If you would like to see a short video of the town of Belfast, go to youtube and search Belfast, Maine. The video named Belfast, Maine has lovely images of the town.

Words cannot adequately describe the feeling you will have when you reach this destination. Please scroll down to the end of this web page for the link for more pictures. If privacy and natural beauty are what you are looking for, look no further. Spend the day on the deck, relax in the hammock overlooking the ocean, or explore the beach while watching the ships sail by. Watch the lobster boats making their rounds, and the seagulls and loons circling overhead. Hike Mt. Battie in nearby Camden for amazing views, experience the quaint shops, antique and art galleries and unique restaurants in Searsport, Belfast and Camden or explore the Farnsworth Museum in Rockland (visit nearby Owls Head Transportation Museum and stop in for fried clams at the Dip Net in Port Clyde). Take a day trip to Acadia National Park where you can hike Cadillac Mountain, take a carriage ride, eat popovers at the Jordan Pond House, or hike along the coast at Sand Beach for dramatic cliffside views. Hop on a boat in Belfast Harbor and head over to Castine to explore an old Maine harbor town. Take your car on the ferry to Isleboro and have a picnic on a beautiful summer island. Visit the new Penobscot Bay Bridge in Bucksport, only three like it in the United States (go up to the observatory if you're truly brave). In the evening, feast on lobster at home or at nearby Young's Lobster Pound, take a stroll through the galleries of Belfast on the Friday night tour, have a romantic dinner at one of the many beautiful Inns in the area or just curl up by the fire, or chill out on the deck under a canopy of stars.

Wild Rose is a unique, oceanfront cottage, located on a private acre, fashioned after the home of famous Swedish artist Carl Larsson. "Here I experienced that unspeakably sweet feeling of seclusion from the clamor and noise of the world." That is how the artist Carl Larsson described his home in Sweden and what inspired the builders of Wild Rose. The location is first-rate; Wild Rose is in the heart of the beautiful mid-coast of Maine.

A winding lane leads to the house, which sits on one acre overlooking a luxurious green lawn and 140 feet of pristine beachfront. The front door opens into an entry hall with a view, as the windows opposite the door overlook a small patio, the lawn, and the ocean beyond. When you walk in, your senses will be delighted at every turn. The first thing to meet your eyes upon entering is the view of the Penobscot Bay, from the wall of windows in every room of the cottage. To the left is the living room that has a cozy feel, with a beautiful gas fireplace, comfortable couches and a flat screen TV. Off of the living room is the master bedroom, with an amazing canopied bed that will leave you feeling like a king or queen in his or her castle. There is a private bath in the master suite.

Wild Rose has an adorable kitchen with a built-in banquette, perfect for meals or playing games, which are included in the cottage. Off of the kitchen is a guest bedroom with two twin beds and a private bath. The house also contains a large loft bedroom with a queen size bed and the best views in the cottage. Great outdoor spaces, including a breezeway, deck and large grassy area, lead to the ocean. The cottage has steps to the beach for walks and hunts for treasures of the sea. An added bonus is the Moose Point State Park located directly next to the cottage. Access is available from the beach; there is a beautiful trail running alongside the ocean and through the woods that is great for morning exercise.

Because the house is down a lane, and because it is laid out so the bedroom suites are at opposite ends of the house, it has that "unspeakable sweet feeling of seclusion" Larsson so valued. And because the many windows on both wings of the house look down the grassy slope to the water, those inside can savor the ocean at every turn. The views are southerly to Castine and Isleboro.

Off the back, a deck spans both wings of the house, and the patio sheltered between them is warm and protected even in winter. Inside, in the peak of the house over the patio, is a delightful sleeping loft with a rail, gate, and hand-crafted ship's ladder.

Wild Rose is a rare find - a glorious year round house on the coast of Maine. It is located 5 minutes from the town of Searsport, wherein you will find a quaint little town center, a maritime musuem, restaurants, a family owned food market and great antique shops. Ten minutes south is the town of Belfast, a sizable town with an historical downtown center filled with lovely shops, very good restaurants, numerous art galleries, an old-fashioned movie theater and playhouse, coffee houses, and even a great martini/wine bar overlooking the harbor. Within Belfast you can experience Thursday night dancing in the streets, the Friday morning Farmer's Market and Gallery Night every Friday night. Heading south a few more minutes you will reach Linconville Beach, then Camden. Acadia National Park is a one hour drive to the north. Bangor Airport is about 45 minutes from the cottage.

If you are looking for a place that offers serenity, privacy, charm and a great location, then Wild Rose Cottage is the place for you. New delicious restaurants include Delvinos and The Lost Kitchen

Owner's Profile

Owner Description

Year Purchased: 2005

I live in Miami with my husband and two teenage sons. I love escaping the summer heat for the cool Maine days. We love to travel and explore new areas and use the cottage in June at this time.

