Keywords:  House, Cottage

Perched at the edge of a bluff overlooking some of the most spectacular coastline in Northern California, Cove House sits facing West-Southwest on a fenced acre and a half, with private access to the cove below. A true nature-lover's paradise: whale watching, kayaking, tidepooling, all at your doorstep. If you long for a place to recharge and get back to a relaxing and simple life, this is it!

This charming, two-bedroom, one-bath home is light and airy with white-washed wood beamed ceilings and comfortable cottage-style furnishings. The ocean-side bedroom provides direct ocean views and deck access. A second bedroom is paneled in knotty pine and has the look and feel of a vintage cabin.

The living room entertainment center is stocked with books, board games, and movies for your enjoyment. An adjacent sunken oceanfront sun room leads to the large deck with the hot tub that practically hovers over the cove. Both the living areas and deck offer panoramic white-water views of cliffs, a rocky cove, offshore islands, and the wide horizon of the Pacific. Our sea-side meadow offers its own jaw-dropping views - ideal for a leisurely game of croquet or horseshoes (both provided). Or curl up in an Adirondack chair with a good book, some wine and cheese, and the surf lapping in the cove below. Watch the sun set as hawks, pelicans, egrets, and an occasional crane sail by.

The Gualala stretch of Highway One is one of the most scenic in the country, and is the mid-way point of a drive Coastal Living magazine recently named the #1 coastal drive in North America. Gualala itself enjoys a "banana belt" microclimate, with sun and mild temperatures much of the year - along with the occasional whopping coastal storm to entertain and lend an extra coziness to winter guests enjoying a warm fire by the glass-front wood stove. The world-renowned Sea Ranch golf course is located just ten minutes south of Cove House and is open to the public, kayaks can be rented in town, there are several excellent restaurants in the area, and the lovingly-restored Point Arena Theater runs first-run movies and regularly hosts concerts.

Cove House is a wonderful place to celebrate that special birthday or anniversary, or just to relax and forget about the rest of the world for a few days. Kick off your shoes, prop up your feet, and stay awhile!

Oceanfront Cottage with Private Cove Access

Year Purchased: 2001

Why the Owner Chose Gualala

We both love the north coast, and when courting, took frequent road trips up the coast, where we found we particularly liked the Gualala area for the dramatic seascapes, great weather, and the less touristy ambiance.

The Unique Benefits at this House

We like to just close the gate at Cove House and withdraw from the world. We love to go tidepooling in the cove, check out the frequent art shows in the area, enjoy some wine and cheese out in the meadow looking out towards some offshore islands, catch the sunset from the hot tub and watch the stars come out. We maintain an excellent and broad library at Cove House too, so there's always a good book to read.

Owner's Map of Gualala

Patrick's a third-generation Berkeleyan, with a degree in journalism from UC Berkeley. Lisa was born in Ohio, lived in upstate New York, Virginia, Philadelphia, and Boston before landing in the Bay Area. Patrick is an IT manager at UC Berkeley, scuba dives, a die-hard Giants fan, and a political junkie. Lisa is the HR Manager for the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, also a diver, as well as a painter and a lover of good fiction. We have four kids, ages 18 - 27.

Just wanting to relax in the hot tub.

Guest: Color (Spirit Lake, Idaho)
Date of Stay: 02/03/12 Review Submitted: 02/07/12

Very nice stay. I was lucky with the weather. Once I found where they store the extra wood for the fire, I was able to build that up and that was nice. The hot tub was great, even sat out one morning right before the dawn and star gazed. One treat I found, that I wasn't aware of, is there is a great path to the south of the house that goes down into the cove. That was beautiful and nice. Bit of a climb, I needed a walking stick, but not far to walk at all. One thing too, is take your hair dryer and I could have used a throw to cover up with. So, I'd say I had nothing to complain about.

Next year, two weeks!

Guest: Bob & Kathy (-)
Date of Stay: 09/06/08 Review Submitted: 02/27/10

We had such a great time at The Cove House, last week. The location looking over the cove and ocean is beautiful, plus the house is very comfortable also!! Please keep our $300.00 Deposit/Security money, don't send it back, but apply it to next years rental: 2 weeks this time, for our wedding anniversary again. We had such a relaxed week reading our favorite books sitting on the deck, day & evening, and never turned the TV on once.

The house was wonderful, more than we had hoped for. And to wake in the morning, walk out your bedroom door to the panoramic view, took my breath away each time.

Establishing a ritual

Guest: Lost name (-)
Date of Stay: 08/23/09 Review Submitted: 02/27/10

We have already confirmed that watching the sunset from the hot tub with our glasses of wine and incomparable view will be a ritual for every day of our week-long stay. The house, location, and view are even more amazing than we hoped it would be from the internet site where we first found this place.

Viewing Heaven

Guest: Rob & Karen (-)
Date of Stay: 07/13/09 Review Submitted: 02/27/10

If there is a place from which to view heaven from earth, it is from the Adirondack chairs overlooking the cove. We spent many hours there with a few glasses of wine and couldn't leave.

A new favorite!!!

Guest: Marcia (-)
Date of Stay: 08/08/08 Review Submitted: 02/27/10

Just wanted to let you know that the Cove House is beautiful!!! We thoroughly enjoyed the view, the hot tub, the deck, everything!! I will definitely recommend it to my friends and family and plan on going again sometime in the future. I'm keeping you in my "Favorites", so you will be easy to find when the time comes. The accomodations were wonderful, and you were right...you do have a great selection of cooking tools and kitchen accessories. We especially enjoyed having the espresso machine. We were able to get up each morning and make mochas and sit out on the deck and enjoy the view. AHHH!!! WHAT A LIFE!! Thanks so much for everything!!

"Pictures don't do it justice"

Guest: John (-)
Date of Stay: 02/20/07 Review Submitted: 02/27/10

Just a quick note to say that our stay at your place was lovely! Pictures don't do it justice. Everything was in order when we arrived, the management company left the key for us and was very pleasant when we dropped it back off. Thanks for making such a magical place available to others!
