Property description

Courtyard Cottage and the Old Shop are located within a Grade 2 listed Georgian town house in the picturesque Cornish fishing village of Mevagissey. Dating back to 1830, this 3 storey property has recently been renovated to a high standard from top to bottom. Courtyard cottage is a 4 bedroom property sleeping eight over 3 floors with weekly rates from £420 to £1531. The Old Shop apartment (sleeps two / four) is a one bedroom ground floor apartment with a sofa bed in the lounge and weekly rates are from £249 to £636.

Situated 200 metres from the harbour and just 20 metres from the car park, these properties are ideal for families to explore the region with beaches, cliff-top walks and the Lost Gardens of Heligan only minutes away. Perfectly located in the village, they are just a short level walk to the restaurants and pubs in the narrow cobbled streets, but far out enough from the hustle and bustle to be quieter at night.

Courtyard Cottage benefits from a well equipped kitchen, modern bathrooms and double glazing whilst retaining many original character features including wooden floors, granite fireplace and low ceilings in some places as you would expect in a property of this age. As you come into the cottage, you enter the large kitchen / dining room. The kitchen is very well equipped with separate fridge and freezer, integrated dishwasher, large electric range cooker with 2 ovens and a washer dryer. Plenty of crockery, cutlery, glasses and cooking utensils. The large oak dining table will comfortably seat eight people.The kitchen and dining room on the ground floor have under-floor heating. Heated towel rails in the bathrooms and Rointe electric wall heaters throughout keep the cottage warm and cosy all year around. Split over 3 levels, you will find that you have plenty of space to relax and watch the world go by. There are 2 Xboxes (with games), DVD player (with over 100 DVD's) and iPod docking stations. Free Wi-fi plus 4 TV's (up to 46 inch) with Freeview and a selection of family games should provide enough entertainment to keep everyone happy in between trips out and about. The family bathroom with bath and separate shower enclosure is on the top floor whilst there is an additional shower and toilet on the middle floor, next to the 4th bedroom. The master bedroom has a king size bed and a two-seater setee and one of the other double bedrooms benefits from a zip and link bed, which can be configured as a super-kingsize or two 3ft single beds. All of the bedrooms have wardrobes and chests of drawers. Stair gates are fitted and there is also a travel cot and high-chair available at no extra cost. Safety restrictors are fitted to all of the sash windows. The rates listed for Courtyard Cottage are based on eight people staying. If there are 4 or less in your party, we may be able to offer a discount outside of school holidays (November to March). Please contact us with your desired date for further information.

The Old Shop has also been renovated to a high standard and has a well equipped kitchen with plenty of crockery, cutlery, glasses and cooking utensils. The dining area has a table to comfortably seat 4 people. There is a 40 inch TV with DVD player (with lots of DVDs) plus an Xbox (with games) in the lounge and a further TV in the bedroom. The sofa bed in the lounge folds down to sleeps 2 people and has a feather and down topper for added luxuary. The double bedroom has a kingsize bed, wardrobe and chests of drawers. The wetroom, with under-floor heating, is equipped with a power shower, toilet and basin. Other rooms have Rointe electric wall heaters and there is an air-conditioning unit in the lounge.

Electricity is included in the tariff. Bed linen and towels are also provided free of charge.

Sorry, no pets allowed and this has been our policy since the renovation works were completed. Synthetic fibre quilts as standard and anti-allergy pillows available upon request.

Courtyard Cottage: Parking permit for 1 vehicle for the length of your stay is also included. Additional permits are always freely available for £25 to £40 per week depending on the time of year.

The Old Shop: Parking permits are not included in the rate but are always freely available at a cost of £25 to £40 depending on the time of year. Please contact us for further details.

Short breaks may be available from November to March, excluding school holidays (please contact us for further details). Saturday is our normal changeover day.

Please note: as Christmas Day falls on a Friday this year, we have made our Christmas changeover day the Sunday after Christmas, so that guests can stay until the day after Boxing Day. The Christmas period will actually be an eight night stay (arrive from 2pm on Saturday 19th December) and guests will be able to stay up until 10am on Sunday 27th December. The New Year period will run from Sunday 27th (arrive from 2pm onwards) and finish on Sunday 3rd January 2016 (depart any time).

The South West of Cornwall has a wide variety of attractions to explore. With it's mild climate Cornwall is home to many gardens and National Trust properties. The Eden Project and the Tall Ships Harbour in Charlestown are both within 10 miles of Mevagissey and Truro with its magnificent cathedral and numerous shops is 20 miles away. Fowey, Gorran Haven and the Roseland Penninsula are also popular local destinations. Walk along rugged coastal paths or long sandy beaches, Cornwall has something for everyone, young or old.

Mevagissey has numerous restaurants and family friendly pubs, often hosting live music. Being small, Mevagissey has escaped the commercialisation of other Cornish seaside destinations and has a selection of interesting independent shops. Having made its wealth from pilchard fishing, Mevagissey once had 9 butchers shops. With its double harbour, Mevagissey is one of only a few working fishing villages left in Cornwall and you can take a pleasure cruise or try mackerel fishing whilst enjoying the glorious views of the Cornish coastline where you may catch a glimpse of seals, dolphins or basking sharks. There is a model railway and free museum within the village along with an activity centre which has a variety of activities. There is also a local scuba-diving club and the Pentewan cycle trail has lots of level stretches through the woods following the river. Towards the end of June Mevagissey celebrates Feast Week, a week of family fun, music, and floral dances through the streets. There is a small beach in the harbour and Portmellon and Pentewan beaches nearby. New Year's Eve is not to be missed as all the locals are in fancy dress so don't forget your outfit to see in the New Year.