Why the Owner Chose Searsport

My family and I visited the Mid-Coast of Maine and fell in love with the area. We were impressed by the natural beauty and
variety of activities available. On any given
day you can hike, bike, visit antique shops,
go boating, eat at delicious restaurants, visit museums or shop in quaint stores in the
many surrounding towns. Not to miss: a full day at Acadia National Park, only an hour drive at most.

The Unique Benefits of this Cottage

At Wild Rose you will feel secluded from the world, yet be within five or ten minutes of a thriving town with many good restaurants and shops. Our location is directly next to a wonderful state park, Moose Point. This is a great bonus as you can reach the park by beach in five minutes and have access to a wonderful, flat trail for daily exercise.

Great spot

Just wanted to say thanks now that we're home. We had a wonderful time and the place was great. Unlike a lot of rentals, you could tell that the place was "loved," and there were a lot of simple, nice touches that made us feel welcome. We never stayed in that part of Maine before and the proximity to many different places was appealing. We had lunch in Booth Bay, spent time in Camden (the town and the hills...), and travelled to Acadia twice because it has a special appeal for us. Great spot and thanks again

Wondeful Getaway!

A wonderful cottage, comfortable and cozy! The home is fully stocked, with everything we needed and more. We spent many hours on the deck and in the back yard simply enjoying the views and breezes off Penobscot Bay. The cottage's private beach was a favorite spot, where we searched and found lots of wonderful sea glass. The menu drawer had some bonus written-in reviews that helped guide our meal choices when we ate out. Other meals we prepared in the wonderful kitchen. Our boys loved eating at the banquette! The loft gave our older teen son a place to call his, and the views from there were spectacular. Searport holds a special place in my heart, as it is where many of my summers were spent growing up. It was an opportunity to connect to the past, and give our children some of the experiences I had in Searsport. I couldn't think of a sweeter place to stay. Thank you for a lovely week and for sharing your home. We hope to be back!

We're here and it's magnificent. When we got to Portland, we drove up the coast and I oohed and aahed at every town we went through. I'm sitting on your new couch (it's beautiful) and have the windows open. There is a beautiful breeze and I can hear the ocean. It's heaven.

Just wanted to say thanks, the place was nice and relaxing. Went down a few times and picked up some sea glass, and just sat. Weather was grand all week. A little misty on friday but the rest of the days were great. Headed up to A.N.P. on Wednesday. Lovely place, lots of pictures. I played golf a few times while Mary stayed home and sketched on the deck. She did a few nice ones of the outside of the cottage, did some water colors as well. We wanted something to remember the place by. The watercolor will do just that. Nice size hanging on our wall. All the food tips you gave worked out well, we didn't however get to chase's, we did go to youngs a couple times. If anyone asks about where to golf, send them to northport country club, its much better then searsport. They also have to go to samoset. That experience was outstanding.

Great View/Great Cottage

Guest: Jeff (Albany, NY)
Date of Stay: 07/10/10 Review Submitted: 07/25/10

We spent two weeks at Wild Rose and enjoyed ourselves tremendously. Having morning coffee/breakfast/dinner on the back deck overlooking the ocean is a treat for the soul. The previous year we spent at a very secluded location on the coast near the Canadian border and we found being close to civilization (Belfast and Searsport) much more enjoyable. Being able to choose to go out to dinner at a number of good restaurants within 15 minutes or shop at the supermarket or Belfast Coop (highly recommended) for a great meal grilled on the back deck was great. You can spend a couple of days just visiting Belfast and the Mariner's Museum in Searsport. Being close to Camden State Park and an 80 minute journey to Acadia means there is plenty to do if you don't want to just loaf on the grounds (and the hammock). The cottage is in very good shape and has all the amenities you could hope for. For part of the time another couple joined us but having bedrooms at opposite ends of the cottage meant both couples could enjoy their privacy. If we can work our our vacation schedules for next year, we'll be back.

AMAZING

We truly enjoyed our trip to Maine and this beautiful little cottage. The sound of the waves crashing and loons calling at night offered the peace and serenity we were hoping to find. We were even fortunate enough to see seals and dolphins right in front of the cottage! Our children (9 & 6) spent hours combing the beach for their own treasures. For those of you with allergies - NO WORRIES!! I have severe pet allergies and was a little concerned that they allow pets. But, I had NO issues and wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. Thank you Julie for opening up your cottage to our family - it is a true treasure!

Just a note to tell you how much we enjoyed our week in Maine. The cottage was simply delightful and so well equipped. We also enjoyed perfect weather--if you had anything to do with that, thanks!

We arrived at the cottage at 5:00 yesterday. I have to say this is INCREDIBLE!!! It far exceeds our expectations - the pictures on the rental site don't do it justice. I got all emotional because this was exactly the peace & tranquility we were hoping for. I love being on the ocean & this is the perfect place. The smell of the salty air, the seagulls cawing, the waves gently laping on the shore, the sound of the foghorn & lobster boats in the distance, and the stars! The stars last night were amazing! I miss that being so close to city. We both feel an overwhelming sense of peace.
