We enjoyed our two weeks stay at this home. It had all we needed, a great Lanai with wonderful views and very quiet. We don't like the tourist throngs and therefor this place offered a peaceful alternative to Kailua-Kona. The owner also was very accomodating to let us hang around a few more hours due to our midnight flight back home. We would rent this place again if staying on the Big Island.

Unbelievable! Can’t say enough good things… It’s been over a month since returning and I still feel the side affects of my stay in Marie’s home. GREAT location, GREAT view, GREAT accommodations. Marie is the perfect host! Recommendations, available, not intrusive. The home is complete with all the needs and comforts required… I even twisted my ankle on a lava hike and came back to the home to find a first aid kit with ankle wrap available… don’t worry I replaced it.. and that is exactly how Marie’s home makes you feel… like home… You want to leave it the way you found it thinking it is your own. Thank you for a WONDERFUL experience and break from reality! Mary & Kelly March 3rd - 10th vacationers

Owner response: Mahalo Ladies! You were a pleasure to have in this home in paradise. You took full advantage of your time here on the island traveling many miles to see many of the sites on this diverse island. I am so happy you found this home a respite that has stayed with you after your return to Seattle Aloha, Marie

Lovely unit with all of necessary ingredients for self-maintenance. Great lanai for gathering, T.V. watching, games and viewing the ocean. Gracious hostess most helpful. For folks who want to get away from the crowds and the glitter.

Quite simply, the lanai is huge and has an incredible view. Sitting out there in the morning and having coffee while staring at the Pacific Ocean was the ultimate way to unwind. Sunsets were of course also quite beautiful. Our teenage son loved relaxing in the hammock. The house has everything we needed. We made use of the washer/dryer which allowed us to pack light. The grill on the lanai was great for cooking and eating out on beautiful evenings. Surprise, our son figured out the nice coffee table is actually a foosball table too! Farm/Fruit market just up the road is a great place to stop for some fresh and unique fruit (like Lilikoi) and smoothies. Holualoa is a cool little town to visit. Visited the Holualoa organic coffee farm and Holualoa Cafe for lunch. Wonderful! Great snorkelling at Kahalu'u if you want to see fish and sea turtles up close in shallow water. For deeper water with incredible coral and plenty of fish, snorkel "two step" just north of the Pu’uhonau o Honaunau National Historical Park. The Historical Park is also definitely worth a visit. For dinner, the view from the outdoor seating at Kona Inn is beautiful. We also enjoyed the Kona Brewpub. All within an easy (and scenic) drive from Marie's place yet far enough to avoid the hustle and bustle of Kailua-Kona. A great trip!

We have spent a wonderful week at Kona Paradise. The apartment is very nicely furnished and very comfortable for 3-4 people. The lanai is absolutely superb! You can spend a whole day there (and sleep on the hammock too). Views are spectacular! When renting this place once has to realize that it takes about 40 mins to downtown Kailua-Kona. Not a problem for occasional trips, but you have to be organized. The advantage is truly paradise-like setting.

Our family enjoyed our stay in this vacation home. The picture of the huge lanai with a spectacular view sold us on this home and we weren’t disappointed. The rooms were clean and the beds comfortable. We ate outside every day to enjoy the view and the weather. Initially I was concerned at not having air conditioning during our summer visit, but we found we didn’t need it and some evenings even felt a bit cool due to the evening clouds or rain. Marie was helpful and answered our many pre-visit emails promptly. She was also available by phone when I tried to reach her after our arrival. Many of the old snorkel spots from our Maui trip 10+ years ago were either closed this year or just not so good anymore. So, we were delighted to discover the snorkeling around the Captain Cook monument was spectacular and only a short drive from the house. You can bring kayaks or rent them on the spot, but be sure to go across the bay to the monument. There are lots of different kinds of fish and the water is deep blue instead of the typical greenish color. Thanks to Marie for renting this home. We sure preferred it to a condo or hotel for our family of four.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Kona Paradise home. Relaxing on the gorgeous lanai and taking in the view, we happily felt far away from traffic and tourists and noise -- yet, the location was close enough to nearby sights and attractions that we did not feel isolated. We spent many mornings on the lanai watching and listening to the birds and geckos in the nearby trees, and one morning, after faithfully scanning the water with binoculars for some time, we even spotted whales in the bay below. The living space is comfortable and the kitchen is perfect for cooking and trying out the Hawaiian and Asian foods you can find at the local supermarket. The cupboard and refrigerator are stocked with many spices and condiments. We truly felt as though we were vacationing in paradise, and loved every minute of our stay.

Laying on the comfortable lanai furniture soothed everyday by gentle breezes while gazing on the Pacific Ocean 500 feet below and enhanced by views of Kealakekua Bay, Hualalai volcano and, on clear days, Maui, made this the most memorable vacation we have ever had. When we did stir, it was a quick 15 minute drive up Highway 11 to a couple of Mama-San (convenience) stores or to the Bong Brothers for delicious organic fruit, vegetables and Kona Coffee. The well stocked local supermarket, Choice Mart at Kealakekua Ranch Center, is a 20 minute drive north on Hwy 11. Sightseeing / Hiking expeditions to the Polulu Valley and the Volcanoes National Park are less than a 2 hour drive. The drive from Keahole Kona Airport is about an hour and the drive to and from Kailua Kona is about 45 minutes (except when school turns out at around 2.30pm when it can take up to an hour). This wonderfully quiet apartment, located in Kona Paradise, is spotlessly clean with two comfortable bedrooms, a bathroom with a rainwater tub and shower, and a large, fully equipped kitchen and living area. The lanai is huge with 2 sofas, a Papa-San chair and a hammock. We had most enjoyable breakfasts on the lanai watching the local goat family pick their way down the lava to grazing at a lower elevation and listening the very diverse and vocal bird population welcome in the new day. The more tasty amongst you will need to spritz yourself with Cutter mosquito repellant as they can be enthusiastic during periods of light winds. There is a determined population of black ants that are best deterred by food cleanliness, some ant bait traps and the occasional tactical nuclear weapon. The undertaker wind that blows downslope from about 7 at night is refreshingly cool to the point of requiring 3 blankets on some nights For dining out we would recommend Cafe Ke'ei in Kainaliu for a more formal but delicious dining experience, Quinn's Almost by the Sea as a great and very affordable hangout place in Kailua Kona, and the Kiawe Kitchen in Volcano Village to sustain you on trips to the Volcanoes NP. Marie is an excellent host, plying us with fresh tangerines off her backyard tree and guiding us through the eccentricities of TimeWarner Internet connectivity.

My mom, sister, and I had a very pleasant time staying in this quiet, well kept apartment. Marie, our host, has equipped the kitchen with everything you need to cook up some of the local produce or grill on the lanai. This spacious and comfortable lanai is great for relaxing, reading, and sleeping - a wonderful place to wake up in the morning with a lovely outlook over the ocean. The road to the beach is very steep, so we found that we preferred driving to some of the other nearby beaches : Ho'okena Beach and the wonderful Honaunau House of Refuge are within easy reach. Marie has stocked everything you need for the beach : chairs, mats, and snorkeling gear. We didn't get a chance to use the kayaks. Next time ! A very good deal for your money and I would recommend it to all.
