Red Creek Cottage is a three-bedroom, two-story cottage on the western shore of Seneca Lake, 13 miles north of Watkins Glen, 22 miles south of Geneva, and 13 miles east of Penn Yan (on neighboring Keuka Lake). We are located right on Seneca Lake, set back about 50 feet from the water, with lake frontage of 200 feet, a stream with a drawbridge, and a few acres of woods behind us.
With the lake on one side and the woods on the other, you will enjoy peace and quiet and the feeling of being surrounded by nature. Our cottage is the perfect retreat where you can truly relax with family and friends.
Sit back with a book or a glass of wine from one of the many wineries down the road in the sunny front yard or in the shade of our mature trees (a large willow, maples, firs, birches, a redbud and others). We have a large shale beach (shale is smooth flat rocks of various sizes), a lot of shallow water for wading and swimming; a fire pit, outdoor dining table with umbrella seating 6, large picnic table seating 8, many lounge chairs, gas grill, 12' wooden rowboat, 2 canoes (one can also be used as another rowboat), a badminton and volleyball set, ping pong table, swing, fishing gear, life jackets, and other recreational equipment.
If you are concerned about mosquitoes, rest assured that there are usually no mosquitoes because of the breeze and the purple martins.
This is a classic, pine-paneled cottage, recently renovated and fully winterized and insulated with electric heat, with a wood-burning fireplace. Enjoy the stunning view from the front lawn or from the living room or dining room table through the screened picture windows that line the entire front of the cottage. At night in bed listen to the waves lapping at the shore.
We provide basic groceries for your first night and morning if you are a weekly rental, spices and other staples in the full kitchen, microwave, coffee-maker with coffee, toaster, blender, pots and pans, service for 12, linens, blankets, pillows, towels and washcloths. You can enjoy a selection of cards, toys, games, and board games for all ages, a library of reading material, and a large library of family-friendly DVD's to play on a computer with an LCD screen. We provide baby equipment including a high chair, port-a-crib, and baby/toddler cups and bowls, and baby-proofing. There are a washer and dryer, a phone (local calls only), alarm clocks, a blow-dryer, shampoo, soap, razors and other toiletries, bottled water for drinking and cooking, t.p., paper towels, napkins, tissues, dishwashing liquid, sponges, firewood, starter sticks, organic household products, first aid kit, and two binders with local attractions, maps and directions.
We welcome well-behaved dogs with permission, but no cats, please (the owners are allergic). Other pets may be OK with permission.
In addition to a king-sized bed in the downstairs bedroom, there are six twin-sized beds in the upstairs bedrooms that can be converted to two king-size beds and two twins, and pull-out sofas and chairs. All of the beds, pillows, bedding, and living room furniture are new. The beds are firm. The cottage sleeps 8 plus 2 or 3 more on the pull-out couch and chairs, but because the living room and kitchen table each accommodate 6 most comfortably, we recommend no more than 8 people in the summer when you can sit outside and 6 in the off season.
The sturdy drop-down stairs to the second floor are fine for kids and limber adults but not for seniors or people with limited mobility.
While we welcome and have made special accommodations for families with young children, Red Creek Cottage is also very comfortable and attractive for people of any age - retired couples, singles, couples with no children, or small groups of friends. It is always clean, well-equipped, and inviting, perfect for your next vacation, weekend get-away, or rendezvous with friends.
