I found this place after searching and searching. I sure am glad I found it. My girlfriend, her sister and fiancee and I all stayed here on a perfect weekend. We had clear weather to snow to snowy and partly cloudy. We saw remnant snow be recovered with a full blanket , all while adventuring the surrounding areas to Linville, Wolf Laurel, and Spruce Pine. It was all areas I was not familiar with except for Linville. Burnsville has everything you need to fully enjoy your stay at the cabin. You will need many things to cook on the grill while taking in the view and hanging on the porch. You will need plenty to drink while relaxing in the hot tube or playing in the gameroom downstairs. It is such a great cabin if you are looking for different and exciting places to explore, yet close enough to many of the major attractions. I do recomend 4 wheel trucks or all wheel drive cars. I think most any vans or larger cars could make it up the final accent, but maybe not a little sports car or something. Anyhow, figure out how to get there because it is fun!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing, families with young children, pet owners.
Owner response: Despite the weather challenges I am glad that you all had a good time in the cabin and were able to enjoy getting out and visiting some of the attractions nearby.

We rented this cabin for the week of Thanksgiving. It is a beautiful cabin and was plenty big for our family. The process of renting the cabin and checking in was easy and the cabin was just as advertized. The furnishings were comfortable and in good condition and there is plenty of parking area which we have found to be an issue with other rentals in the past. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely keep this cabin in mind for future trips to the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing, families with young children, pet owners, age 55+.
Owner response: It was a pleasure to share our mountain home with you and your family and happy to hear that you enjoyed the cabin as much as we do. Customer service and comfort is what we strive for. Thank you for your nice comments and we look forward to your return visit. Happy Holidays!

The house was a spacious home and the kitchen was well equipped. It was nice having cable TV in every bedroom and all linens provided. The owners were also great to provide laundry detergent and fabric softener. The home owners allow pets and it was such a plus to have our dog with us.The hot tub was great, although I must warn you do not touch the control buttons! If you do the water temperature drops and the owners "information book" clearly states they will not come out and fix it if this happens! The game room was fun but a little to cramped to play pool really. There was a leak in the roof of the game room that made the downstairs have a terrible musty odor. I made the owners aware of it and I'm sure they will repair the leak. The front porch is lovely but every morning as I tried to enjoy a cup of coffee on the swing and intermitently throughout the day all you could hear were dogs barking !! I was so disappointed as I was hoping for quiet and peace. Apparently there is a animal shelter right down the road. The creek is not exactly a "short" walk from the house. You need to be in very good physical shape to walk to the creek and back. The mountain is steep! There is no real good place to enter the creek and play or fish either. Also a huge disappointment. There is not a great view from the cabin as you would think if you looked at the photos on the websites. These photos are old and the front of the house is very over grown blocking the view of the mountains and also making it impossible to wonder around in the woods. This is not a place for a stroll in the woods which I made clear to the owner that I was looking for a place that my children and I could stroll through the woods and enjoy the creek. The neighbor shot his gun almost every day so even if the woods were good for a stroll I wouldn't have ventured to do so. The sounds of gunfire and dogs is not what I was hoping for on my "relaxing" vacation. This would be an awesome place for some guys to stay who were on a get away maybe for nearby hunting or fishing. The gunfire and barking dogs probably would not bother them.Owner response: Thank you for mentioning the extra amenities that are provided to our guest. Reading your review was the first time I had heard about a leak. I immediately sent our maintenance personnel this morning to access the problem. Apparently there was a small pin hole in the main level bathtub that was causing a small leak. It has since been repaired. Thank you for bringing this to my attention. You mentioned that you were disappointed with the views and the pictures on the website were old. I researched your original VRBO inquiry dated Feb 9, 2012. The VRBO pictures were current. It was still winter and the trees are bare so the mountain views are more exposed. In all my emails I include the link to our personnel website so that everyone can view more pictures to include the different views depending on the season that you are renting; each picture has a description of each seasonal view. Your rental was in August the trees are full with leaves and the terrain is fully covered, the views are more like a Rainforest during this time frame. The VRBO website currently reflects those views and once the winter season commences the pictures will change to reflect accordingly. The Yancey County Animal Shelter is located across the valley on the other side of the river during their feeding periods you can hear the dogs barking echo through the mountain and can be heard from the deck but since we are a pet friendly cabin and a dog owner I never gave it much thought. The barking sounds are not heard when you are inside the cabin. Being from the city I was a bit uneasy when I first heard gunfire but after talking to the neighbors and visiting the cabin fairly often you learn that this is common practice. The local residents in the area are aware of their surrounding neighbors some of which have children; however I can understand why it might alarm someone who is not use to being in the mountains and hearing these sounds. I will include this information in the cabin's brochure so that other guest are aware. I appreciate your comments and welcome you and your family to a return visit in the near future.

