Our traditional Maine fisherman's cottage, once used as a one room local school, was completely renovated in 1998 and offers comfortable, contemporary accommodations on the Downeast Coast with 350 feet of rocky and sandy shore on a deep water bay.

Situated on a thin finger of land jutting out into the north Atlantic, 25 feet of windows in the Great Room offer spectacular views of Pigeon Hill Bay, Bois Bubert Island, and Petit Manan Lighthouse. Watch local lobstermen haul their daily catch in Pigeon Hill Bay and enjoy eagle sitings from the comfort of our sunroom.

Our non-smoking cottage accommodates six persons comfortably: two in a double bed in 1st floor master bedroom; two in twin beds in second floor bedroom with view of the bay; and two in a queen size pull-out couch in the Great Room. Fully-equipped kitchen includes a full size refrigerator/ice maker; full size range and oven; coffee maker; microwave; & toaster oven. Guests need to supply only their bed linens and towels. Ample supply of wool, cotton, & electric blankets and pillows is provided.

Our cottage is located in the very heart of coastal Downeast Maine on a dead-end blacktop road. The area is rural/residential with a quiet pace. Petit Manan National Wildlife Refuge, famous for birding, is one half mile away at the end of our road. Eagles, seals, whales, ospreys, cormorants, porpoises, puffins, herons, shorebirds, and songbirds abound in the bay and neighboring islands. Petit Manan NWLR contains 43 offshore islands and 3 coastal parcels, including the more than 1,000 acres at the end of our road.

325 species of birds have been identified in the Refuge, more individual species than have been sighted in any of the other 540 U.S. National Wildlife Refuge sites. Porcupines, fox, and deer, as well as occasional bear and moose, are also seen. Blueberry picking is permitted in season in the Refuge on 60 acres of blueberry barrens. Whale watching and puffin tours are available nearby. Petit Manan is a magical place that you will wish to visit year after year!

For your complete privacy and enjoyment while visiting the Maine shore, there is no telephone in our cottage. There is a telephone available nearby for emergencies. (Owners maintain a studio apartment, with separate private entrance, above an adjacent garage for occasional personal use during the season.)

Local services (grocery store, gas stations, etc.) are available nearby in Milbridge (7 miles). A local restaurant is two miles. A gourmet grocery and a wider range of shops and services is available in Ellsworth (30 miles). Bangor International Airport (65 minutes) provides connections to Boston and other cities on major carriers. Portland, Maine is approximately three hours by car.

We are 45 minutes north of Bar Harbor/Mount Desert Island/Acadia National Park and 70 minutes south of Canada. Nearby attractions include: Schoodic Point, Gouldsboro, Maine (part of Acadia National Park - 25 minutes); ferry to Nova Scotia, Bar Harbor, Maine and Acadia National Park (50 minutes); Campobello - FDR's summer home (60 minutes); Quoddy Head State Park - easternmost point and lighthouse in United States (65 minutes); Bartlett Estate Winery - world famous fruit wines (15 minutes); St. John's, New Brunswick, Canada (historic seaport, museums, dining) and Fredericton, New Brunswick (provincial capital and site of September's Harvest Jazz and Blues Festival) offer Canadian culture at the Canadian exchange rate(2 1/2 hours to either). Dozens of coastal villages, oceanfront municipal and state parks, and Maine lighthouses are within two hours of our cottage up and down the Maine coast.
