the highest mountain in the area, Pic du Canigou (2784 m).

This property is ideal for large families and groups wanting to holiday together.

  • Off Street Parking: The accomodation is on 11 acres of its own and there is ample parking.
  • Wood Fireplace: There is one old traditional catalan fireplace.
  • Wood Stove: A wood-burning stove can be used for heating in winter (heats the radiators) but also electrical heating.

  • King Bed: There are two double bedrooms in the property (one in the Main House, one in the Gite). There is also a mezzanine area in one room of the Main House with a double mattress for kids.
  • Twin/Single Bed: All 7 other beds are singles (although in the Studio these can be joined). There are two additional single beds if required.

  • Private Pool: The pool is approximately 4.5m x 9.5m. Any booking receives exclusive use of the pool (i.e. we only take one booking at a time - even if the entire property is not used).

  • Mountain View: Can Llouquette is situated in its own private valley, with stream, mountain views and 11 acres of fields and forest. There are no other houses in sight or earshot. Mount Canigou is situated behind the house (6 hrs climb) and there are no roads between the house and the mountain. You are literally located on Mount Canigou.

  • A holiday in France is for many people synonymous with good food and wine. We think that this area of the Languedoc-Roussillon offers this, and much more. The region produces about one third of the wine in France. There are 13 wines classified with AOC (Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée) in the region. The cuisine of the region is Catalan: simple good food in abundance at a reasonable price. A meal on farms (fermes-auberges) serving food mainly made from their own produce is well worthwhile trying. You'll also find a good selection of restaurants in the area as well as delicatessens and farmers' markets. If you feel the need to paint the town red, then there are numerous and exciting cities within easy reach: Perpignan, Girona, Montpellier and Barcelona. For walkers and climbers the region has some truly unique and exceptional landscapes with constant views of green valleys, snow-capped mountains, river gorges and sea.