With the exception of the 15-stair climb to the main level, and the very steep, sand and "loose-gravel" road comprising the last tenth of a mile up to the cabin, the four of us enjoyed the cabin very much. We made wonderful use of the hot tub after a long, 9-hour drive from Maryland. We enjoyed many relaxing hours of reading and taking life easy. And the game room downstairs was a hit with some of our younger nieces and nephews who came for a visit. On our second evening at the cabin we entertained a family group of about 18, and there was plenty of room for everyone to mingle and visit comfortably. TV reception was excellent, and the wireless internet, though rather slow, was reliable and truly a welcome feature of the cabin. Our one call to have a few light bulbs replaced and a plunger for the bathroom was responded to very quickly (a little less than an hour!). One word of caution to future visitors, please check the so-called "safety" mat in the master bathtub before stepping on it. Better yet, remove it completely! Soap scum on the underside caused me to slip and wrench my back severely. This happened on the very first use of the shower. I suffered with bad back pain for the remainder of my week in NC, and continue with problems to this day, two and a half weeks later. The cleaning service should be made aware of this because someone could conceivably be hurt even worse than I was. Overall, this is a very nice home, a good value for the money, and fun to share with friends and family for the week. Thanks! The TemplinsRecommended for: Families with young children.
Owner response: Happy to know that you and your family had a nice time in our cabin and that our management/maintenance personnel responded to your concerns with the light bulbs in a timely manner. We happened to be in the cabin during the time that we received your review. This is the first time that anyone has brought the bathtub safety mat to our attention. We used the master bathtub and did not encounter any issues with the safety mat but we have addressed your comment and replaced it. The cabin is located at about 2800 ft of elevation and the road is graded about every 3 to 4 months but with some of the heavy rains that we have been experiencing it can sometimes be a bit of a bumpy ride. Hope that you and your family will come back and visit us again.

The cabin is in a nice location, all the amenities were correct and in working order. The view was a little covered up due to it being spring and everything being green, but still nice and secluded for the most part. The animal shelter is located near by so if dogs barking in the distance bothers you, may want to look for another cabin, you can't hear it from inside the house (just to clarify), didn't bother us because we have dogs ourselves. The owner and property management were fantastic and were quick to respond to all my questions. It was an excellent cabin for the price and pet friendly, which is an absolute must for us. I would recommend for the location and privacy. Would definitely stay again!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing, pet owners.

We have stayed in many cabins so we really have a good base of camparison. This cabin is just not maintained. Fairly clean, but there were so many things that didn't work. The hot tub was the main thing! Old and would not heat up, not clean and smelled of mildew. The jets would turn on and off on its own, the control panel didn't work to adjust anything. All of the furniture was uncomfortable and completely worn out. The best bed was in the basement, so we didn't even sleep in the master! Even it was too soft and sunk in the middle. Most if the light bulbs were burnt out, so lighting was bad. The gas fireplace was out of propane. Fortunately we really didn't need that except the ambiance would have been nice. For the positives, It has a good view and pets are welcome!Owner response: I read your comments and took action to address them. I immediately sent my Property Mgr and maintenance personnel to the cabin to access all these areas that you mentioned. The furniture that was all worn out, the mattresses and fireplace out of propane. Once they arrived the first thing they checked was the Hot Tub, all the jets were working, and the temperature was reading properly. They lifted the cover and did not smell any Mildew. I called the Hot Tub’s manufacturer and asked them about the possibility of a mildew smell and they stated that if too much Bromine is added this could cause a chemical smell and recommended we use less Bromine. We are monitoring this to make sure that only 2 tablets are added after each cleaning. Instructions will be added in the Binder to let other renters know not to add more than 2 tablets. We visit the cabin at least 6 times a year to inspect and replace anything that we feel needs attention we were there as recently as January of this year, and found nothing to validate your comments. Our cabin’s décor is rustic antique and the furniture is fit for this type of décor. I do not advertise modern furnishings, they are not brand new but I think that your statement that “All the furniture was uncomfortable and completely worn out” is very unjust. The mattresses are soft and about 4 years old; they have not reached its life expectancy at this time. The bottom level room is more firm because it is a Pillow top. I would have really appreciated a simple phone call to myself or my Property Manager letting us know that the Fireplace would not start for you, the propane tank was just refilled in February. Some light bulbs were out, we keep spare boxes inside one of the drawers in the kitchen. I can guarantee you that some of your complaints would have been resolved had we known. There is a Binder in the living room with information about the cabin that might have been helpful to include my Property Managers and my personnel phone numbers. We have had several families and friends return to our cabin more than once, our guest comments speak for themselves. It is unfortunate that you were not pleased with our cabin. We maintain a cozy style of cabin and provide a lot of amenities to make your stay pleasant and fun at a very reasonable price. I would like to thank you for your nice comment about the cabin’s view and that we welcome pets. V/r, Alina Our Mountain Hideaway Owner

Our stay at "Our Mountain Hideaway" was perfect. In the beginning we had some issues with the propane/heat, but someone came out and the problem was fixed immediately. We ended up getting snowed in during our stay, but with the game room, hot tub and gorgeous views, we didn't have any problems being entertained. Even the neighbors were extremely nice and helpful. Everything was really clean and the decor was very homely and warm. The Christmas decorations was a really nice touch for us because we stayed there the week before Christmas and had previously decided that week was going to be the designated holiday week. All in all it was a wonderful vacation and I will definitely recommend this cabin to family and friends.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing, families with young children, pet owners.
Owner response: Our #1 goal is to maintain our cabin clean, comfortable and ready to response to any unforeseen issues that may arise for all of our guests. Thank you for the nice comments.

About the owner: We wanted a place to call our own in the Mountains and found this awesome town of Burnsville. It did not take long to decide on building our vacation home here. The views are awesome from the deck and we are centrally located to other small towns as well as Asheville and Tennessee so we can enjoy riding around finding new places, shopping, stopping at the Farmers Market, Flea Markets, Antique stores and much more and return to our comfortable cabin.
Why the Owner Chose Burnsville:
This area is Breathtaking, the local residents are very friendly. The town's main street is always entertaining with quaint stores, craft, supermarkets and local restaurants.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
We decorated the interior with local items so its cozy for everyone. The loft views are amazing and the inside is all Pine. It's our home away from our city life style. The Hot Tub was an added bonus especially after a long day of site-seeing or doing upgrades. At night you can see all the stars while getting a bubbling massage. Its perfect for our family to gather and share memories that will last forever.
